Senior Member CosmoKramer Posted July 3, 2019 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 3, 2019 Almost at my 13th month post FUE procedure and I thought I’d take some photos of my progress from having started microneedling/minoxidil/Nizoral around 6-weeks ago to see if I could improve my midscalp and crown coverage/density. Photos are of angles I don’t think I’ve posted before and with bright direct close up camera flash and without flash in normal lighting (lit hallway). Note that my scalp is slightly pinkish as a result of having gently microneedled earlier in the day and applied Minoxidil an hour or so after. Overall I’m really happy with the progress and will continue to see if any more improvement in my stubborn areas and areas were not enough grafts were implanted. Regular Member SprayPaint Posted July 3, 2019 Regular Member Share Posted July 3, 2019 Looking good @CosmoKramer !! Congrats. Question: did you ever experience any minor loss in the recipient area when shampooing in months 6+ following your HT? I ask bc recently when shampooing, especially in the recipient area I notice 5-10 hairs in my hands per shower. Wondering if this is normal or experienced by anyone else? Not sure if after a HT whether the transplanted hair is “permanent” or whether typical shedding during a shower is still normal?
Senior Member CosmoKramer Posted July 3, 2019 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 3, 2019 Thanks man! in regards to your question, I did shed probably close to a dozen hair with my daily shampooing but honestly I wasn’t sure if it was just my native hairs or any of the transplanted hairs but it was likely native hairs as I don’t think at such a new growth stage that the new graft hairs would shed at 6-months unless there was some underlying condition, so I think that’s normal. The new hair if growing to maturity should be permanent. Now I will say I do think I may have accidentally tugged out a short fine graft hair here and there early on when combing but I’ve noticed they’ve grown back, so I definitely recommend not stressing the new hairs with too much combing/styling/styling products even at 6-months, just let them grow and gain strength otherwise you’ll have to wait another month or so for a new hair to take its place and the whole time you’ll be stressing that the hairs are gone for good.

Yeah, it has, it’s been a great confidence booster and it’s great not having to stress and panic about all the little thing that affected me before the procedure i.e. Constantly wearing hats to cover up, wind, rain, beach, formal events etc. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Isn't that just the absolute dream though? Haha. So, so damn similar to my life. I literally cannot recall the last time I didn't go outside with a hat or a beanie, even to nice events. And it’s funny when I think back 5-7 years ago when I was loosing a lot of hair and doing all the other methods, that I would think to my self that I would never go the hair transplant route because of fear of the procedure/pain/would it look natural/cost to much etc haha Yeah, it’s pretty liberating, I blame a lot of my early-hair-greying on the stress and worry of having lost hair haha Is there something stopping you from going for an HT? Or are you just taking your time doing your research for one down the road?
Regular Member ViciousKeepLeftSign Posted July 6, 2019 Regular Member Share Posted July 6, 2019 It's a great result Cosmo, You may have been asked this, but what about another HT to fill in the crown / vertex area? Sorry if you've already been asked this!

Sorry if you've already been asked this! Thank You! Im not ruling out a 2nd ht to fill in my crown/vertex area down the road, but for now I’m looking to see if the thickening process continues for more months. I’ve also recently started microneedling and added minoxidil to see if it will benefit those areas and it seems to be helping, Ive been testing it also on my corner temples that receded long ago to see if any results and I do see some, I’ll add a photo or to in a separate post.
Regular Member ViciousKeepLeftSign Posted July 6, 2019 Regular Member Share Posted July 6, 2019 Ooo Microneedling is an arse - make sure you replace the roller regularly..at least it's on the crown where there's less pain receptors!
Senior Member CosmoKramer Posted July 6, 2019 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) I’ve used minoxidil years ago and with not much of a success , I also tried derma rolling with not much of a result, both at separate time spans, but this combination does seem to be producing something, but I understand it’s not a cure-all. So, I took a couple of photos yesterday of the receded area of my right temple just above the peak (triangle) after experimenting with microneedling and minoxidil for close to 7-weeks now and I’m seeing some new growth and some growth newly sprouted. Interestingly the new hairs are full of melanin just like my native hair color. I am going to continue to see if these develope into longer stronger terminal hairs. I posted these elsewhere where I’ve been following others’ progress. Any thoughts are welcome.. I just want want to be clear, the new growth i circled in green, the much longer dark hairs elsewhere are either my native or transplanted hairs. I use a pen and only use the sterile needle cartridges once and throw them away after, it’s much easier than with a roller. The pain is okay and bearable for me but yeah the crown area I do press more firmly to get a better response.

