  1. gat4, As I'm sure you already know, male pattern baldness is progressive. You've already had a hair transplant so why wouldn't you want to do your best to protect your investment? In my opinion, you should definitely add Rogaine to your daily routine. Rogaine in conjunction with Propecia provides a one-two punch and is the best insurance those of us with MPB can currently take advantage of. This regimen may not only preserve your existing hair for some time but it may also grow you some new hair and postpone the need for another hair transplant. All the best,
  2. Dr. Shapiro, Thank you for posting this case. This patient is sporting a very natural and aesthetically pleasing result. He must be thrilled!
  3. RRVG, That's a beautiful new head of hair you've got there! Congratulations not only for your dramatic transformation but also for quitting smoking. Thanks for keeping us posted!
  4. outerhaven, I'd be happy to share my personal experience. I was afraid of the side effects also but, after my transplant, I knew that I had to use every tool at my disposal to keep future balding at bay so, with a heavy heart, I began taking the pill. I take the 5mg generic Proscar cut into fourths. In the beginning I started feeling mild testicular pain. Not terrible but uncomfortable. I decided at that point to back off the dosage a little and began taking it every other day. After a couple of weeks I gradually increased to every day again. I no longer feel any discomfort. The only other side effect that I've experienced is watery semen. As far as I'm concerned this is more than worth the benefits. Everything continues to work as it should. I'll leave it at that. I've also read the scary stories but everyone is different. If there are people who have experienced irreversible side effects, they have to be an extreme minority of users. I'm not trying to convince you to use it. Just sharing my experience. Hope this helps,
  5. Hero, Like Bill said, you are right on track at 2 months. I know how excruciating the wait can be. I'm almost 2 month into HT #2. I also think the Bear Grylls style is very, very possible! All the best!
  6. Iceman44, Yes, there are two clinically proven, FDA approved medications for the treatment of hair loss. Rogaine (minoxidil) is a topical solution applied to the scalp twice daily and is available over the counter. Propecia (finasteride) is a pill taken once daily and is only available by prescription. It is generally believed that these treatments work best when used together. While these medications have the potential to slow or, in some cases, reverse hair loss, the only way to know if they will work for you is to try them. Using any medication runs the risk of experiencing side effects. I suggest you continue to research these treatments by using the search feature in this forum. All the best,

  8. thebutterflycollector, Glad to see that you've come back to update us! In my opinion, you should seek another doctor's opinion. Some GPs think of hair loss as an unavoidable, natural progression that should not be a concern. Being proactive is the right thing to do. Modern non-surgical treatments for hair loss such as Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride) are much better at retaining hair than they are at growing new hair. For that reason, the younger you start and the more hair you have, the better your results will be over the next few years. If it were me, I would call a dermatologist's office and ask. You've got nothing to lose. You may also want to consider calling the Farjo Medical Centre. Never begin taking Propecia or any other medication without first consulting a doctor! Remember, it's your hair. Don't stop asking questions until you are satisfied. All the best!
  9. momo, Where are these "mixed reviews" you are referring to? I do not recall seeing anything but positive comments regarding Dr. Madhu. As Future_HT_Doc has pointed out, Dr. Madhu is a respected and recommended hair restoration physician on the Hair Transplant Network. You can read highlights of his review by our patient-based online hair loss community here. All the best,
  10. cantturnback, I sent a reply but it was returned to me as undeliverable. If you would like to send me before and after photos you can send them to service@hairtransplantnetwork.com All the best,
  11. Danielkiwi, As Anouar put it, "In the right hands they heal well." This can't be stressed enough. Every surgical procedure carries the risk of scarring and in the wrong hands, hair transplant patients may experience recipient area scarring or even cobblestoning. This was one of my concerns when having my first hair transplant procedure. When I brought this up to Dr. Alexander he dismissed the notion right away because, in his skilled hands, it's simply not an issue. I can say from experience that there was no visible scarring in my recipient area and no detectable difference in scalp texture between the transplanted and non-transplanted areas. I'll say that with the disclaimer that everyone heals differently and, of course, results will vary. All the best,
  12. cantturnback, There are always answers. I urge you to reach out, not only to those on this board who know exactly what you are going through, but also to one or more of our doctors. Bosley is to blame for getting you in this situation. They are not going to help you get out of it. Before you do something else and far worse that you can't turn back, let us help you find a solution. In order to do that we need more information. Please share more details with us and some photos. You will find doctors right here on the forum that participate in discussions every day. As always, if you are not comfortable having this discussion in a public forum, you can private message me. Send me your photos and I'll contact some of our doctors on your behalf. We all want to help!
  13. cantturnback, You took the right step by reaching out to this community. You are not alone! Please post some photos so that we can see what you are dealing with. As Spex said, all is not necessarily lost. There may be solutions for you. Feel free to send me a private message if you prefer. All the best,

