  1. I have always hated the Norwood scale, because I never seemed to fit exactly in one place. I was watching Unforgiven and I realized I could better describe myself as having Gene Hackman Hair before my first transplant in 2011. Everybody knows Gene Hackman and can picture how he looks. What famous person do you have hair like?
  2. Your post got me to thinking, and for the first time I went back and rated myself as a Norwood 4.5 to 5 based on old pictures. I had excellent results from the first FUT transplant in 2011 (2,000), and suffered no shock loss that I knew of. I was astonished by the results, and nobody knew I had a transplant. I just had 2300 FUE done 3 months ago and I am waiting on results. I went through a 6 week 'Ugly Duckling' period only because of the shaved donor area.
  3. I will guess that your recipient area was shaved hence the extended 'Ugly Duckling' period. Shaving the recipient area put a whole other spin on this topic, and if I had FUE again I would opt for the buzz initially. I just don't see the benefit of continuing to buzz past the initial buzz.
  4. There are a few things I don't understand. If your recipient area is not shaved, and once the donor area grows out - why are you experiencing an ugly duckling phase at all. At about 6 weeks when my donor area had grown I looked like pre-surgery normal. Another thing I don't understand is if you you are going to keep your hair buzzed real short why bother with a transplant at all.
  5. I was one of the super cautious ones who did not pick at scabs, but let them fall off naturally. I read of guys who almost attack their scalp. I don't remember ever benefiting any time in my life from picking a scab. 3 months post op and I still pat my hair dry. Sometimes I believe the conventional wisdom is more illogical than conventional. https://www.stjoes.ca/patients-visitors/patient-education/u-z/PD 6225 Wound Care After Surgery.pdf
  6. I will not give a recommendation because I always err on the side of caution. I will only say that you have had a major incision. Here is a general guide on taking care of your wound. https://www.stjoes.ca/patients-visitors/patient-education/u-z/PD 6225 Wound Care After Surgery.pdf
  7. Do at least 6 months of research before you do anything else. There is a lot of debate on PRP. Read the NIH study on it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4622412/
  8. I believe the NIH did a study on it showing some benefit. I had it done with my last transplant 3 months ago, and really I have no opinion on the efficacy. Of course it is still early for me. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4622412/
  9. I wouldn't think that at 12 months that would be a problem.
  10. You just run off at the mouth offering no proof. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/6-years-after-the-biggest-loser-metabolism-is-slower-and-weight-is-back-up/
  11. I have no knowledge in this, but can those grafts be retransplanted?
  12. Calories in - calories out DOES NOT WORK. The Biggest Loser proved this beyond a shadow of a doubt. These poor people have permanently reduced their metabolism to the point where they will never be able to keep the weight off. 50 years of following the FDA's ideas has brought us to Obese America. Follow a Keto diet and incorporate fasting into you life. It is time for you to learn about Autophagy.
  13. What's useless is you thinking your post has an merit. What makes sense is using your common sense and not using the hair dryer. Who here is qualified to answer his question? Time is the only thing that will answer the question.
  14. I guess I am just of a different school than most on here. I wouldn't even consider using a hair dryer at any setting, no matter what the doctor said. Some things just don't make sense.
  15. I babied my transplants for about 5 weeks with constant saline solution, baby shampoo, no rubbing and allowing the hair to air dry. I went with TLC with both my transplants and that is what seems to work for me. I had NO swelling or redness either time.
  16. Some guys should not shave their head - they look like Uncle Festus. I don't look like Festus, but I cannot wear short hair. The only time I would ever buzz is if I was getting FUE again. Also some guys are just too white to shave their head and look freaky. LOL
  17. FUT is the easiest thing in the world to hide. Why are you doing this? Just give it more time and quit going to the barber.
  18. Clerksband, I am probably a little biased on this because I had a plastic surgeon advise me against a procedure when all others advocated it. I listened to him and within a year a new much more effective procedure was introduced. This was non hair transplant related, but if a surgeon, who stands to make money off the procedure advises against it, I tend to listen.
  19. Medical tourism is a giant industry just because of the ridiculous prices charged in the United States. In a month and 1/2 I travel to Costa Rica, and I have been researching this doctor for years.
  20. You all must analyze your head by the hour. I am about 2.5 months, and I don't even think about it. I would go crazy doing what you guys do. Plucking sounds very counter productive to me. This is my 2nd transplant and and I treated my first with kid gloves and it turned out great. I am treating this one with kid gloves and I expect as good of a result. I have never scrubbed or plucked even one time. I don't fit in this culture if this is the crap you guys believe.
  21. If you can get another FUT I would stick with that. With them buzzing your donor area for Fue the back of you head is going to look like a railroad track. I went FUE this time, but in retrospect I would have just done FUT again. FUE is a hassle with the horrible haircuts. The actual FUE procedure is not bad, but dealing with months of looking like a fool sucks.
  22. There have been several threads on this topic just recently. When asking this question please specify FUT or FUE. I will say I had FUT in 2011 - went back to work after 2 weeks and nobody knew.
  23. It feels good when you push through with an informed decision. 6 months from now you will be an old pro on here calming newbies down.
  24. I did not have shock loss with either FUT or FUE. In either case my recipient area looked normal after two weeks and only because of the horrible haircut with FUE did I need to wear a hat to conceal the haircut. FUT was really a piece of cake. Lucky for me I was retired when I had the FUE or that would have been embarrassing to hide. In retrospect with FUE I would just go ahead and get a buzz cut before the procedure.
  25. I have found that concealing a FUT is no big deal after the scabs come off. FUE is a different story. I was lucky when I got my FUE because I was retired and could hide out. There is still a stigma associated with any type of cosmetic surgery, especially for men, and the very last thing I want is for everybody to know. There are those who will never let you forget it so secrecy is the best policy.
