The forum is full of people that had a transplant while not on meds. What you need to do is manage your expectations accordingly. The growth of the implants won't be affected (please correct me if I am wrong, doctors) but you will in all likelyhood lose the rest in due time. Which will make the hair situation less and less satisfying down the line.
Worst case you'll have to fill up the entire NW6 pattern with 8k grafts (if you are lucky to have that many) in order to look decent. What's most important in your situation, IMO, is to start off with a conservative hairline. Not go too low.
