Day 27 - first haircut

Four weeks after surgery. Another milestone of sorts: the first haircut. My local Kosovan barber in South London was very friendly, curious, and helpful. He used a grade four clipper to trim away most of the hair, using scissors for the more delicate areas. The result is a relatively tidy-looking haircut, the exception being the donor scar, which is clearly visible. My barber advised that for future cuts, clever use of layers could easily hide the scar without the hair needing to be too long.

7.5 Months update

Updated pics. This work is from 2 procedures. First 1500 in the frontal 1/3 by Dr Keene in Jan 2009, and another 2000 grafts in same region (that included lowering my hairline) by Dr Panine in Nov 2009. I've noticed over the past several months more density over the past 2 procedures, but to see these pictures is wild. My crown had a thin spot and this last procedure touched it up, giving some coverage, but it's thin to the touch --- still thinking about a final procedure to beef the crown

Booked for surgery

After considering a number of doctors, I decided to go for Dr. Ron Shapiro. The reason I chose him was that his hairline seemed very natural and it seemed that he could make distinctive change even with fewer number of graft compared to other doctors. One thing is that I first looked at hairloss blogs of his patients but there were not so many blogs of his patients, so at first I thought he was not that famous. But I found a bunch of result pictures on the forum from whom didn't make their hai

Just shy of 2 months!

Ok I am just shy of posting this at the 2 month mark, I still have till the 25th June....and I realise now that I posted the 1 1/2 months early...but hey I had results!! Haha! These last weeks have slowed in progression and the only reason I can think of is I stopped taking the ARG Matrix because I ran out of supply and don't get paid till the end of the month...but managed to get some ordered by borrowing some cash and will hopefully see more results! So the hairline is defiently filling in

Day 13

Two days ago I had the staples removed by a nurse at my local doctor's surgery. All 44 of them (see photo). It was 'her first time', but she was very good about it, and said the way the donor area had been joined together was “beautiful”. A few of the staples smarted a little, and were a bit 'sticky' coming out. So they definitely shouldn't be in much longer than the recommended 10 days (this was day 11). The safe removal of the staples, and the knowledge that the scar was looking good, wa

My hair restoration journey

I had my first (and hopefully last!) HT done at Dr. Feller's clinic. Originally we shooted for 3000, the doc examined my scalp and said I have enough density and got more than 2600. I felt the doc taking 5 pieces of strips, one-by-one and stapled the open area. during the surgery itself it felt like the cut came a little too high on the head, which really worried me, and still does... not sure how other docs do but i think the lower the better as there is always a chance of existing hair on th

Day 8

Not much change in the photos. The scabs are largely intact. Today was the first day I have used any sort of massaging on the recipient area when shampooing, but it still didn't shift many of the scabs, so maybe I need to use a bit more force. Still getting a bit of soreness from the donor area, chiefly when I lie on it. The soreness seems to be more pronounced in one point on the right side. I emailed the clinic about it, but they said not to worry and to check with the doctor who is taking o

Day 3

Some more photos, showing the results of my HT three days ago. Front Top Crown / Vertex Back (it was very difficult to take a photo where the donor area scar was visible - you can just about see it in this one)

Consultation and operation

Consultation I travelled to Istanbul four days before the operation (Sunday 30 May), as I wanted to combine the HT with a look round a city I'd always been keen to visit. I highly recommend it, particularly a hammam the day before to help provide a relaxed, restful sleep. I was picked up from the airport by a very friendly driver from Transmed, who would also ferry me to and from my hotel for the consultation and operation, as well as dropping me back at the airport for my return flight.

Before

I am 38, and I've been losing my hair since my early 20s. I'm currently about a Norwood III, progressing towards a Norwood IV A. My father was a Norwood VI / VII by his 50s, and I'm pretty certain I would end up that way too.         After making no headway with various pills and potions (see profile), I began researching HTs extensively. I concluded that this site was the most comprehensive and objective on the web.   Based on the positive experiences on here, I decided I wo

Quick question from HT patient

Hello everyone, I am brand new to this site and am happy to answer any questions regarding my experience. I do have one quick question. I had 1,200 FUE procedure exactly 15 days ago, no transplanted hairs have shed, no scabs, but I do have a yello/brown tiny crust around each individual hair. Is this normal after 15 days or should I wash / massage it away? Does it affect growth? I really appreciate if a knowledgeable person could answer this.

1 1/2 months

So I have now been using my regime for 1 1/2 months....and it has been tough! The shedding made my hair loss look worse then it had...but it has been the greatest decision to combat my hair loss as now I have significant regrowth of white hairs(and some are growing darker) The pictures I have added you can just about see where the regrowth is recurring! Hopefully in a month of so they will be darker and you will be able to see! The quality of the rest of my hair is fantastic it feels so thick! I

Minoxidil and Temples

Hi! This month I decided, after 4 years of my hair line receding, to actually do something about it and stop praying for some form of miracle overnight regrowth! So I went out and bought Generic Minoxild from Kirkland, some GNC Mega Men Sport tablets (for general vitamin dosages), Provillus tablets and ARG Matrix (a new L-Arginine formula that is meant to help with keeping the hair healthy as well as many other benefits) I started using the Minoxidil and Mega Men Sport tablets on the 22

HairLab Dr Chao

Just wanted to place a plug for Dr Chao in Beverly Hills. I had a medical conference to go to in San Diego (I am an MD), and rather than go with a local San Diego doc, I did my research and when considering qualifications and price, found it worth the drive to go to Beverly Hills to Dr Chao. I saw another guy here recommend Chao before I went and thank you for that. Dr Chao has a muscular disease which affects his walking and large mucle movement but not his fine dexterity. Thought I woul

What Causes Hair Loss and How to Treat it

Hereditary hair loss is the most common type of hair loss for men and women. It is genetically linked to either side, mother's or father's and men and women. While rapid hair shedding in certain areas may be an indication of genetic hair loss, it's typically more gradual and follows a particular pattern like the Norwood scale or Ludwig scale . Diffuse pattern baldness (hair loss all over the top of the scalp) can also be caused by genes. Genetic hair loss can be treated with Propecia (finaste