  16. I Have been following this thread closely and I wanted to take a moment to thank all of the posters for sharing their experiences. It is important for prospective hair transplant patients to not only see the best, the average and the below average but to also know that there has been and, in some cases, still remains a potential for very undesirable results even in the best hands. I count my lucky stars all the time that I was as poor as I was in the early 90's when I went for my first hair transplant consultations. A balding friend and I made a road trip to Los Angeles to visit Bosley. As bad as their reputations is, I have to give them credit because they told me I wasn't yet a candidate and to return when my mature hairline became worse. I remember the brochure they gave me. It advertised flap procedures and scalp reductions. That all seems so barbaric at this point in time. That answer wasn't good enough for me so I visited Dr. Shelley Friedman in Scottsdale. Dr. Friedman is a great guy and he also told me I wasn't yet a candidate and to return in the future. That still wasn't good enough for me so I went to a really dumpy, ugly, run down clinic in Mesa, AZ and, wouldn't you know it, they said I was a candidate and for only $10,000 they would restore my hairline. If I'd had the money, I would have done it in a heartbeat and I can't imagine what damage I might have endured at their hands. You're right guys, its not your fault. Hair loss has made most of us vulnerable at one time or another and it's easy for even the smartest and most streetwise of us to fall prey to unscrupulous salesmen promising us the world for only a few thousand dollars. I do need to point out that, in spite of my less than stellar growth the first time around, my growth looks totally natural and my scar was perfect and I'm hoping this second time will be the same. I remember thinking before my first hair transplant that I was so miserable with how I looked that it couldn't possibly be worse. Now I know that it could have and, again, I want to thank you all for your courage and your honesty in sharing you experiences with me and the rest of the community. I truly wish the best for you and I hope that treatments are on the horizon that will help make things better for you. All the best,
  17. Albion71, I wish I could provide you with a definitive answer but there is still a lot of debate surrounding the benefits (if any) of using a laser comb. After my second HT, my doctor recommended that I use a laser comb for its healing benefits and not for growth. He felt that, due to my poor yield the first time around, it would be in my best interest to do everything I could to tip the odds in my favor. I just couldn't swing the added expense and, since I hadn't read enough compelling arguments for its use, I decided not to do it. You can find some very interesting discussions here on the forum and elsewhere on the web regarding this topic and you may also want to read the article, "Laser Treatment: is it Effective in Stopping Hair Loss?" at the Hair Loss Learning Center. All the best,

  19. Christine, Thank you for sharing this patient's results with us. I can understand why he is so happy! He has made a complete transformation.
  20. Dr. Rosanelli, This is an amazing result for any number of grafts but especially impressive for such a small count. This patient is very lucky indeed to have the hair characteristics he does! Thank you for sharing this result!
  21. Jotronic, Another stellar result from Dr. Hasson! I especially like the profile views. This patient is able to pull of a very youthful and stylish hairstyle!
  22. orangehair, I'm really impressed by this patient's results! Good to hear that Propecia has stabilized his hair loss. I think he made a great decision to concentrate on his frontal third. I bet he looks 10 years younger now!
  23. HunkyMonkey, Nice hairline and amazing transformation! Just think, you've probably got quite a bit more to look forward to. Thanks for sharing!
  24. outhere27, Welcome to the community! You bet this has been discussed before but that's okay, this is one of our favorite topics! Truthfully, I'm sure the members of our community will be happy to share their thoughts and opinions regarding who their favorite doctor is but the real question will be, "Who is the right doctor for you?" If you have not done so already, I suggest that you take some time to review our list of recommended doctors. Preview examples of their work and specifically look for examples that represent your degree of hair loss. You may also want to read about how we select the doctors recommended on this site. Best of luck in your search!
