  1. This patient from the UK in his late 20's traveled to Vancouver for surgery at the start of last year to address his frontal and mid scalp thinning. He submitted these photos to Doug which marked his 12 month results. The patient is very happy with his transformation and I had the chance to meet with him in London last week to shot some hi-res photos and video which we will be documenting in full very soon. In the meantime I thought you should see the transformation from the patient submitted photos and a very cool time lapse video that he took of his hair every day from day 1 until month 9 of his result. Time Lapse Video Day 1 to Month 9
  2. Thanks very much for your comments. It seems that patients over the age of 50 heal very well in terms of their donor scars and the contrast between the grey hair and pale skin makes the scar difficult to find.

  5. If scalp exercises are done correctly they will improve laxity I have seen it countless times and in my own case, it is not a gimmick for our website that we tell patients they can't have surgery yet as their scalps are too tight. As an example I met with a patient that is looking to revise his wide donor scar that was caused by another surgeon. I have now met with this patient 4 times to assess laxity over the last 6 months and this has been improved three/four times to what is was when we first met. He is now in a position to have the scar revised when we first met that was not the case. This has been possible by doing scalp exercises to improve the mobility of the skin and the tissue beneath. He may also have built extra muscles in his arms as a bonus I have had 5 strip procedures so you can go into the sides more than once it but it depends on each individuals laxity, density and hair quality.
  6. Congrats on coming out so to speak I did the same about my hair and telling friends and family so I understand what you went through. It is nice that is is out in the open and people will move on in their interest in your hair very quickly. Yours is a good story and your hair looks great I am very happy for you.
  7. The back and sides are what matters not the top. The top of most peoples scalp is tight. We have a video on our website on how to perform scalp exercises. It is very difficult to judge yourself what your laxity is like but you can get a good idea when you try to manipulate the sides and back up and down. Thanks 1966kph.

  9. This patient from the UK and very local to myself had 2803 grafts from Dr Wong to address the front and mid scalp at the end of January 2013. He was very happy with the outcome and his 10 month results can be seen here http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/174163-dr-wong-2803-grafts-10-months-fut.html He decided at that time due to the success of the first procedure he would like to address the crown and tweak the hairline in a next session and started loosening his scalp to prepare for surgery. He returned to Vancouver mid March last year where Dr Wong was transplanted 1639 grafts into his crown, tweak the hairline and some temple point work . I followed up with this patient at his house at the start of January this year and these photos represent his progress so far at just under 10 months since his second surgery. I have included a photo of his scar that has healed very well after 2 sessions.
  10. I don't feel you need to have experienced something to be knowledgeable about it of course it does give a unique perspective but sometimes you can then become clouded by your own experience and assume this is standard for all procedures. I do get what empirestate is saying someone who has been through a procedure can give factual details not just from reading or researching. I do feel that there are some very knowledgeable people on forums like this and this would include individuals that have not had surgery. Some people choose to learn, watch and listen very carefully and there are some very dedicated people on this forums doing just that. Others have jumped into surgery without learning much at all some got lucky and chose a decent clinic whilst others got burnt. These people might be able to let you know about their experience of that surgery good, bad or indifferent but know very little when it comes to the details it just depends on the individual and their ability or interest to learn about the these details. There have been great football coaches who manage/d at the top level of the game without ever having played at the top level so many analogies that can be quoted but all irrelevant as we are talking about whether someone can be knowledgeable about hair loss/surgery without going through it themselves. I don't think you should ignore the information of these posters just because they haven't got first hand experience.
  11. Nothing wrong with doing things in smaller sessions and and it makes sense in your case. Speak to your own Doctor about Propecia and take some advice there. I know people that have fathered children on the medication although if this worries you then you could stop whilst trying to conceive but as I said speak to your Doctor who knows your medical history first. If saving money is not a problem then good for you but don't use it as a basis on choosing a surgeon. If all is equal between two clinics then price can be used as a deciding factor but very rarely are two clinics exactly equal. I sounds like you are doing the right things and I wish you all the best.
  12. I am glad to see that you are doing your research and consulting with many different doctors. Asking questions in your situation is the only way to gain more knowledge. I read through your thread but missed how old you are? How much hair have you lost over the last 1,3 and 5 years? That might give you an indication of just how soon the rest of the hair on top of your head will disappear. As others have commented low contrast from hair to scalp is a positive thing as is wavy/curly hair in terms of coverage. From the one photo that you posted it seems you are set for an advanced Norwood pattern and future surgeries need to be planned for and taken into account unless you are happy with a very modest amount of hair that one session or 3000 grafts will provide. I am saying this as money is an issue for you and the task of saving up for the next procedure might be required sooner rather than later if your hair loss is aggressive and you are unwilling to take meds.
  13. Thanks for all your comments it is appreciated. KO- looking at his photos alone and the numbers I personally would say he has medium caliber hair texture and above average density in terms of follicular units but slightly below average groupings. Here is the immediate post op photo that wasn't attached to the original post.
  14. I clocked this as what might be a transplant so understand what you are seeing. I am not sure but I think it is just his hairline receding and you are seeing the original hairline still there but agreed it does look a little suspect but perhaps we are all looking too hard these days for possible transplants
  15. If the last photo is your before and I assume it is then I think you are doing ok at 5 months. Everyone's growth is different and varies but yes you can expect more hairs to grow after 5 months. These new hairs can come in up to 8-9 months imo but you can still see hair maturing which results in the hair shaft thickening up to 18 months. A good vitamin B is recommended for hair. Result so far looks fine but of course I have no idea how many grafts you had transplanted but you already have a positive change.

