  1. My dad is 1 of three brothers. My dad lost his hair slowly and was a NW5 by age 40. One of his brothers was a slick bald NW6 in his early 20s. The other brother had a near full head of hair until age 50, and then started losing it but never progressed past a NW3. All 3 had the same dad and same mom. So yes it’s genetics but the point is you can’t look at someone’s parents or grandparents and get a true gauge.
  2. I think everyone is different. You can see at the top of my sideburns where mine goes from dark brown almost black retrograde alopecia hair to reddish brown sideburns.
  3. Maybe it’s different for different people. Mine is coarse and wiry and red like my beard hair.
  4. Im pretty sure it’s considered beard hair. I have dark brown almost black hair, but a reddish brown beard. The reddish brown starts right on my sideburns, so presumably that’s considered the start of the beard hair.
  5. Avoid the clinic entirely. The odds of them having one terrible doctor and one great one are near zero.
  6. As others have said, the hairline is too irregular and the density is way too low. You’re going to need a second HT. Just make sure you choose a better clinic next time.
  7. In my opinion, anyone who gets an HT should shave or buzz their hair until the growth is in full gear. It looks terrible when people have native hair at 3-4 inches long then transplanted hair at half an inch long. I think it looks best to buzz or shave it until it’s all starting to grow, then you can grow it all out uniformly. I buzzed my hair the first 3 months, and I was an early grower so once I saw growth after month 3 I then decided to stop buzzing it. Then my hair grew in uniformly and looked good.
  8. Excellent results but the guy’s after pics are cracking me up. 😂 Fully shirtless, drinking something, random animals, lol.
  9. Also in the interest of transparency, the SMP is doing a lot of work hiding visible scalp on the crown. The HT itself didn’t give me the coverage I needed. And I do still have to use comb the hair on my crown just right and then also hairspray just on the crown to ensure that no scalp shows. It’s not perfect but it’s manageable and good enough considering where I started.
  10. Given the price and the fact that it’s turkey, I would brace yourself for disappointment. The fact that they put what looks like a few dozen grafts scattered throughout your mid scalp and crown is bizarre. The way they also just abruptly stopped at the mid scalp is a bit off too. That said, the density and design look decent. The only issue I could foresee is if they angled the grafts wrong or used multis in the hairline, and maybe how the transplanted area segues into the sides at the temples. At this point it’s just a waiting game. In 3-4 months you’ll start to see something and at 6 months you’ll have a good idea of how this will turn out. Any pictures of your donor?
  11. 18 month update, mostly just showing that my hair continues to get longer. My hair is wavy and curly at the bottom so it’s actually a bit longer than it looks in the pictures. Last weekend we were out with friends and some candid shots were taken in super harsh light. No signs of baldness or thinning whatsoever, I just look like a guy with a mature hairline and some temple point recession. I never would have dreamed that I’d be able to have long hair and not look like a bald guy. I think I’m past the David Spade hair length stage and now into the Kurt Cobain stage, haha. My hair is getting super long and in a few more months I should be able to wear it in a pony tail. Some days I still get hair greed and consider another HT, wishing my crown was a bit thicker, hairline a bit lower, and had stronger temple points. But given how good it looks and how long my hair is, I think it just makes sense to ride it out like this and wait and see if I have additional loss on 5-10 years. I’m almost 43 and my hair loss appears to have been stabilized for the last couple of years, so I’m hoping to not get further loss, but just want to play it safe. Since there’s not much to see here I probably won’t post again any time soon, maybe at the 2 year update.
  12. You have a LOT of slick bald area to cover, the areas you do have hair from the previous HTs are very sparse, and your donor area is very limited and doesn’t look the best. If I were you I’d just shave it and get SMP for the scar or possibly for your entire head.
  13. Some HT doctors won’t do an HT if you have SMP, they’ll require you to laser it off first. Of course some doctors will do it with the SMP still there.
  14. Check out my HT and SMP threads. I got FUT on my hairline and crown and got 80-90% coverage, then I got SMP on my scalp and got the illusion of full density. edit: added photo below. Left photo is before HT, middle photo is 9-10 months after HT, right photo is 1 month later after getting SMP. All pictures taken in super harsh light. My hair is even longer now and it still looks good.
  15. I don’t know any closer, but for things like HTs and SMP it’s always a better idea to go with the best rather than the cheapest or closest. I drove all the way from ohio to them because they’re the best in a 5 hour drive radius.
  16. Bosley is one of the worst in the business for everything hair related. Like many people, you fell for the marketing hype. Don’t feel bad, it’s happened to a lot of people. The good news is that it’s fixable. as far as removal, I’m not sure, but any tattoo removal place should work if you’re in the Chicago area, I’d get your SMP rework done at Hairline Ink. They did mine and they’re amazing. It may be worth talking to them first to see if they recommend anyone for the lasering.
  17. An SMP artist may say otherwise, but I’m thinking you’ll need the temples and temple points lasered away, then redone by a better artist. You basically need dots removed, not added, to fix the issue.
  18. I see a few issues here. The issue you’re pointing out with the temple is that it comes down too low and it’s way too rounded. On top of that the temple points look unnatural. You could also benefit from some additional density as the dots are not as dense and dark as your native hair, so the SMP looks half done or half faded.
  19. You are definitely the master of concealment and illusion. And in 9-12 months you likely won’t need those skills any more.
  20. Not to beat a dead horse but wow I had no idea your crown was so bald. Can’t wait to see it in 6-12 months from now.
  21. You’d have to call those clinics and ask them... But generally a top clinic won’t have availability that quickly unless they had a cancellation and no waiting list.
