  1. @hairlossPA thanks, appreciate the encouragement. I have still been shedding so just thought I'd get some opinions.
  2. An update and also concerned. Few days shy of 6 weeks and I'm continuing to shed. The recipient area is also still quite red but that may be normal. The area of my second hair transplant previously had 3500 grafts and it seems I'm shedding quite a few of those previously transplanted hair. During my first HT I didn't have any shock loss so not sure if this is normal as I would assume previously transplanted hair should not have been shocked. Anyone experience similar? Really worried. I'm also attaching a pic of things were looking at the 3 week mark. I should also mention that I'm on Finasteride for the last 10 years not that it should make a difference on the transplanted hair.
  3. There are many good surgeons. You should consult with a few recommended on this site and go with one you are most comfortable with a long term plan. Has your loss stabilized on Finasteride? You have a diffuse hair loss pattern. Were you planning on focusing on the front for now? With your age it might be better to leave the crown at this time to see how things progress. You also seem to have good donor hair characteristics which should work in your favor. Research well before making a decision and seek opinions on the forums it will be helpful.
  4. Did you try increasing dosage of Finasteride?
  5. @TommyLucchese - how's the topical Finasteride working for you? Are you using it twice a day? Is it sticky , does it have any residue? Are you using in combination with proscar? I've been on Finasteride for like 10 years, last year saw some shedding which was pretty stable prior to that. Not sure what caused it but might add a topical to the mix. Just not sure how legit it is off the internet.
  6. I find this very interesting. I myself have been on Finasteride for about 10 years. Last year I saw an increase in hair loss but prior to that things were pretty stable. The only thing different was that I started a lot of heavy lifting in the gym and prior to my first HT I also noticed accelerated hair loss when I did a lot of heavy lifting (no steroids). Things are not very clear on this topic but I recently came across a video from Dr. Jaya Prakash a HT surgeon in Australia mention that for for certain individuals who are sensitive to DHT it's possible the increase in testosterone causes more DHT conversion and accelerated hair loss. But it happens in some individuals and not all. Any how I did stop lifting nheavy but I'm unsure now if it was really the lifting or that Finasteride was just not as effective any more. Now the thing is I'm wondering if increasing the dosage of Finasteride from 1mg to 1.25 via proscar would help. @champybaby did you try increasing Finasteride dosage before going on Dutasteride? Was it your doctor who recommended Dutasteride? @giegnosiganoe what made you switch to Dutasteride after trying Finasteride?
  7. The only one I'm aware of is Dr. Konior in Chicago. He does have excellent results. Have a look through the recommended doctors there may also be others.
  8. Try to see a dermatologist first. Most dermatologist also can recommend starting dosage for Finasteride if it's MBP. I believe some doctors recommended here are also dermatologist but that may be better suited for in person consults unless you live near one recommended here. If not then get your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist. My only advice is that first get evaluated, if MBP get the hair loss stabilized for a year then finally research before going to any clinic for a HT. Don't let cost drive your decision if you end up going that route.
  9. Are you thinning all over? It seems like you have isolated hair loss in the front. Have you spoke with your doctor to see if this is MBP and not something else causing it? I would not be in a position to recommend dosage but I think taking it for 1 day, experiencing sides and stopping is too early to to draw any conclusions. You may have just been over anxious due to what you may have read on the internet. Don't get me wrong, sides do happen with some people and they normally stop once the medication is stopped. Talk to your doctor and see if he/she can recommend dosage and schedule to ease into the medication. If you have sides try topical Finasteride. But first get your hairloss evaluated in case it's not MBP and something more easily addressed.
  10. I would recommend you meet with a refered surgeon here and have a consultation. At this age you should probably stabilize your hair loss. Minoxidil and as mentioned by @gillenator try with low few days a week dosage of Finasteride and see if your body adjusts to it. There are topical Finasteride options that other members on this forum are using as there are fewer sides. If you post asking i'm sure others will provide details. Members here are very helpful. Do you have pics to share so that others can get a better idea. Most consults with referred surgeons here are free. There are options and hopefully you can find a solution that best works for you. All the best.
  11. My guess is that they may be ready to shed. Just not yet loose enough to fall out.
  12. @1978matt the crown now has no sign of loss. Amazing how your hair looks. Were you on Finasteride prior to your first HT?
  13. Have you spoke with a dermatologist? It's possible there is another underlying condition causing the hair loss. Even if you are offered another make-up procedure you should first get your scalp evaluated to rule out any issues. Keep us updated on how things go and really hope everything gets sorted out.
  14. Looks really good even under harsh pot lights. On top of it all it will still mature since it's only 10 months. You must be glad you went through with it.
  15. Are you at about 7 weeks now? Shedding just started? Coverage looked really good just prior to shedding. You are half there to start of growth phase. Look forward to see growth updates.
  16. Your donor looks really strong even after extraction of 3000 grafts.
  17. Have you seen a noticeable difference with early growth post HT or do you find it's only effective once the hair is already in growth stage to lengthen the growth quicker?
  18. Dr. Wong mentioned that if Finasteride was working not to take Minoxidil as it causes loss of collagen. I was using both but still debating whether to restart minoxidil post surgery. I used it many years prior to starting Finasteride but found it wasn't working for me. I had recently re-started it again in combination with the Finasteride to see if it would help my crown. I had stopped for surgery. Still debating whether to start or not. But for some it works really well and it would make sense to keep using it especially if they experience sides with Finasteride.
  19. Are there side effects to taking oral minoxidil vs topical? Does it cause excessive unwanted hair growth on other areas of the body?
  20. You have some early growth. Looking forward to see the coming months.
  21. Don't be discouraged by reading about side effects. Although there are reported cases it is still quite rare. If they do happen you can always stop. Before I started Finasteride I felt the same way but my doctor explained that it was rare and worthwhile to try. Consult with your doctor and perhaps see if you can start with a few days a week and work your way to the daily dosage. If you were a low norwood case then perhaps you would have been ok without meds. Have you been told what your norwood level is? It's hard to tell as your hair is quite long.
  22. You don't need the clinic to prescribe Finasteride, your doctor can do it as well. They should have discussed the meds with you for further loss to your native hair. MBP is meant to be progressive so not taking meds means non transplanted hair in the recipient area will continue to thin and be lost. The information you read regarding not needing meds if you have a HT is inaccurate and others here will mention the same. You still have 6 more months so hopefully it all grows out nice but I would start the meds if I were you to prevent further loss.