  17. As KO says all looks to be spot on so far. I hope you will keep us all posted of your results once they come through.
  18. Fisher4man, Please find the immediate post op photo. He received grafts throughout the entire area with the exception of a small area in the frontal forelock. I do not have a breakdown of the numbers of what was placed where except to say that you are correct the mid scalp would have been placed at a lower density where higher density would have been used in the front minus the forelock and in the crown. He has an antibiotic cream on which some patients are given to apply carefully by the clinic as a precaution.
  19. This patient in his 30's came from Los Angeles to have Dr. Wong restore his hairline and temples. 2215 grafts were used, 1248 singles, 967 doubles. The strip was 11 cm long by 1.5 cm wide he was already on Finasteride. These photos were taken immediately post-op and show the hairline and temple design along with angle and direction control of the grafts. Note that the photos with the proposed area to transplant were drawn at the pre-op consultation the day before and were included here as a reference point. They fairly accurately depict the proposed game plan. The actual design was redrawn on the morning of surgery in a very similar proximately to the lines shown here.

  21. This local Vancouver patient was around 30 years old when he came to see us regarding his hair loss. As evidenced in the before and after photos he was a good candidate for hair restoration and a significant cosmetic benefit was expected. He had previously taken Proscar with no issues but stopped. Dr. Hasson felt a restart of the medication would be a good to preserve as much of the existing hair as possible and the patient agreed. The result depicted is 1 year post-op and required 5266 grafts. 1334 singles, 3521 doubles, 411 3-4 hair grafts. The strip was 30 cm long and varied from 1.5 to 2 cm in width. His co-workers were informed from day one he was undergoing a hair restoration procedure and were eventually very impressed with the result.
  22. Fisherman and others interested in the details of this surgery the final graft count was 6542. The reason that this number was achieved and required in one sitting is that in the nicest possible way UK2015 has a large head. A large head is a double edged sword in as much as whilst the patient has a larger number of donor grafts available they also need more grafts as a result to give the required coverage and density. On inspecting his scalp in person and seeing that UK2015 had above average density and laxity in the donor area and a large area to cover Dr Hasson was able to take a 38cm long strip by an average of 2cm wide to harvest the number of grafts. Dr Hasson noted that this particular patient has approx another 5000 grafts in his donor bank via FUT should he wish or need them in the future so whilst a high number of grafts was used it has still left him with a healthy donor supply going forward. He is taking Proscar. The breakdown of the grafts was 1619 singles 4453 doubles 470 3-4 hairs Thanks for your all your interest in this case.
  23. UK2015, Thanks very much for coming on the forum to share your experience regarding your surgery. It was great to meet you in person and to see your transformation and look forward to following your progress. I have posted a front on photo side by side as I feel it shows the changes best.
