Maximum percentage of beard/chest hair transplanted using FUE/DHI?

I am a Norwood 6.

If someone is concerned about how much of their donor area will be lost in the future due to continued loss as one gets older, and consequently wanted to minimise the amount of hair extracted from the normal donor area (i.e. back/sides of head), what would be the maximum percentage of donor which could potentially be extracted from beard and/or chest area?

Assume that their is enough beard and chest hair for the full procedure.

For example, could 80% of the hair required for the transplant be extracted from beard/chest?

Thanks.

Most doctors don't even consider using chest hair. Only Dr. Umar Sansui (as far as a I know) is very willing to use all body hair. I don't know his success rate, you should email him and ask.

Beard hair is more commonly used.

Here is Eugenix's video on this topic and it contains some stats:

But then there might be other doctors who ge better results.

The issue you would likely encounter that strikes me straight away, would be in relation to anagen phases. Beard and more so chest hairs have lesser time in the anagen phase than scalp hair, therefore you could be sparse up top for longer periods of time, than if scalp hair was used.

You would also need to visit a doctor who is a specialist in this area, as transection rates for BHT tend to be higher - however this is improving with modern techniques and a greater understanding.

Dr Mwamba is another BHT specialist worth checking out,

If you have enough body hair you could theoretically use 100% body hair transplanted with no scalp donor used at all. If I remember correctly there was a recent post or video on this forum about someone who had a massive amount of back hair and I think they only used that hair to transplant to his head and it looked like it turned out really well.

I had a large completely bald area in my crown that has been transplanted with only beard and chest hair. The area is still thin and needs more grafts (I just had more put in this week actually), but as far as how it grows and the texture, there isn't really much of a difference. Most people seem to say that body hair will grow slower and not as lengthy, but I found it to be just the opposite on myself. My beard and chest hair grow faster and longer on my head than my native head hair does. I have to cut it more often than the surrounding native hair.

Here's the back hair to head transplant I was talking about in my previous post.

This is nuts! All about this: both the amount of his back hairs and the results. I thought chest/back hairs were very rarely used with success (e.g. Eugenix experience).

Minoxidil 1x day

Stopped Fin due to sides

The problem is that if 80% of the recipient hair was made up of beard/chest hair the results would look completely unnatural. The characteristics and behavour of these donor sources are completely different to those of scalp hair.

While you have a valid point @Gatsby, I do not agree entirely as I have seen examples in which 80% or so of body hairs looks great. One example is Rahul, a Eugenix patient, a NW 7 with around 12k grafts with only around 1k or so coming from the scalp. His results are posted somewhere on this forum. You can probably find his video is a google search.

Yes you have a valid point. I chatted with Rahul in August of last year after he did a podcast on Instagram with Dr Sethi.  He had three failed hair transplants prior to going to Eugenix. His beard hair and scalp hair are both straight hair and it matches well.

Yes, he certainly did have a great result @Gatsby. I think on a more modest graft count level, Amirik (posted on this forum) got nice results with Eugenix using 3,613 (or something like that) grafts using exclusively body hairs.
