2cm lower hairline? Is this possible? Which Dr could deliver the density?

Dear friends,

I am in need of your advice and experience. I do not have hair loss... however i do have a large forehead. Ive struggled with this my whole life and i decided i want to do something about it. I looked into the hairline lowering/forehead reduction procedure for a couple years, but i recently came to the conclusion that its too risky, not only would i be at risk of hair loss in the future, but complications during the procedure are much higher(ive read stories where people lost all their hair)

So now im more inclined to go with hair transplants. The only worry i have is that the density wont be enough and youll be able to see a difference on my forehead.

One doctor that i was really interested in was Dr. Huebner, he is extremely nice and affordable. But idk, i need to look at all my options and compare.

Is it possible to get this done?

Ive spoken with a number of doctors so far and done tonssss of research. But i want to hear from the people themselves. Can anybody recommend me a doctor that can achieve this? How was your experience? Does your hairline look natural? Tightly compact?

I live in NY, but i am willing to travel.

My budget is minimal... looking for something around 8,000, that is as much as i saved up at this point in my life.

Thank you so much for your time and attention, i appreciate all your help.

At 22 years old I'm fairly certain you have MPB, the temple corners are receding and you can see miniaturization, I hate to be so blunt about it, but I've been in your shoes before, I always had a larger forehead so I was in denial and wasted time that could've been used preventing hair loss. Are you taking any medication like finasteride&minoxidil? That's your first line of attack, if you really don't think you have MPB then search for a photo of when you were 14 if the hairlines the same then I'm wrong, although I've never seen a 14 year old with a hairline like that.

I have no doubt that Dr. Huebner, extremely nice and affordable. Unfortunately he uses an outdated technique from the 80s. His marketing campaign is all smoke and mirrors, they like you to think their approach is cutting edge. Micro and mini grafting will look very unnatural and pluggy in your hairline and probably be stuck having to have a second surgery to soften it.

You can research to website to find other doctors that use modern techniques and are ethical.

Before thinking about a hair transplant go to a doctor who can check your scalp microscopically for miniaturization. It appears to be receding or maturing which at 22 is almost always MPB, this is a crucial time to get on meds.

Hair loss can skip generations, my brothers 39 Norwood 1, my fathers 59 Norwood 2 and I was a Norwood 6 by age 29. Getting a transplant without first stabilizing hair loss is pointless and can lead to disappointment. Finasteride is a personal choice, I personally don't take it because I got side effects but many men don't. Minoxidil, ketocanozole shampoo, pumpkin seed oil, and azelaic acid works great for me anything is better than nothing.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but I would be very leery of any hair transplant at 22 years old unless it involved a very small amount of grafts.

Who knows what your balding situation may be like in 10 years?

In a few years you may need those limited donor grafts in far more critical areas if you begin balding. Once you start balding a low hairline would be way down your priority list.

If I were you I would definitely go see Dr. Feller and Dr. Bloxham at Feller Medical in New York. Talk to both doctors. Feller and Bloxham both are active on this message board and appear to get really nice results. Feller Medical would be on my final list of doctors even traveling from Texas where I live.

Dr. Dow Stough - 1000 Grafts - 1996

Dr. Jerry Wong - 4352 Grafts - August 2012

Dr. Jerry Wong - 2708 Grafts - May 2016

That looks like quite a bit more than a 2cm lowering, almost like 4-6cm in some places and would take a huge amount of grafts to get it at a full looking density. You also have very visible thinning going into the corners of your hairline which would require even more grafts. Basically, whatever price/graft/etc expectations you had, you're probably better off doubling them. And without medications, you're going to recede further. You weren't born with this hairline, it's definitely MPB.

Consult with Feller or Bernstein clinics in New York, as they're both respected coalition surgeons and a good place to start.

As for your $8000 price limit, you're definitely not going to afford the amount of grafts you need, especially in New York. The closest affordable option for you would be Rahal in Ottawa.

Also I've drawn a line to show just how far your thinning seems to go back.

If you must have a hair transplant to lower the hairline, pursue a hairline specialist who has produced consistently natural-looking hairline results. You may need two surgeries to be happy. Measure your current hairline and the density that exists. Get more than two consultations for good measure. Find out why there are still many hairline repair cases being performed by the small group of hairline specialists.

At 22 years old I'm fairly certain you have MPB, the temple corners are receding and you can see miniaturization, I hate to be so blunt about it, but I've been in your shoes before, I always had a larger forehead so I was in denial and wasted time that could've been used preventing hair loss. Your hairline is maturing, but you do need to manage your resources as if you will recede to a class 3v. Whether you become aware of any hair loss is a probability based on time. Try to delay having the procedure by educating yourself and becoming more aware of the permanent effects that are associated with hair transplant surgery.

Firstly, you need to consider what hairstyles you would prefer if indeed you do achieve the primary goal of building a new hairline. Secondly, consider how you will heal after a surgical procedure and whether or not the possibility of unnoticeable scarring is consistent with the goal of going undetected as a hair transplant patient. Lastly, search and research what density is appropriate, and ascertain which method best accommodates your individual preferences, but also compare your case to those involving hair characteristics most similar to your hair characteristics and forehead shape.

My opinions are my own. I am one representative of MyWHTC Clinic's European branch.

eeeh im 100% sure i want to get this done asap, ive done a lot of research and i accept all risk that come with it(the risk is if i go to norwood7 bald and i run out of donor hairs, etc) i am fully aware of them all... but theres the chance where i might not go bald at all....(ive really had this hairline my whole life, and i have thinning in that corner only because i constnstly pull at it with the hairstyle i use to disguise my forehead) maybe im just in denial or maybe im not... but id rather get this done now asap instead of waiting, becuz if i don't go bald later, ill be upset i didn't get itdone sooner... n if i do, i'll take care of it as it comes.

