My latest self-transplant count: 33 FU's

Took a shower, got a cold beer out of the fridge, put on my favorite music, and transplanted 3 more FU's today. Donor area: stomach. All three were double-hair units, so they are going deeper into the hairline. Once I thicken the back I'll start placing single units at the front.

Pre Op/ Surgery

So, I've been looking forward to the day coming for a while. Though I'm doing the surgery because it was my own idea and its what I want, when I'm at places like a wedding and hear comments from buddies saying, "dude your gonna be a domer in another year or 2!" It certainly makes me glad that I'm getting this done now. My morning of surgery started with a 5:30 AM run since I won't be able to workout hard for about another week-10 days. I reported at 7:45 and they took me back to change

Post Op Day 1

I woke up feeling good. I did take on percocet and 1 valium before bed. I was hesitent as I don't usually take pain medications, but I figured it would help me fall asleep quickeer and allow me to sleep on my back with my hed slightly elevated as requested (I'm usually a side sleeper). There was a bit of blood here and there which was to be expected and is why they give you a special pillow case to use for a few days. I'm debating on taking some tylenol for some of the tightness I'm f

13.5 months on, consultation with Transmed

So, just over a year on from my HT, I returned to Transmed for a follow up consultation. As before, the patient experience was excellent; my flights and accommodation paid for, a car to and from the airport, and to and from the hotel and Transmed, and excellent service when I was in the clinic. However, when I had the consultation with Dr Kulahci, her view - somewhat to my surprise - was that I'd had a good result. I had my photos taken, but there was apparently a problem downloading them, s

2 months down!

It's been a while since I've been on here. Been busy, busy with work so here's my update. I'm just about to complete my 2nd month of being on Propecia. I'm definately getting some growth back in the form of some small thin baby tufts around the receding parts of my temples. It's nothing I can style obviously and under a light you can hardly see it but it's nice to know that soemthing is happening. One thing I have noticed about Propecia is that Chemists seem to be vert poorly stocked. I vis

How Important Are Surgical Technicians?

I attended an inter office meeting today with the surgical technicians. They were discussing trimming techniques, placements and the different receptor site instruments. It was quite enlightening. We covered the efficiency of strip removal, sequential donor closure and graft placement. Some of the techs specialize in hairline placement while others do the top and crown. The team is very well coordinated but we are always strategizing to increae efficiency. To my colleagues out there: what do y

6 Months on after great results under Dr Meshkin

This review is a little late as I’ve been meaning to write about the great experience I had with Dr Meshkin back in January 2011. I wanted to wait until the 6 month period after my Hair transplant to give an honest reflection and to show some real results. Before I do this I should probably explain how I came to have the HT. Back two years ago, I started to notice my hair getting thinner. At first it was just the odd glimpse of more of my scalp than I had seen before, when I looked in the m

Day 367, 12 months on

So this is the final outcome. And it is a big disappointment. Not just the poor hair density. And the cost. But also the time investment I put into this – four months as a social leper avoiding my friends, changing my work behaviour. And perhaps above all else, the knowledge that those 2,900 grafts are gone for good – and that my chances of getting a decent coverage with my remaining donor hairs are greatly reduced now. So how bad has it been? I reckon I'm in a similar place to whe

MarkyGras's Blog

Started balding when I was 17. Was a NW IV with major diffuse thinning, and not much of a hairline. Was on propecia for a year (and still am) and rogaine. I've quit the rogain afer 14 months, since my scalp wasn't really responding. I had a FUT of 5008 grafts by Dr. Arocha of Houston on May 20, 2011, just after having turned 30.

11 Weeks

Well its 11 weeks ish! and everything settled down. I think hair looking better but cant be new growth and must be shockloss regrowing. Also I have a good few grey/white hairs growing quickly and never had any before. Not sure if Minoxidil is affecting the colour? Anyway I am getting organised and found a photo of top view taken 5 days after HT. The grafts,as you will see, were focused on density mid to front. I am feeling tingling in my scalp now and still taking my vitamins etc. Had my

A not so bitter pill!

Well yesterday I took my first Propecia pill. I had visited the local doctors on Friday to see about getting a prescription and low and behold i got one. I must say, it is amazing the stress and embarrasment I felt sitting in that waiting room, especially as it was really busy and the receptionist stated that it was 'choc-a-bloc' today. I began to doubt that it was a good idea coming here, because I wasn't sick or in dire need of anything and I felt sure that the doctor would give me 'the look'

Day 334 - 11 months on

Well, 11 months since my HT, I think I can say for certain that I'm not going to get the result I hoped for. I had begun to worry when my regrowth seemed to stall at the 6-7 months phase. Sometimes, the hair looked a little thinner if anything. Given my long-term pattern of hair loss, I don't think I've suddenly lot a load of native hair. So I wonder if some of the transplants have died. Is that possible? Throughout this post HT period I have been holding back on any kind of verdict, in the

2 months today

Well its 2 months today since my HT and everything settling down. Scar healing well and my scalp is far less red and back to normal. Not much on the growth front but another month or two is what everyone says is starting growth period. This will be a long month waiting and watch but luckily I am very busy so not too much time to think about it. Im still using Minox, MSM, Vit B compound and Omega Oils so supplements are good. Hopefully I will have more to report next blog at 3 month mark. I hav

Coin inserted, beginning Level 1

Well this is my first blog and first real day of being a part of this network of wonderful people. I've been thinking and dreaming about doing something with my hairline for years now and all of a sudden the wheels seem to be moving. My girlfriend has been extremely supportive of my decision to get a hair transplant, although she keeps telling me I don't need one hehe but she understands it's not what I need, it's about lifting a constant thought from my mind that would be put to better use if

Best Doctors in India

I just joined this forum. I lost lot of hair in the past 10 years. I'm in mid 40s and now ready for a hair tranplantation surgery. I live in North America and plan to travel to India to get the surgery done this summer. I reviewed this site and few doctors from India have been discussed. Can you please suggest top 2 doctros who can be reliable, effective and experienced? In internet, I see so many doctors from New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad. I'm sure these doctors are trying to compete e
