  1. You may/may not be right about the effects of the concealers, like I said, I would not personally be putting anything on the grafts that would potentially inhibit or harm the growth - natural or synthetic. I know its nerve wracking, but what you've been doing with concealers and masking agents is just as time consuming and can get stressful on a daily basis. I did it with a hair sprays and gels trying to cover my receding/balding scalp for years!!! Remember, most docts will want you to SHAVE your entire recipient area. So you'll be entirely bald in the front anyway. And if you go FUE, like I did, my whole head was shaved! So if I could give you any advice, it would be this: if you want to correct your current hair loss, you're going to have to bite the bullet and be in an "ugly duckling" stage for a few months. You have to get over what other people will think or see on your head. I know that sounds harsh - but its very true. It was a relief for me to have a shaved head and keep everything short for those initial months. I threw away the hair sprays and gels that I was so "addicted" to - and just waited for the transformation to take place. Sure, I got a few glances or stares at my head from friends and family, but after that everyone gets over it, we all have more imiportant things to do and worry about in all our lives. Your hair is the least of anyone else's real world problems - believe me..... that's how I dealt with it.
  2. I would personally not put any type of concealers or masking agents on new grafts, even after 2 months if you want them to come in strong and healthy. Its just my opinion, but from everything I've read, anything harsh on the grafts should be avoided. I took a month off work after my HT, and then worked from home another month, but you will definitely not see any sort of growth, even early growth, until your 3rd to 4th month after a transplant. Some people are early growers and some people grow slower, but the first 2-3 months after a HT seem to be the longest time - like it will never pass. I got used to wearing my hat alot, fortunately it was over the winter months. The cliche is true - no pain no gain... The reward comes after 6 months when you usually start seeing some pretty significant growth from your HT and all the stuff you went through to get there seems worth it .. best of luck on your own journey
  3. I flew a few days after my procedure - and I was "asked" to take my hat off when I went through airport security. I did not have the quick wit of Dr. Feller to say that I just had scalp surgery! gotta remember that one ... What I also encountered was that they took my saline spray bottle which had less than 10oz of saline water - but because the bottle was not clearly marked for size, they didn't allow me to take it through security. Luckily my flight was not that long, but I did go into the plane's bathroom and soaked some napkins and used them to squeeze some water on my grafts - a little hint from the doctor's office! Other than those few things, travel was alot less stressful and fearful than I had imagined. Nobody really cares .. and that's the honest truth ...
  4. good growth and density, unfortunately I too am not a fan of Dr. Diep's zig zag hairline designs. While I know he does it to make it look natural, I think it is too asymetrical, exactly the same pattern across the entire hairline - which is not what's found in nature - Rahal or H&W hairlines always seem to hit the mark in terms of their naturalness - this is not to diminish the work you had done, just some constructive criticism, best wishes
  5. I didn't know this thread was a competition between Feller & Batti ... Dr. Feller is undoubtedly one of the top HT surgeons in the US at this time, so why don't we all stop with the subjective comments, cheap shots, attempts to ridicule etc. I was taught that if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all ...
  6. See my profile pics .. did the entire frontal zone, going back to address behind that this time
  7. the preops are necessary to make any sort of meaningful comparison, what sort of coverage were you advised would be implanted to your frontal zone (? grafts/cm2)? The front looks thin and I'm assuming the rear only looks denser because of toppik??
  8. every reputable HT doc or clinic performs both procedures, including H&W which was previously FUT only .. that alone should tell you something about how consumers and their demand of a more refined, less invasive surgical technique is driving change in the industry
  9. this whole thread is a back & forth nightmare for the average prospective HT patient looking for objective advice - completely contrary to what this forum is supposed to provide ...
  10. donor area looks great after 7 days! best of luck with your growth. Who would have thought H&W doing FUE!!!
  11. Dr. Feller, but if a patient is both informed and willing to sacrifice some yield (albeit slight comparable to many FUT surgeries in the hands of top FUE docs), then shouldn't it always be the patient's decision which method of surgery he wants to undergo and pay for? I think that's what's missing in your detailed, technical explanations of which is better, etc. Some patients, like myself, understand that maybe FUT provides the best yield, but that's not my primary objective ....
  12. I think with your hair loss pattern you need to set realistic goals and expectations. You won't ever achieve a hairline that you had in your 20's. In my opinion, people put too much emphasis on full coverage of the crown. The most important part of any HT procedure for someone with a high NW pattern is the frontal zone - framing the face with a conservative hairline - and not necessarily very dense coverage either. Then, depending on your donor area - everything you can fill in behind that frontal zone is gravy and you'll still have a successful result. Just my opinion.
  13. A little overly-aggressive with the hairline placement and temporal points in my opinion, its obvious this young man is going to have more hair loss in the future. I, personally, would have went more conservative, but that's not to diminish the result which is very aesthetically pleasing. Congrats.
  14. 2nd FUE procedure scheduled with Dr. Rahal in September of 2015. My personal choice at my age, stage of hair loss and what I want to achieve. Not saying one procedure is better than another. They both have their pros and cons.
  15. best of luck - choosing a top flight surgeon (which you've done) - is 90% of the battle, the rest will take care of itself and how well you follow post-op instructions, etc.
  16. I did my first procedure in Sept 2014 with Dr. Rahal, and will be going back almost exactly a year later, this September to do exactly what you guys were talking about in this thread - go beyond the frontal zone and as much into the crown as possible - as well as a "touch up" of my hairline. I didn't blink an eye after I had a follow up consult with Dr. Rahal and he recommended it. I too am very happy with my result, but maybe we start to get some hair greed?
  17. My other observation on this topic is that some clinics are not properly set up to do large or even mega-session FUE procedures. FUE, as a surgical technique, is way more time consuming and some doctors or clinics are just not set up to these types of procedures full scale on patients requiring of 2k grafts or more in one sitting. Its a cost prohibitive process for them and FUT is quite simply the quicker harvesting technique. That's not to say I discount the other benefits of FUT that Dr. Feller so adamently proclaims, I'm just suggesting the choice and option of procedures should be left up to patients.
  18. I respect Dr. Feller, but where I don't agree with him is that a prospective patient (customer) should have no say or choice in the type of HT procedure he should undergo .. Once both pros/cons of both procedures are explained to a patient - I believe it should be FULLY their choice to decide whether they want to go FUT or FUE ... I consulted with Dr. Feller for my HT procedure, but eventually went with Rahal because he agreed to do FUE whereas Dr. Feller did not want to do FUE on me ... I'm happy with my choice - and that's all that should really matter.
  19. you're not bald or even really receding in the frontal zone, don't know if you have any loss in your crown area - what's your overall goal? besides just adding density? to wear your hair longer? just as short as it is now? there may be other options for you besides a HT