Again, i appreciate all your comments, concerns, criticism and advice. I welcome them all greatly!

And yes i have noticed HT in ny is super expensive... im willing to tranvel to other drs including Dr. Path and Dr. Nader.

Here is a picture of my forehead with measurements.

I am unsure about what method to use... i want to do FUT because it yeilds the most grafts, however i heard it doesnt look natural because you are not able to seperate large grafts into individual ones, which makes it look pluggy, bunched up, not natural....

I am looking for results like these that were done to someone who only had their hairline lowered. It gives me hope that it might all be possible.

Personally I think your goals are borderline absurd and that you're destined to be met with a result that is unlikely to meet your expectations; not to mention the fact that if you are indeed balding (and I concur with the others here who suggest you almost certainly are) you'll effectively be committing follicular harikiri.

Take your time, get authoritative analysis done by an expert to determine if you have MPB. If you are still dead-set on a HT, I would suggest a fin/minox regime first and then assess whether your're stable. Discuss expectations with the surgeon in question (I'm betting no surgeon is going to do what you appear to want done) and determine whether you're likely to be satisfied with a more realistic outcome.

There is no rush. :)

I am same age as you (22) and i had a HT at 20. Dont do the same mistake as i did. I need a second hair transplant to acquire the desired density and it completely sucks. I also had no prior hairloss, but PLEASE if your'e going to have a HT. PLEASE go to a recommended doctor. Dont do the same mistake i did and look at the price first, quality after. PLEASE dont.

How many grafts do you want? If you are thinking like a 1000 grafts then I still wouldn't advise it at your young age, but you'd probably be ok....but not sure 1000 will make you happy either.

The risk isn't so much that you will go bald or be a Norwood 7, but what if at 35 you start losing your crown and some hair behind this new low hairline? You may need all your donor hair for front, mid, and crown loss and you may not have enough. Then you will be forced into difficult choices.

Lets say you use up quite a few grafts lowering your hairline now, but in 10-15 years you thin out in front, mid, and crown. You may find your self short on donor hair and will have to "live with" a bald crown, because at 22 you used up too many donor hair trying to lower your hairline.

The reason I worry is obviously your hair is important to you, and as you age it will most likely stay important to you, and if at 35-40 you are balding and don't have enough donor because of the decision you are about to make at 22....well you are not going to be a happy camper.

The hairlines drawn in white are way too low for a 22 year old. Don't make a similar mistake to this kid:

http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/172143-19-years-age-norwood-2-3-there-anybody-out-there.html

If Dr Path says 1800 grafts then he's not planning on the hairline you want.

You should get on the meds and save more money for a couple of years. I had more hair than you at 22 and lost the front half by age 30.

4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013

1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018

763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020

Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

Matt above me is absolutely correct - those hairlines you've drawn in are ridiculous. I would URGE you not to undertake this surgery just yet. He is also correct that there is absolutely no chance you'll get that with 1,800 grafts. I had 4,000 and my hairline wasn't lowered anywhere near that much. It might be worth sending the pictures where you've drawn the hairline to Dr Path to see if that's what he had in mind. I will be surprised if it is.

Despite what you are saying about not experiencing any hair loss, you have had a number of people point out that you very might well be. These are posters on a hair loss forum who are used to scrutinising (sometimes obsessively, I know, I do it too) usually hundreds, if not thousands of pictures. Please listen to them,

If you are absolutely dead set on doing this please at least have someone look at your hair on a microscopic level to determine what is the truth before deciding on anything. I would also say that this is not something which should be rushed into - the mental side of the recovery is NO JOKE. Trust me, I have been through some tough times over the last few months.

The absolute last thing you want is for your native hair to recede and be left with a 'fence' of a hairline with no hair behind it, which will look ridiculous, I waited until I was nearly 27 and I had been on meds for a long time before I decided to take the plunge.

The only way to achieve the hairline (that you are proposing) without using up a significant number of grafts is by wearing a partial hair system. Check out northwest lace. I see a lot of young guys who are wearing on there with extremely low hair lines. Successfully. The average layman would never guess a thing.

A bad decision at a young age is destined to have grave consequences later on in life should you continue to lose your hair.

I am not a medical professional and my words should not be taken as medical advice. All opinions and views shared are my own.

Lowering/creating a hairline 2 centimeters is substantial and would require well over 1,500 for a convincing look with good density. At age 22 I simply would not risk it. I know that is not what you want to hear but using up 1,500-2,000 grafts to essentially build a completely new hairline could lead to serious problems later on if your native hair behind it starts to thin as you will have less donor grafts in the reserve. If the initial procedure fails or yields poorly, then you will have no choice but to use up more precious grafts in order not to look bizarre and you can quickly deplete your entire donor zone if this occurs. I would wait until at least 30 at a minimum and then analyze your options. I know this answer won't please you but you must be careful. All the money in the world cannot replace those finite amount of eligible grafts we have.

Just checked the photos again, you want to drop the hairline much more than 2cm which means more than 2,000 grafts. Don't do it.

Let the doctor decide or recommend. The hairline you want in the original post is WAY too LOW! The density that you imagine you wish to have is unlikely for that area. And for the budget of 8000, not possible for the result you desire. Just listen to us. Please do your research.

Wish you luck. Take it slow, if you want the best result, you may need at least three HTs at least 1 year apart each.
