1. The beard hair is coarse (wiry) and thicker in calibre than scalp hair. 2. The beard hair grafts are all single folliles. 3. The beard hair tend to stick away from each other. Unlike scalp hair that cluster together. 4. The inability to cluster together results in a lesser visible density on the areas where purely beard hair are transplanted. 5. The beard hair are usually used as fillers along with scalp hair. This helps in providing coverahe as well as avoiding a low density look. 6. The beard hair take time to attain length unlike scalp hair. Sometimes the beard hair could have a faster speed of growth than the scalp hair but even then it takes time to attain length. 7. When the entire density is achieved and the hair are grown, there is no visual difference in the hair texture or hair or hair calibre. 8. When one runs his hands through his hair, one can feel the difference between the scalp and beard hair. The scalp hair are silkier than beard hair. 9. Hair products can be used to style the hair and it won't cause harm to the beard hair. Infact, it can make it easier to manage and style the hair suppressing it's wiry quality and coarseness. 10. Beard hair can appear to be frizzy and directionless and have a.mind of their own sometimes. For people with beard donor usage, styling and a suitable hairstyle can help greatly.

Should definitely be taking the medication if recommended. It is not a steroid. The name sounds similar coincidentally. -
Little advice please
Gabreille Nelson Mukhia replied to Pauls's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Personally, I don't think it really affects the hair growth at all. Maybe skin iritation because the skin is still healing and vulnerable. After my headwash on the 8th day, I used to freely run around in the scorching August heat in India. And my hair grew fine. However, to be careful, you can avoid prolonged exposure of skin to harsh sunlight and chemicals for a month at the most. Using a good sunscreen can be a blessing. -
It is impossible that Dr Arika Bansal would prescribe 5 mg Finasteride to a male patient at all. I am sure she has prescribed 1 mg. It is true that many people have reported an increase in anxiety when taking finasteride orally. The hair on the permanent zone are more immune to the effects of dihydrotestosterone and the hair on the temporary zone are less immune to dihydrotestosterone. Although it is not a requisite for transplantation. But intake of finasteride can not only help prevent any further progression of baldness but also help maintain the results by eliminating any factor of less immunity to dihydrotestosterone even for the hair in and from the permanent zone.

Hair loss diffuse thinning
Gabreille Nelson Mukhia replied to Abh N's topic in Open Hair Loss Topics
You have like minimum possible hair loss. Please don't do anything drastic. Go to a Dermatologist, follow the medications and be regular with the use of Finasteride. You don't require anything else. -
True sir. I am taking Finasteride 1 mg everyday. I did not take Finasteride earlier because I was worried of its side effects. (As it is I am already feminine; didn't want to enhance that part of my personality). But later, it turned out to be completely safe. At least for me. I didn't feel any side effects. As for the patients who are prescribed Finasteride, there are some who are completely against it and will not take the medication. We have very few reported cases of side effects. Maybe 1% people report feeling a decrease in sperm count or decreased libido. But the rest of the patients do not report any side effects at all. We also stop Finasteride at least for two months prior, for patients who want to conceive a child because Finasteride is avoided for pregnant women.

True. He must have a major percentage of the grafts grown. However, his hair are in different stages of growth. Not all hair are fully grown or achieved full thickness. For all the factors like hair caliber, anagen growth, length etc. usually synchronize by the 12th to 14th month. Sometimes patients are overwhelmed by the density by then. And thats when the Anagen desynhronization phase onsets and the hair cycle takes its course. I did lose density but only on the 19th month because I was a late grower. But the good hair days and bad hair days are a norm. Somedays I find my hair very thick and some time after, its a little thinner.

Hair loss suggestion
Gabreille Nelson Mukhia replied to Sbiza's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
You could have 2 FUE sessions with around 4000 grafts in the first session and maybe more later on. Provided your beard is of an average density. I have seen cases like yours. It is possible to achieve a decent coverage with adequate density over two sittings. -
Little advice please
Gabreille Nelson Mukhia replied to Pauls's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
Washing the hair does not really cause hair loss. But washing excessive times might lead to wear and tear of hair. Once a day should be sufficient to shampoo your hair with a mild shampoo. Minoxidil can be started after a month of the procedure. -
He has not achieved his full results. He has a lesser density right now and its completely normal because thats how it gradually grows. How do we know that hes yet to grow 30% or 40% or 50% hair? Can we confirm how much percentage of hair hes lost? And by what measure will we confirm the same? We can't. Its a phenomenon we can predict and assume. 30% of hair is shed off in the anagen desynchronisation phase. 30% of the full growth. Lets wait for his full growth to judge how it looks when he loses 30% out of 100%. Judging right now will not help with aasuming the final density. And how can anyone in the world confirm that the person will lose exactly 10 hair from a sqcm and be left with 30 hair per sqcm when the anagen desynchronisation phase sets in! It is a subjective assumption generalised to an average. Its subjective and he could shed 20% or even 40%. Will those hair grow back? Yes. There will be some months when he will feel te density is more than his expectation amd sometimes very thin. Before we judge his results, please at least wait for the full density to come. I got my full density by the 14th month. I know from personal experience that it is downright anxiety triggering when the growth is delayed or even during the months when the full density hasn't yet arrived.

True. I posted this after some concerns of delayed growth and density concerns. I did so because the patients sharing their results have brought me to a realisation that we need to be extremely specific and accurate about the details. Specially when they haven't even achieved their full growth. The comments are productive. And rightfully so. The comments further progress a discussion of transparency. However, this is a cycle that will also repeat itself in the future. Therefore, patients and hair transplant seekers can read this. If they are expecting otherwise then they can choose a clinic which an give rhem 100 hair per sqcm. Because we definitely can't. We also can't stop anybody's baldness from progressing if they don't take finasteride. Neither can we bring the results faster or stop the hair cycle from occuring. We neither overpromise nor do we encourage overexpectation. And we want to be extremely cautious regarding this.
-
1. Why is it not required? What if a patient wants a gelled/wet hairstyle? - Honestly speaking, that would be overexpecting. Transplamted hair will look thinner than normal hair when wet pr styled with oily products. People who want 100 hair per sqcm should rather opt for wigs or patches. 3. Isn’t the purpose of FUE to be able to cut your hair short? No. The purpose of FUE is to perform a transplantation procedure without cutting a strip and stitching. Keeping longer or sjorter hair is one's own discretion. FUT has a linear scar, true. But even with FUE there will be a collective absence of hair. The donor area will be thinner. People who are uncomfortable with tjat shouldn't go for transplant. 5. This cannot be stressed enough and more clinics need to be transparent about this - Extremely important. 8. I’d be careful with this statement. There are 10 year finasteride studies showing efficacy for a majority of patients but it’s far from a drug that will stop hair loss forever. - Finasteride "can help" prevent any progression of baldness. It is true in some cases, the effect is not as good as others. I personally use Fiansteride and I have not experienced any further progression of baldness since. 9. there is also dutasteride - Yes. Finasteride/Dutasteride camnot be substituted.
