I don't see how any of what I said is incorrect. You don't need to be a urologist to read and understand the evidence surrounding finasteride. Most physicians are well-informed.. that's their job. Will you find some who are against finasteride? Unfortunately, yes. Will you find urologists who are for finasteride? Yep. You can even do your own research, it's not that hard. I didn't think it was worth replying to you last time. It's not like you provided any scientific evidence, you just don't like how I and most other users talk about the drug so casually. The way I talk about the drug has to do with the evidence relating to its benefits and its great side effect profile. It's not like I'm denying the fact that side effects exist. On the contrary, it's clear that you talk about the drug with way too much caution. Yes people should be aware of the side effects, and that's where doing your own research and getting the opinion of multiple doctors comes into play.

Finasteride ASAP. Consult with a doctor to get a prescription of course, but no need for seeing a urologist and doing a bunch of tests lol. The large majority of the millions of people who take this drug have no problem with it. Worst case, if you're part of the unlucky small % who gets side effects, then simply stop taking the drug.

Definitely a hair mill, he was literally advertising it with "We have 18 premium hair transplant rooms!"

I don't think many people have posted reviews of Freitas on these forums, I only remember one or two. The spanish forums have way more.

Oh yeah, because the problems OP has with his procedure (extraction pattern/punch size, implantation pattern) are going to fix themselves with more time. Seems legit.

One of the core questions I have about FUT is where the skin stretching happens. Say you're a terminal norwood 5, and let's assume the skin stretching happens only in the area where you have hair remaining (right below the crown/on the edge of the lateral humps, down to the nape/sides). Say you remove a strip equivalent to 10% of that vertical length. Once the remaining area stretches to compensate, your donor density (assume it's equal throughout your donor, for simplicity) will now be 90% what it used to be. With FUE, you can instead evenly extract 10% of those grafts and achieve the same result. The only benefit of FUT seems to be that you can harvest the grafts from the vertical center of the donor area, which may be more robust than grafts from the rest of your donor. But if you're like one of Dr. Zarev's patients with an amazingly strong donor, then it doesn't seem like there would be much of a difference.

@aaron1234 wow, unbelievable transformation. And from what I can see, your donor still looks very dense. Any idea how many FUE grafts you have remaining?

To be fair, I don't think Jim ever doubted the growth? He was more concerned about the placement pattern, the extraction location, and the large punch size. I think we can all admit that Diep tends to get great growth. I wonder if it's something about his technique... Maybe the larger punch size allows for better survival of the grafts? Maybe the placement pattern actually results in greater survival?

Awesome result for so few grafts. I have some questions as your case is pretty interesting: Do you see yourself getting more procedures in the near future? Do you have any pics before your first procedure? I think it would be really interesting to see the full evolution. I can't imagine doing a FUT for only 500 grafts. How was the recovery? How is your FUT scar after all these procedures?

Interesting discussion. I originally took finasteride 1mg/day for 6 months, then switched to dutasteride 0.5mg/day for the past 18 months. I only switched over because I thought it would be good to play it safe knowing that the studies show dutasteride works better. I believe I've maintained over these 2 years (on either drug), but I can't say for sure. Very interesting that you've had noticeable loss @Harry Bosch. Is checking your T levels a good proxy for understanding the effect on scalp T? I know that the effects of fin/dut on serum DHT vs scalp DHT can differ greatly.

Thank you for all the details and the photos! The temple points make such a difference. Mine are thin so I may need to get some work done there in the future. This topic really interests me, I have a couple more questions if you don't mind: 1) How do the temple points integrate with your native hairs on the sides? In your case I guess there is a clear "border" between the two. 2) I believe natural temple points usually consist of a special quality of hair - finer, grows more slowly. I guess when transplanting to this area, you can try to select hairs that match those natural characteristics, but I hear it can be difficult to get a good match. Have you noticed any difference from what you remember your natural temple points were like in the past? Do they require more maintenance, such as keeping them below a certain length for them to look good?

Potentially dumb question, but is this 2020 pic from before or after your most recent transplant? It's hard to compare to the 2021 pic since that has longer hair. I'm wondering what your temple points looked like before this most recent procedure. What's your overall take on the temple points? They seem like most difficult area to transplant. Do they start to look weird past a certain length?

Thanks! hair/graft ratio is referring to the "Average hairs per graft" row, and more specifically it's nice to see the single/double/etc graft counts. Your numbers are more or less expected for an FUT.

It does look like retrograde alopecia. Interesting case given that the rest of your hair looks solid from what I can see. Get on finasteride to try to prevent further loss, then find a surgeon who is skilled in transplanting to the sides/temple points, because it can be a tricky area to get right.
