Growing hair back? - The Big 3 ++ Journey
Shmiggy replied to Shifty's topic in Hair Restoration Questions and Answers
This post pretty much scares me off of having any work done. Might be best to just accept being bald. -
Who was your surgeon?

Still too early. You look to be on schedule for 4 months. Remember your hair was much longer in your before pics so we couldn’t see the full extent of your hair loss. -
Good growing, man! Looking forward to updates.

Still too early. Looks like some growth, but could be different length of hair a bit. -

Sorry my friend. No HT here. I’m a poor candidate with diminishing donor. I was looking at doing a small session with Dr. K. or Dr Nadimi to get a buzz cut look with some SMP. That’s why I was following your case to see what you experienced and how you felt about Dr. Nadimi. I’ve been following these boards and the hair restoration field for over 10 years so I hear a lot about what to expect. I’ve only done PRP so far. -

Sorry, recipient area itch can be those new buds starting to sprout. Have you gotten any pimples in the area? -

You’re still way early in the process. The good news is your donor looks natural. It may be a little thin, but no one is going to notice anything unnatural. Itchy donor could just be those nerve ending finally repairing themselves from the surgery. Make sure you’re scalp isn’t too dry. -
Actually that’s quite similar to what Dermatch does. It brushes on the scalp with a pad that looks like a woman’s face powder application. It leaves behind a dust essentially.

Gil, who’s the fella in your pic? He’s got a nice head of hair! -
I was prescribed a 12 day course of Prednisone along with Benadryl and a Caladryl lotion. It’s subsided quite a bit, but hands and feet are still red and itchy, just not nearly as bad as last week. It took a good 3 days of treatment to get substantial relief. Just finished my follow up regarding the rash post PRP. Nothing definitive can be determined, but he’s seen one reaction in the last 4 years. However the rash was limited to the scalp and lasted about a month. My rash was much more pronounced on my extremities and my scalp now looks normal. He’s going to follow up with the manufacturer as well as the rep for the anticoagulant used in the process. Again it’s quite possible my reaction was coincidental. I’ll let you know when I hear more. The ACell definitely increases the efficacy of the PRP, however PRP without it is still effective. He continued treatments on the previous patient and saw results, just not as pronounced. Of course each person will respond differently.

I’ll see if I can get more info for you. I had PRP with Acell done about 10 days ago. I had a terrible allergic reaction about 48 hours post injections. My doc says he’s seen one other patient that was actually allergic to Acell. With that in mind I go to see him this Thursday and will ask these exact questions. Going to see if the PRP is still recommended without it. I’ll let you know what he says. I don’t believe though the addition of Acell should be cost prohibitive if it is effective.

It’s gotten better, but still pretty raw and itchy. Lots of Benadryl and prednisone to date. I started my first course on Friday. I go back to see the doc on Thursday so hopefully I’ll get some more answers. A quick pic of my feet, which seem to be the worst of it. The injection sites are just slightly red and not too noticeable now. Just a feeling of a sunburn on the scalp. The rest is super itchy.

I went in for my first PRP session with ACell last Friday. While the process itself wasn’t too bad, about 48 hours post treatment I developed an light itchy rash on my scalp. 2 days after that the rash spread to my hands and feet. I am now covered in a blistering itchy rash from my nape to my arms and legs. Just started a course of prednisone. It’s possible this is entirely coincidental, but the doc who administered the injections says he’s seen one case of allergic reaction to the ACell that accompanies the PRP. I’ll keep you posted. Anyone else ever heard of this?

Hair looks great for mid 40s. I wouldn’t touch HT. Save your money. Most normal folks who aren’t obsessed with hairloss wouldn’t even notice your thin spots. -
I was swimming at a college party and a guy there was like “dude, you’re getting a spot on the back of your head.” I didn’t believe it. I’d always had the most hair of all of my friends. It was so thick I had to have the barber use thinning shears to taper the top. Sure enough, got home got a hand held mirror to check the back. Son of a...! Jumped on propecia for a few years and it slowed the progress, but didn’t stop it. By the time I was 30 I thought $60 a month was a waste to not regrow hair. Was a solid NW5 by 40.

Donor Area Receding - Any point?

My guess is he is throwing 1000 grafts in the crown to give a nicer transition. It won’t cover much but it won’t look like you go from hair up front to a completely bald crown. More natural look. It will still be very thin. -

Do you have any photos of the area before you started removing the transplant? Any pre op pics as well? -

I know nothing about that product there. I got the over the counter 1% Nizoral brand at my grocery store. Twice a week use means you basically can get a year out of one bottle. Has a nice minty smell.
