FUE vs FUT

Hey guys, I’m new to this hair loss journey, and wanted to get peoples thoughts on what’s best. I’m about a Norwood 1.5 to Norwood. And I’m on finasteride but I want to even put my hairline. I have an appoint with a doctor for a transplant and wondered what’s the difference between FUE and FUT? And what’s better?

Lower Norwoods usually just get FUE because they're not so limited by donor supply due to their limited hair loss. There's also the potential for no shave procedures. You might consider FUT if you prefer a cheaper procedure, don't mind a giant horizontal scar on the back of your head, are okay with a bit longer recovery, and feel like you may experience more significant hair loss in the future.

How old are you, a Norwood 1.5 at 24 is a big difference between a Norwood 1.5 at 44.

Jesus of Nazareth. What a result.

I suppose this is what 10k grafts plus Hasson's magic fingers can achieve...

I think it’s a combination of the results obviously but also how you style your hair. We should start a thread of the best products to use for styling.

I swear by Aveda, the men’s range. Use the gel combed through damp hair before blow drying, then when it’s dry use the grooming clay to style then a bit of their hairspray to keep it in line, not cheap but the best quality hair products I’ve ever used

Which specific Aveda products? I'm at the stage of my HT journey where I'm playing around with different products. For a while I've been using American Crew light hold gel + some hair spray to hold.

FUT procedure w/ Dr. K (2012)
Second FUT, Dr. K, Nov. 2020 (mini update)
Third procedure, FUE, Dr. K, 03/21, 400 beard to scar (latest update)

Which aveda clay? So you use the gel as a pre-styler?

Same here.  I've been racking up pure privilege points for Aveda the last decade.  I'm a big fan of the pure abundance hair potion and grooming clay.

Dr. G: 1,000 grafts (FUT) 2008

Dr. Paul Shapiro: 2,348 grafts (FUT) 2009 ~ 1,999 grafts (FUT) 2011 ~ 300 grafts (Scar Reduction) 2013

Dr. Konior: 771 grafts (FUT) 2015 ~ 558 grafts (FUT) 2017 ~ 1,124 grafts (FUE) 2020

I highly recommend it, though like @Aftermath said it's expensive.  I'm not under the illusion that it fights hair loss, it just makes my scalp feel good.  Smells nice too, I even drink their tea! 🤣

I’ve paid thousands and thousands of dollars for this hair, trust me I don’t mind the price 😆
