Hey Guys,

As you know, Dr. Mwamba rejoined our network recently, and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to learn a little more about his practice and his philosophies. He's one of the few surgeons offering topical dutasteride and dutasteride and mesotherapy without going into the office. But he is also offering the service in his Atlanta clinic. He's an FUE specialist, he specializes in repairs, afro hair, donor farming, and much more. He's the surgeon they refer patients too when they're out of options.

Hopefully we can do this by Monday the 15th, but I haven't confirmed a time yet. If anything changes I will announce it here. Let's get some good questions going guys. This one is gonna be good.

How does the dutasteride and mesotherapy you buy directly differ from what he offers in his office?

I think it's the same solution, difference is at home you have to derma roll or use a derma pen for the mesotherapy and in office they will inject it. Might be better to ask if he feels the results are equal between home application with a derma pen and an in office series of injections, and if not, what is the difference in effectiveness.

We’re about to finish our 2nd and final day of surgery. I’m at his office, Skin of All Color (I believe it is Dr Neh Onumah’s office), in Princeton, NJ. Just an FYI, I had very delayed responses from 1 of his customer services reps. I asked about it today and they told me someone passed away in her family and that’s probably the reason why. Other than that, Dr Mwamba’s team has been the best. Very nice and caring people.

Hoping for great results.

I would like to know Dr Mwamba's thoughts on the best treatment for those patients who experience side effects to oral finasteride and why? Also as a current repair patient I would love to know his thoughts and philosophy for donor farming? We see a lot of patients who come back from say Turkey and the have had their entire donor area exhausted.

Yes, Dr. Mwamba is training surgeons in NJ, I wasn't aware of the name of the clinic or surgeon, but glad everything went well for you.

I was wondering what his thoughts are on topical dutasteride now that he's been prescribing it for a while and has probably written more prescriptions for it than a lot of doctors.

Does he feel it's more effective than other popular drugs (topical fin, oral fin, oral dut) or that is mitigates side effects? In his experience how often do you think topical dut causes adverse side effects from the drug going systemic?

I think a question around the true potential and amount to be able to harvest from the donor using FUE taking into account homogenous depletion and fit farming as well as SMP to camouflage the donor.

@mustangcase comes to mind.

On a related note, is he planning to publish any studies on this?

Hey Melvin - could you ask a question for him tomorrow for me?

1) if a Norwood 6 or 7 received an SMP treatment in which they are happy with, but would like to utilize beard grafts only in order to get texture on top, is that possible? This was we could minimalist scalp scaring?

Interesting takes from Dr. Mwamba.

I'm surprised he is, for lack of a better word, endorsing premade slits. I thought he would have played it more neutral like most other doctors and just said their are pros and cons without seemingly favoring one option. Not that I think premade slits are bad but I thought he wouldn't have favored one technique in particular. I think Konior mentioned that doing premade slits requires the slits to be larger as the opening shrinks and that it gives more flexibility as well as not having to worry about making a slit and having 0 or 2 grafts in the slit. Dr. Mwamba talked about DHI with slits made, but I was wondering what about DHI with no slits (i.e. just using a pen to make the incision and implantation in one motion). It's pretty cool to see even the top doctors having different opinions on various techniques

Pretty nice to hear the topical dut is working amazingly for the patients of Dr. Mwamba.

Also, I definitely get his point about technicians. The reality is that being a doctor is about mental ability not physical ability and there are gonna be technicians with extreme dexterity that outclasses a doctor in terms of implantations or extractions. Though I also understand the point of view of many forum members who prefer to eliminate as many variables as possible with technicians being a major variable in their result. I personally mentioned this before but I think the best compromise is a technician who has a lot of years of experience with the doctor

Awesome all around! Some great points made by the doctor on topical anti androgens and how to apply.

Also spoke well about the adjunct of SMP and the success in increasing the illusion of density.

Such a kind, ethical and conscientious doctor.

The Dr. speaks a lot about restoring higher Norwood’s however I was surprised on his website that I wasn’t able to find results of anyone who was more than a NW 3-4.

I know @captaincalicois an evolving example which is working out well! I would love to see more examples

He’s working on getting his results updated. Hopefully, as time goes on he shows more higher Norwoods.

They were 3 in total. Dr Mwamba, Dr Onumah and Carine, who I believe is a nurse/technician. Dr Mwamba and Carine did the whole procedure. Dr Onumah looked like she was being trained and I perceived she did only a very few things on my head. The surgery was done at Dr Onumah’s office in NJ.

Carine told me she has 10 years of experience doing hair transplants. Dr Mwamba has 20+.

Dr Mwamba and Carine do hair transplants in Belgium as well. I don’t know if there’s other people who might be part of the team over there.
