  1. Not to belabor the point, but I was saying that I thought the OP sounded like a shill not Mickey, whom I do not know. I looked into him and can't say I was all that impressed. That's just my impression, he could very well be a competent Dr. At the time (it's been a while now) I think he was doing other plastic surgeries as well, and I wanted someone who focused on hair, so that disqualified him for me.
  2. No don't bother explaining or talking about what you want before hand, just let the Dr do what he wants. Maybe he'll give you a nose job, who really knows?
  3. Still tough to figure out what's going on with his hair. He's had that same hairstyle for years, weird thing is his hair always seems to be the same length and never changes. Very strange! At least he's a good sport about it.
  4. Be very careful with twilight sedation. One time there was a mix up and the patient thought he was getting FUE and the Dr ended up removing his kidney by mistake.
  5. Carlos Puig? The Dr. originally from Chicago? Do yourself a favor and do a little research.
  6. How do you survive going to the dentist? How about getting a flu shot or a blood sample? Do you run around the office and make them chase you? Getting a FUE procedure is less painful than going to the dentist to get a cavity filled. If you take Valium or Xanax and still freak out then you probably need to see a Dr. for help with phobias. If you can't sit still the Dr won't be able to operate on you.
  7. You can't really go wrong with any 3 of those surgeons. If I had to choose my order would be Konior, Hasson and Rahal. Ray Konior is a tuned in and absolute meticulous surgeon who leaves nothing to chance. He turns out beautiful work time and time again.
  8. If the surgeon is incompetent, there is a chance of over harvesting the donor area yes. Don't choose an incompetent Dr.
  9. The theory was that the incisions would start to close up if the dialtors weren't used making it more difficult to insert the grafts. They were so slow and ineffecient back then that they felt they needed to use them. Trusting them to work on me was one of the biggest mistakes of my life.
  10. Yes he was partners with a Dr. Elliot, who has since retired, and ran a satellite location out of Chicago. Definitely the bad old days of hair transplantation and doing business.
  11. I had this done back in the 90's by a coalition dr's practice at the time, Elliot & True. Once the dialtors were in, every once in a while one of the techs would put his palm over them and press them into my head because they start to work themselves out. It was pretty barbaric. I think I had zero growth and eventually met with Dr. True to discuss the procedure and my being very unhappy. He informed me that my "eye" was untrained and I had perfectly normal growth. He was totally unsympathetic and was quite pissed that I was unhappy, and made no effort to make it right. They also took the donor from too low on my head so for my second procedure (at a different clinic obviously) I was left with another smiley face scar about an inch above the first one. I think the dialtors were actually finishing nails from a hardware store. The doctor that did the procedure in Chciago was Dr. Wentland who was employed by Dr. True.
  12. It's nonsense. Don't buy a laser helmet either!
  13. Yes if your hair naturally grows down and flat to the scalp your surgeon will follow what nature gave you. Some people can grow bangs easily and that will continue for you after your procedure if you have a competent surgeon.
  14. A short burst of prednisone won't hurt you, however the drug is linked to hair loss and a number of other serious side effects in higher doses. Everyone's skin is different and you may just have a fair complection that needs more time to settle down. Slight pinkness at 6 months is not unusual. Although corticosteroids in small amounts aren't a problem the stuff is bad news and I'd avoid taking it even in small doses.
  15. Different docs have different standards and protocols. The concern with someone in their mid 20's who is not on Propecia is that your future hair loss is not predictable. You could have surgery and end up with a net loss of hair a year down the road. You could have permanent shock loss after surgery, your loss could accelerate on its own, etc... Nothing is set in stone in this field. I would advise you to take the time to research who the leading Docs are and how they operate. If you really understand the risks involved in having surgery before your hair loss is stable, then I'd say go for it. Another suggestion I would give is to shave your head and see how you look. You might like the look and decide surgery is not necessary, but once they operate on you be it FUT or FUE you can never shave it slick again without showing your scars. I would heed the advice given by Hasson & Wong very seriously.
  16. You want to take Propecia to preserve the hair that you have, once it's gone it's really too late to start. Rogaine helps jump start the growing process of the transplanted hair and helps the crown. I wouldn't worry about bothering Dr. K with questions, he is your surgeon and that's what he is there for. Corresponding with him is very simple as he is deligent in responding, I'd look to him for answers first.
  17. You're over thinking it. Just go get a haircut, why do you care what complete strangers think? There is something liberating about not giving a damn.
  18. Sorry you had a bad experience, it really sucks, I went through it as well years ago. I live in Chicago and remember Dr. Yates popping up a few years ago in HEAVY rotation on tv with the some slick ads where he was touted as one of the "world's leaders" in hair transplantation and immediately thought to stay away from him and ARTAS. The robot deal never really caught on and had a bad track record overall, many docs tried it and abandoned it. There's another doc with a celebrity endorser who is hitting it heavy in Chicago right now also. On the positive side you don't have a horrible strip scar running across the back of your head (I have two) and you can get more work done by a reputable surgeon. Yates took all your grafts from the back of your head, it would have made more sense to harvest your sides as well to utilize your donor better and the resulting thinning of the area. So basically you have virgin sides that can be used in the future. If you're in or near Chicago I would recommend you pay Dr. Konior and his crew a visit for a consult and he'll give you an honest assessment good or bad.
  19. Just because you don't know the surgeon doesn't mean he is unkown by any means. Dr. Katonah is quite well known in the industry and has been around for about 20 years. He headed up MHR's Chicago office for years. He wouldn't be my first choice by a longshot but he isn't some noob that has just popped up on the scene.
  20. Really? Getting out to Oakbrook is a hardship for you? If you want a script for Propecia just go to your GP.
