    Nice article Bill. I cringe at some of the misconceptions and inaccuracies whenever the media report a story on the latest celeb to have a transplant. The myth that always annoys me is when a less than reputable clinic describes their transplants as a 'totally scarless procedure'.

    You raise legitimate concerns and it's the reason why a reputable clinic will always formulate a long term plan and not just try for a quick fix.

    Go see your GP to see if he'll prescribe it to you. I got mine this way for many years and it only cost me the price of the prescription (around 30 pounds per year).

    If I recall correctly, I saw it advertised in a newspaper, with the usual claims of being THE cure for hair loss. I hadn't developed my rather cynical nature back then and was full of optimism that I would soon have my flowing locks restored. Alas, it wasn't to be.

    I tried this for a year or so over twenty years ago. It did absolutely nothing.

    This sounds about right. I had a 2000 FUE graft surgery with Dr. Lorenzo a few years ago. We started around 8am and got finished around 6pm. He did all the extractions and all the implanting, and it felt like he just didn't stop or ease off all day except for half hour for lunch.

    This patient is in his late 30's and has been on hair meds for a number of years. His main priority was the crown and to add a small boost to the front. He received a total of 2743 grafts by FUT with an average of 2.2 h/g Here we see him at 8 months and he is happy with the progress.

    I'm just going to be blunt here. You do not need a hair transplant. By the look of the pics it's going to be years before your hair loss pattern really shows itself (if at all) and I really wouldn't advise any surgery at this point.

    My first was twenty years ago. I didn't have the Internet or forums like this to research and read other people's transplant stories, so it was very much a step into the unknown. They were anxious months waiting for growth to happen. My subsequent transplants have been much less stressful, with no real nerves or worries on the day, and as SBS says above, excitement and optimism for the outcome as the post op months go on.

    One of the cruelest things about hair loss is that it can turn even the most sociable people into hermits. I've been there myself. But 2500 grafts if used sensibly can make a big positive difference for you. And if you respond well to finasteride you could be in a much better situation a year or so from now.

    Still very early days as you're not even at five months yet. There should be plenty more to come.

    Looks like nice clean work. I think you're right to keep a mature hairline rather than lowering it as you're not on meds and will likely continue to lose hair. Everything looks fine at twelve days. Still a few crusts by the look of it but they should be gone soon. Who was your doc and what age are you?

    Hi. When I get time I'll try to throw together a selection of pics charting my two decades of transplants. I'll have to hunt down the pics though so it could take me a little while!

    I know from experience how much we can obsess and worry about things in the early days following a transplant, but honestly I don't see anything that you should be concerned about. Easier said than done, but try to put it out of your mind as nothing is likely to change for at least a couple of months.

    So true what's been said about still caring about how we look as we get older. I had my first ht at 28, and if I'd had my way I'd have used up most of my donor right then to have the hair of a 16 year old again. I remember telling Mick at Farjo that I wouldn't care how I looked at 40, just give me all my hair back now! Thank God I listened to him and formed a long-term plan, as now 20 years later my hair is age-appropriate and I still have grafts in the bank which I'm sure I'll use in the years to come.     Thanks for your comments. The patient requested a conservative approach. He has achieved his aim and has many grafts left in the bank should he decide on further surgery down the line. Just because it may not be the approach you or I would take doesn't make it any less valid.
