Now you’re making it sound unsafe but Proscar which is the same drug in higher dose is FDA approved so has a safety profile. You mean it’s not FDA approved for hair loss. And no + that’s   not likely to happen as it already has  FDA approval for the other purpose and the process costs a huge amount of money, they are making a huge amount already from the topical (or maybe they don’t even have a patent right for the oral version for that purpose I don’t know) so there’s little incentive for it to ever happen.

They didn’t need to get FDA approval for the oral version, because they already got it for the topical version. Same reason why topical finasteride won’t get FDA approved. That doesn’t mean it’s not safe.

Ah right, that would make sense.

@New_Barnet_PleaseI gave a suggestion. There is nothing wrong with doing echo and ECG just to be safe. 5mg Oral minoxidil is a drug for Hypertension. Moreover oral Minoxidil is yet to be FDA approved. Now in no way i am saying don't use it. All i am trying to say is use it with caution. That's all. If it is working for you nobody is stopping you from taking it. Good luck.

Maybe there is something wrong with the suggestion though, because you might be adding worry, take up people’s time and money doing these things which could be completely unnecessary. Based on what. This is why I think it’s best to take suggestions from doctors specialising in the area, who actually have a real understanding of the risk profile for each individual patient. Not people who could be passing on forum rumours from somewhere else on the internet.

@New_Barnet_Please Do take consultation with a good doctor and move forward with the regime he suggests. Also in none of my replies i mentioned about side effects. I made a point regarding echo and ECG because the drug is mainly used for hypertension which in turns affects your heart health. That's all. In no way i am trying to say that oral Minoxidil will cause harm in everyone. It's a choice of the pateint at the end of the day.

@Adier please cite your evidence that oral minoxidil in low dose for hair loss “affects your heart health”?

… why? Would you go totally against the medical instructions of how the drug is supposed to be used. Seems unnecessary as it’s possible to just get proper dosed and made for bodily consumption oral minoxidil prescribed by a doctor.. totally risky and.. crazy to do this imo!

Desperation

I've worked my doses up starting at 5mg, I'm willing to accept the risks. Finasteride gave me sides I had to stop.

Something to consider: Maybe it's possible to do oral min for 6 months or so to see if you get big results, and then switch back to topical to see if you can hold your gains. This way you get the best of both worlds without risking the Min going systemic and having cardiovascular effects

I have a separate thread on the forum for my procedure with Dr Bisanga 3 months ago, however I thought I would post a thread regarding my experience with oral minoxidil.
At consultation Dr Bisanga recommend I took oral minoxidil - I started on 2.5 mg - 3 months later I went for my procedure and I upped the dosage to 5 mg.

Although the before and after pictures are at slightly different angles my crown and top of my head are most definitely seeing a big improvement.
I am also 3 months into my procedure and growth has started. Fingers crossed it continues to do so 🤞

This is outrageous. Congrats on the huge results.

Just want to make this clear for anyone interested in OM. Unlike topical it is dosage dependent, the more you take the more minoxidil metabolite you get, because your liver has enough of the enyzme, 2ndly you will get bloating/water retention on any dosage/low/high if you have a bad diet and you eat high salt foods consistently, and drink little to no water, ALONGSIDE being overweight.

Oral Min is for people who can keep track of their salt/water intake, aswell as maintain a healthy life style, take it from someone who is on 10mg of oral minoxidil, with 0 bloat, 0 water retention, the only time I have ever encountered retention on the drug is when I pigged out and had 2 pizzas and a full night of drinking with friends, which is out of the norm for my strict gymsqe life style

If you don't have folices there you won't grow alot of hair so if its already dense and populated it wont be a biggie, but your hair will get thicker in diameter and darker overall

I've heard the 2x a day thing is unnecessary. I work from home so it's easy to just throw some in around 11am and wash it out around 5pm. But would definitely be annoying if I had to work in an office with it in.

Why do you wash it out?

I have a cat and Min is supposedly quite toxic for them so I'd rather not risk it. But also supposedly 75% of Min is absorbed after 4 hours so I don't see the point of leaving it in. And if I'm going on that night I wouldn't want to leave it in because it leaves my hair looking ridiculous

Been on oral min (prescription) through my HT doc which costs me $0 through my insurance plan. Started at 1.25mg for a month and have been on 2.5mg for several months after. No sides what’s so ever. So much easier than the topical and hoping to get really great results with it. Even got cardiac and labs done - everything is OK, thankfully.

My arm hair already does that lol. But I keep it trimmed. Is that the only sides? More body hair?
