  1. Very true. I have had quite a few instances where I've put too much on and had to shake it all out in the bathtub. Now, before I start applying it, I say to myself "less is more, less is more.." I saw a guy on TV who always advises consumers how to save money. To cut a long story short he doesn't have much on top but very obviously uses concealers...in the wrong colour! He sold his website for about $100m not long ago so I guess he could afford a HT if he wanted.
  2. Hello mate, I think you may be underestimating the number of grafts needed. You would more likely require 2000+ to fill the temples even slightly. Basically, look at the area you would like to fill in, count the approximate sq cm and multiply by 40. That's the probably number of grafts. Some surgeons will turn you away if you're not on propecia and in your 20s. Why won't you consider it? Your hair still looks pretty good. Mine was like yours in the early 2000s and now, aged 34, I have nothing in the front third! In your shoes I would try propecia and re-evaluate after a year. If you still don't want to try it then wait until you are at least 35.
  3. Hope you can get in front of that green-screen in July/August!
  4. Good luck. I like his hairlines. very nice indeed
  5. Hello mate, Your hair isn't in bad shape compared to many people on here, me included! You have a natural whorl pattern in your crown which always tends to make that area thin compared to the rest of a persons hair. You also have dark hair and pale skin which is the worst combo for looking thin on top. Head & Shoulders sucked for me too. It actually gave me dandruff rather than the reverse! If it means spending a few hundred dollars on travel I would still go and visit a recommended doctor from this site. You certainly don't need a HT but they can do an honest evaluation and let you know if they think you are thinning. Then you may consider taking propecia and/or rogaine. Just tell them everything you told us in your post. Good luck
  6. As long as you have realistic expectations based on your own hair characteristics and degree of loss I'm sure you would get a 1st class result from H&W. More often than not it seems to be unrealistic expectations that cause complaints. You can have the most technically great transplant in the world but if you think it will achieve something it wont you will never be happy. I've never seen a H&W result not grow out in my time (which is about 2 years researching) I have seen other top docs with results slightly deficient in some areas but the beauty is that they are all willing to put things right.
  7. Looks great on your profile. I see you had a HT at 19!! You don't have to name him but is the doctor still in business?
  8. The amount of grafts lost by either method is irrelevant in my opinion. The only number that matters is the number of useable grafts that can be taken from the head without resulting in an unnaceptable donor appearance. Forgive me if I'm wrong but the average numbers are something like: FUT - 7500 grafts. FUE - 6000 grafts. (excluding body hair) Overharvest FUE and you get a moth eaten appearance, take too many FUT strips and you risk a big scar.

  10. Glad to hear all's well. The front's so important I hope you will be pleasantly surprised when it grows out. Your really need a barrier of hair in that area. You could try getting some 'Mane' hair concealer for the scar. It sprays on from an aerosol and can be combed through.
  11. Nowhere in Dr Charles statement does he say that FUE is bad for large procedures. You are getting paranoid.
  12. Why have you felt the need to take a pop at Dr Charles? I can think of one obvious small procedure where FUE is great: eyebrow reconstruction.
  13. Not bad considering this was with the old "outdated" FUT method. I wonder if he will be asking for his money back for those 'hundreds' of grafts transected during strip removal!
  14. I got sides and quit, then restarted. I figure something is better than nothing and 0.5mg causes no problems. I'll be switching to 0.5mg twice a week soon, then 3 x per week etc...
  15. If i had a dollar for every time I read in a post: "I was on fin and gave it up after X years...Big mistake!", I'd have enough to pay for my HT! With no sides you really must stick with it as it's far more effective than minoxidil at retaining hair.
  16. Some nice results presented there. It is good that he has posted a range of NW numbers and not just the NW2s with dense packing at the front!
  17. If I was in Atlanta I'd go see Dr Edmond Griffin: Edmond I. Griffin, MD Hair Transplant Surgeon in Atlanta, Georgia
  18. Kujii, Sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. What I would say is that it can take up to 18 months to see the final result. I hope you are willing to contact Bill and ask T&D to respond on this forum, especially to the comment that 'all the grafts grew apart from 25-40'. At the moment your pictures are just too fuzzy and we really need to see the immediate post op photos.
  19. Hello mate, Spex is on here from time to time, and also on other forums as you have probably seen. It sounds like you have minimal loss if you're being quoted less than 2000 grafts. Without trying propecia and getting a HT at 26 would be like playing russian roulette with your hair. If you're in good health you owe it to yourself to go to your GP and discuss trying Propecia. (Boots offer a Hair Retention service which is expensive but a good way of getting started under medical supervision). I had the same fears as you. I did get some side effects but returned to normal after stopping the drug. There are some people who will steer you away from it but as spex often says: "it's the secret to his success". Only after 12 months of successful Propecia use would any ethical surgeon consider you for a small session.
  20. I was going to suggest looking at the Knudsen Clinic too. The Dr has been around for a long time and is certified by the ABHRS. It goes without saying that you will need to carry out due dilligence. Ask to meet former patients, ask lots of questions etc. I see you only have crown loss. Generally you should not transplant into this unless you are on propecia and experienced success in maintaing your hair. Best option for now would be to try propecia and regaine in combination. You may find your hair regrows and no HT is necessary.
  21. There is no yield problem here. The patient has 1.8 low caliber hairs per follicular unit, transplanted at about 22 per square cm. Therefore you would expect a density of about 40 hairs / sq cm. That is absolutely nothing when you consider a person without hairloss (and thick caliber hair, higher 2s and 3s) could have, for example, 2.8 hairs per follicular unit at a density of 90 per sq cm (252 hairs / sq cm). Factoring in for the poor hair caliber (lets say hair strands are 50% thinner). The patient would have: 0.5 x (40/252) x 100% = 8% the density of thick hair. If you think that this would look dense then I urge you to sketch out a 10cm by 10cm grid and mark a dot in 8 random squares. I think you will agree this will never be a dense result!
  22. That would be Dr Cam Simmons of the Seager Medical Group. He is highly recommended and used to be part of this site until a local law stopped doctors taking part in online forums. It's good that you are willing to wait until next year. Plenty of time to research.
  23. Hard to tell without photos. You are a good candidate if you have good quality donor hair, reasonable expectations, over 35, and are taking hair loss medications. A lot of Drs do not require you to shave down. You would have to for FUE extraction, but even then it can be possible on smaller sessions to mask this area with longer hair. Although you didn't get any regrowth with finasteride it is beneficial to keep using it to prevent further loss (It's generally better for maintaining hair rather than regrowing it). If you did this I don't see why a dr wouldn't agree to adding some hairs to the crown. You should get it done conservatively so that if hairloss progresses you wont be left with a noticeable 'island' in the middle of your crown. I've heard of platelet rich plasma (PRP) being injected into the scalp to induce hair regrowth. However, you have to come back a year later for another session. I can't vouch for how effective it is as I've never looked into it. In order to hide your crown you may want to either 1)Grow your hair to cover it, 2)take time off work, or 3)Take time off work and use concealers to hide redness (subject to drs ok).
