If I were you, I'd stay on the Proscar for almost two years before going ahead with surgery. It might not give you a teenage hairline but it could very well thicken up your crown. 21 is very young for a HT.
Just a quick question for you gym rats. Does anyone here wear dermmatch or toppik while working out? I usually wear a skull cap but it does get annoying. I know that dermmatch doesn't easily come off with just sweat or water. But I'm afraid that if I wipe my brow that I would smudge it around the hairline. I'm not the baseball hat wearing type either. Thoughts?
For myself, I am approaching 9 months and am still expecting more thickening and growth. I do have a lot of stubble hairs. I'm unsure if they are new ones popping up or stunted transplanted hairs. If they are stunted hairs, what do I do? Pluck 'em and hope for the follicle to produce another one?
Yeah, I wouldn't go rushing to get a transplant right now. I do think your hair would benefit from some dermmatch right now. But yeah, definitely see a dermatologists.
Greg100,
As you were saying:
"I am now at the 12 month stage and the hair is noticebly thicker now than at the 6/8 month stage."
That is good to hear as I am in the middle of the 7th month and need more thickening!
You should be very pleased. It looks great. Much improved! Maybe another procedure in the future for more density but I would be happy with these results.
Hey everyone. I just posted my seventh month pics on my blog. Check them out. I think I am slow grower but it looks like things are getting better. Let me know what you think. Ciao.

Yes, though Imun didn't receive a great result from Lukasewitz, he at least doesn't look disfigured. But you MUST take pictures to track your progress or lack thereof, otherwise it will be very difficult to tell.
I have also been experiencing new hairs popping up 6 months post op. In fact, I managed to get a pretty big pimple a couple weeks ago in the recipient region. I didn't get one for about 6-8 weeks before that and then BAM! It indeed is encouraging to know that not all of my hairs have popped up yet.
All the advice has been great. But another note. If you do happen to shave down, make sure to stay on Propecia. You might want to grow out your hair again in the future or get a transplant.
You may or may not be ready to show off your scalp 10 days post op. You may be a fast healer. But if you are a slow healer than dermmatch is a must. It is has been my saving grace since I've been a slow healer and grower.
On another note... 3k grafts for a FUE procedure seems awfully large. Dr. Rassman says that the largest FUE session he has done is 2,500. And he pioneered the technique.
As anyone tried a little dermmatch or any other concealer with their facial hair? I was curious the other day and applied a little dermmatch to my beard and it looks to be working like a charm. Just a really thin layer appears to diminish the splotchiness of my beard and it looks more full. Anyone else try this?

From what I hear, dreadlocks can cause traction alopecia (i.e. more hair loss) because of the pulling and tugging of hair. So it might be in your best long term interest to cut the locks off whether you do a transplant or not. And there is no clinical evidence to show that topical finasteride is as effective as the pill form. So I'd get on the real thing first of all to keep what you have left.