Senior Member CosmoKramer Posted July 6, 2019 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 6, 2019 @BeHappy Yeah, im a little surprised it’s actually working and growing some new hair this early, I think the key it to be consistent with it. @jonyny Thanks! Yes, I’m microneedling 1x every 7-10 days at 1.5-2mm needles and 1x each night I apply Kirkland Minoxidil 5%, although I have just started also gently microneedling 1x every 3-4days with 1mm gently to see if that helps grow the new hair follicles better and faster. 1
Senior Member CosmoKramer Posted July 17, 2019 Author Senior Member Share Posted July 17, 2019 Short lucky # 13th month update... I decided to get another fade haircut and really have the top cut short for this hot summer here in NY and to get a better view of my progress and any new improvement since having started Minoxidil foam and dermarolling almost 2 months ago with much shorter hair, top is now 1 inch long and sides and back are faded down to 0. 1st top photo is post haircut and post shower with hair still pretty wet, from yesterday. I am experiencing some dandruff probably from the scalp healing after microneedling & Minoxidil but it’s not too bad and am using Nizoral shampoo. With hair this short I think I gives a better closer look of density, coverage and any more progress. I’m still happy and even happier this month as I think I’ve had some more slight hair thickening and possibly new growth due to the microneedling/minoxidil, especially in the mid scalp and crown. 2nd bottom photo is from 2-months ago after a hair cut as well but with a bit longer left on top and front.

Just looks neater. I've read in places (and from personal experience) there seems to be a sweet spot in hair length so i guess you get to experiment now Do you have a preference? Thanks man! This is how short I used to have my hair cut for many years the “Army”-type haircut with lots of gel as it was easier to manage and still is and like you mentioned it looks even and neater but as I started to loose it that’s when the hats took over. Yeah, it feels great testing different lengths and styles, for convenience I like it short for hipper style I like it long. Recently saw an intereview with this actor in these photos (Stranger Things I believe) and I think my hair is similarly wavy like his and like the way he’s styled it in both photos.

Your progress is mind blowing really happy for you and thanks for the tips! Yeah, I’ve been consistent with it, I’ve been using the pen not-so-gently at 1.5-2mm once a week on same night and every 3rd night I gently microneedle at 1mm and use Minoxidil foam about half and hour to an hour after, no issues with sides and I have a good tolerance for the needles. Do you recommend me not using minoxidil a little after the microneedling session if I’m not experiencing any side effects? ...is there a reason to wait 24-hours to apply minoxidil other than sides? I totally agree with you, a good diet is important. Daily, I’m taking muti vitamin gummies/(2) MSM 1,000mg/(2) fast dissolve Biotin tabs 5,000mcg/(2)Vitamin D3 5,000 iu/(3-4) Nettle Root capsules 250mg/Collagen peptide powder in my iced coffees or smoothies for the extra collagen & amino acids/I try and get 1g of protein per pound of body weight a day/work out 4-5 days a week. Oh and the Kirkland brand Minoxidil 5% foam 1x a night/Nizoral 1% once every few days, Biotin shampoo & conditioner, emu oil 2-3 nights a week an hour after minoxidil foam. It seems like a lot to keep up but I like a good healthy routine.
