  7. I think that if you plan to stop Propecia anyway, then you've certainly got nothing to lose by taking Provillus. If it were a "one or the other" decision then, IMO, Propecia is the way to go.
  8. Dr. Rosanell, Thank you for posting this result! This is a great first step for this patient. Given his degree of balding and the number of grafts, you've given him a very natural and cosmetically appealing result. One more procedure to add density will be the icing on the cake!
  9. JoeKid0000, I often feel like my photo should accompany the definition of pessimist in the dictionary. I know it's easier said than done buy try to relax. A positive attitude can go a long way during the waiting period. Best of luck!
  10. j1j9j85, Let me be the first to congratulate you post-op. Thanks for the detailed account of your experience. I wish you all the best and I'm looking forward to following your progress.
  11. wetlandsboymark, You are fine. The heat through the cap will not have a negative effect on your newly transplanted follicles.
  12. stripped, It's perfectly natural for one side to develop before the other. I wouldn't worry until you hit the 12 month mark. All the best,
  13. j1j9j85, Good luck to you! I'm looking forward to following your progress.
  14. Petchski, Congratulations! Your hair is looking great my friend!
  15. I have to agree. This should be the textbook example of a successful hair transplant. What more could any patient ask for? Lucky man!
  16. jspence09, There is really nothing revolutionary in Provillus. A brief look at their web site reveals that it is a two-part treatment process consisting of a topical component as well as a dietary supplement. The active ingredient in the topical solution is 5% minoxidil. This is the same as Rogaine and can be purchased in generic form much more cheaply. The dietary supplement contains the following: Vitamin B6 Biotin Zinc Saw Palmetto Nettle Root Pumpkin Seed Eleuthero Ginseng Uva-Ursi Extract and Muria Pauma While these ingredients may have some positive effect on hair quality and growth, they are unlikely to produce a significant cosmetic improvement or even slow your balding over the long term. At this time, the only two clinically proven and FDA approved treatments for hair loss are Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). In my opinion, abandoning finasteride for an herbal treatment is very risky and will probably result in accelerated hair loss.
  17. A study conducted by the Institute of Endocrinology in Prague, Czech Republic showed that, "In the course of finasteride treatment the decrease of the concentration of circulating steroids with known inhibitory activity on GABA-ergic excitation in the brain is very probably an important factors contributing to the development of the symptoms of depression seen in some isolated cases of finasteride administration." So, you may be correct in your assumptions. I am not a medical professional but I have heard of patients taking finasteride while also on antidepressants. Be sure to inform your doctor of all prescription medications you are taking when seeking to use a new medication.
  18. Dr. Lindsey, Thank you for sharing these cases with us. I'm looking forward to following the progress of each of these patients. It's great when a physician takes the time to listen and reflect on his patient's wants and needs and provides them with options.
  19. Christine, Thank you for posting such detailed scar photos. In my opinion, we can never see enough of these.
  20. Dr. Shapiro, Thank you for posting this result. The change is quite subtle and yet substantial. The profile shots are very telling. He's gone from receding to mature. It looks very natural.
  21. Guys, Please allow me to share my experience here. Honestly, I have not seen what I would call "pluggy" hairlines from any of our recommended docs. I have seen and have personally experienced poor yield leading to a thin hairline. However, the hair the grew looked completely natural. I just looked like a less balding version of myself post-transplant. In fact, while I was not satisfied with my growth and returned for a second procedure, I received several unsolicited compliments from people who had no idea what I'd done and couldn't put their finger on exactly what had improved. I found that very encouraging because I had been on the fence as well and did feel that it took something of a leap of faith to make that final decision. I do agree that very dense hairlines are not an option for most of us but I would argue that they are not entirely necessary for a satisfactory result.
  22. RE001, Spex has given you great advice! Balding is unpredictable. You're really playing a losing game when you bet against hair loss. I'm a natural born pessimist but, for some reason, I was uncharacteristically optimistic about hair loss. By my late twenties I placed a losing bet that my loss had stabilized and I'd end up like my grandfather who died with a nice head of white hair but a very mature hair line. By my late thirties, my frontal third was gone. I wish I could go back in time and start Propecia and Rogaine when they first became available. There are no guarantees but I'm confident that I'd have a lot more native hair at this point. Everyone has to choose for themselves what they are comfortable with but I urge you to research and make the most informed decision you can. There is no going back!
  23. Tom, Best of luck on your second hair transplant with Dr. Madhu! Please keep us posted on your progress. All the best,
  24. Mr.Nk, While some patients do experience excellent growth by the six month mark, many do not. I know what you are feeling because I had a similar experience. Some of us are truly slow growers. At six months, my results weren't spectacular either. I began to become despondent. However, I saw significant changes between 10 and 12 months and continued to see improvement in hair quality up to 14 months. You will hear this over and over on this forum and it is true...don't judge your results until the one year mark. That said, I was not satisfied with my first HT and returned for another to add density and lower my hairline. If you have not done so already, I suggest you contact Dr. Mohmand and discuss your concerns with him. Keep us posted on your progress. All the best,
  25. jazzanazz, Lots of guys here, including me, purchase generic Proscar and split the pill. I think you will find that splitting the pill into fifths will be quite difficult although I've heard of some creative individuals reporting success in this endeavor. Most of us split the pill into fourths. The added .25mg is negligible and the cost saving over buying Propecia is significant. A one year supply of my finasteride costs me about $60. As far as side effects go, much has been written on the topic. I suggest you use the search feature to locate previous discussions. My experience has been fairly positive. I experienced mild testicle pain in the beginning which quickly subsided. I have had no loss of libido and everything continues to work on demand. Others have not been so lucky. All the best,
