Australia is not a nice place to go bald in some respects, especially if you are white, with Irish blood and fair skin. For a start, your probably sun burnt and wrinkly before your time anyway, even before the protection offered by hair on you're forehead starts thinning and vanishing.

We got all the BS going on from hair-in-a-can to Advanced Hair Studios. We had two good respectable surgeons last time I looked - long ago, and that may have dwindled to one for all I know. Not good for 20million, when u consider Belgium. To Aussies I think they outghta check out Mr. Cranky in Sydney (or his sister) and then cast the net wide OS.

I am Australian and had my first strip HT with Dr White and my result was satisfactory. I had my second procedure in India with Dr Madhu and my result was not worth it. Poor growth. An aussie should do lots of research and if they find an aussie surgeon their comfortable with than go with it. Otherwise consider the USA and Thailand and see if one you like their. I feel you need to ask how much experience have the technicians got not just the surgeon. Not all great surgeons are on this site, remember they have to pay a large amount to be considered on the this site.

This forum seems to have gone quiet, but here's my story:

I'm 27, started thinning about 4 years ago. I now shave my head, which doesn't look too bad, but yes i'd prefer my hair back, so I'm considering HT.

I'm booked into a clinic in North Adelaide next week for a consultation. No, I won't be jumping into any procedures until I'm happy with my research. Any recommendations of surgeons? This forum seems to recommend Dr Knudsen in Melb or Dr Path in Bangkok. I'd rather a decent procedure rather then a cheap one, as I'm sure most would.

I tried Rogaine a while ago but had bad side effects: swollen ears, dry skin on my face, face inflamed, basically my whole head was really, dry, hot and swollen! I've been too afraid of the side effects of Fin so have never bothered, and I think now i've left that too late anyways since I can't go more than about 3-4 days from shaving my head before my horse shoe becomes visible.

Hi mate,

I would NOT consider anything in Adelaide or Australia as through my research over the years I have not found anyone with consistently good results.

Another and very important thing to consider is that Australian surgeons are the most expensive in the world and I think it is very far from being the value for money in terms of quality and the money invested.

I would suggest to you to do a good research regarding potential hair transplant on this site as it got all you need to make decision on your hair transplant surgeon.

Good luck!!

Regards

Kris

So I had my appointment in Adelaide last night. My first impression was that I'd gone back to the 90s; the decor, the binder of info he showed me, but more importantly the wall pictures spruiking their before & after pics of clients. My appointment went for about 2hrs which could have easily been covered in half the time. For this I paid $60, but I think only since I offered to pay something. The surgeon is probably late 50s; he was pushing "sensi-graft", the sort of wig you stick on your head. I'm sure they look good but it's definitely not for me. He does FUT but he definitely recommends sensi-graft. I don't think he even does FUE. Needless to say I'll keep looking for a surgeon that specialises more in surgery, specifically FUE. I'll probably visit Melbourne next and try Dr Knudsen which I've heard some good things about.

This is interesting.

I had my first HT with Knudsen, he does FUT which is something I shouldn't have done. Now I am trying to get my scar repaired with Body Hair so that I can go as low as number 2 buzz cut on the side. Also I want a FUE done with at-least 1500 graft to boost my hair density.

Now I have mixed feelings about Knudsen, I don't think it's the worst but it ain't the best either. So I am considering Dr Bhatti. It looks very reasonably priced, he does FUT scar repair with body hair and he does FUE.

Any comment would be appreciated.

Hi HRSN1,

I am in a similar position. I have a fut scar that I would really like to camouflage through putting fue grafts into the scar area and also wanting to do fue for around 1500 - 2000 grafts for coverage on top of head.

How is your research going on who to use?

I am really keen to try and fix the fut scar so I can clipper down the sides a bit shorter as well. Is there any surgeons in Australia that can perform scar repair through fue and most importantly do a good quality job?

Any feed back would be appreciated

Thanks Mikey1970,

I have just messaged you!

One other thing I was wondering though with the fue grafts coming from your beard hair are you still able to shave your beard off completely without noticing any white dots? And do you notice where those 500 grafts are missing when you look at your beard?

Look forward to your reply to my pm.

Thanks again

Hey guys,

Going ahead with an FUE treatment of 1800-2000 grafts. Here are my current top picks and pricing. Am i missing anyone? And are there any recommendations / suggestions?

Ranked from lowest to highest in price based on 2000 grafts.

DR LOARWONG = $3.44 AUD = 2000 GRAFTS = $6,880.00 (BANGKOK

DR ERDOGAN = $3.61 AUD = 2000 GRAFTS = $7,220.00 (TURKEY)

DR KESER = $5.06 AUD = 2000 GRAFTS = $10,120.00 (TURKEY)

DR BISANGA = $7.22 AUD 1st 1000, $4.33 AUD AFTER = 2000 GRAFTS = $7,220 + $4,330 = $11,550.00 (BRUSSELS)

DR LORENZO = $8.7 AUD 1st 1000, $5.8 AUD AFTER = 2000 GRAFTS = $8,700 + $5,800 = $14,500.00 (SPAIN)

Top picks - Dr Keser and Dr Bisanga.

Hi Ozzielookingforhair,

No I haven't yet. Since i have taken some pictures I thought Id give it a year and see how much it worsens (if any) by the end of the year. The last dr i contacted was one from America whom I cannot name on this site. I think his work looks the best and I am also interested in his PRP. There are some great results floating around on the net. After sending him my pictures he encouraged me to avoid a transplant at this early stage in life - which i respected (the only surgeon who said that). He informed me my temples would not need more than 300 grafts each side and recommended PRP.I've always wanted to take a holiday to the states so I figure if I do go sometime in early 2018 I will stop by his office and have him examine me and see what he thinks. May just go the PRP or may get some work done if he thinks its ok to do so.I still think the others are great options but since I really don't need major work I cannot justify travelling to Brussels etc just to have 600 or so grafts done.

Keser or Bisinga? - I think it comes down to your personal preference and the feel you get from consulting each.

Hi Oliverqueen1,

I just had FUE 2500 grafts with Dr Laorwong in Bangkok just over 2 weeks ago (2 May).

The thing I'm most impressed about was the graft density.

Now that the scabs have all come off (after day 16) it looks just like natural hair! I can now get around without a wearing a cap, confident that no one would guess that I've had a HT at all let alone so recently. It just looks like a short crewcut, natural looking all over. I'm rapt.

Something I would recommend though is to be 100% sure where you would like your hairline to be. It will be drawn in with erasable marker before they start, so you get a chance to modify where you want it to be. It'd be good to practice this at home before you go.

I paid 100 baht ($4) per graft. You must be some kind of haggler to get Dr Laorwong down to less than that.

Anyhow I can't see any reason you'd go anywhere else.

Hi Oliverqueen01,

I first came across Absolute Hair Clinic at www.whatclinic.com via Google even though they are buried amongst dozens of other similar clinics in Bangkok on that website.

It was only after visiting the Clinic's own webpage that I really liked the amount of technical detail & videos they provided, and the large number of impressive before & after photos that could be found on their website.

The key to getting around Bangkok is to first ensure you choose a hotel no more than 10 minutes walk from the BTS Skytrain. (Notice that hotels in Bangkok close to the BTS never fail to mention that fact.) The BTS is a cheap and efficient way to get around Bangkok.

Unfortunately Dr Laorwong's clinic is not near the BTS. It's a 200 baht/$8 taxi ride from either, say, the Sukhumvit or the Silom areas (where tourists mostly stay).

In regard to the excellent and exhaustive review of Dr Laorwong provided by 3FN a year ago, it seems to me that his new hairline was deficient in some "temple work" that I feel was also needed in his case.

Contrast this to Dr Diep's videos here: (Chrome may be needed)

http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/185859-blonde-fue-dr-diep.html

That's not to say that Dr Laorwong doesn't do temple work. Some of the photos on his site show that he does. Or, for that matter, that Dr Diep always includes temple work where it's needed. Sometimes he doesn't.

Sorry for repeating myself on my earlier post, but I was surprised before my surgery to see the extent that they rely on the customer's guidance about where the customer wants their new hairline to be. I somehow thought they could look at you and "just know" where your ideal (ie original) hairline should be. This might be true for some surgeons (particularly westerners) that may develop an intuitive knack of knowing precisely what hairline would look best on you without you having to say a word. But possibly this is not as true for Asian surgeons.

In my case there was only a little bit of suggestion and modification before agreement was reached. But it was at Dr Laorwong's request that I got to draw the lines I wanted first!

So please give some thought about (eg.) whether or not you want the top of your temples filled out, and if so mark it in! Otherwise it may not (probably won't) happen. The same goes for your entire desired hairline. And try to avoid getting a quirky little V-shape at the front of the forehead. (Don't know why, but I keep seeing those from a range of surgeons,)

I know the above may sound unexpectedly negative. But it's not about the quality of the work. In my case the quality and excellent "craftsmanship" of the surgery is identical to 3FN's photos. I'm just trying to say you need to be able to clearly convey what your expectations are before surgery begins. And to do that you need to form a clear (mental) picture of where you want your hairlines to be, that you can then convey with a marking pencil.

With that part of it properly resolved before surgery begins, your satisfaction with the final result will be assured.
