Interesting times ahead with the Verteporfin trial. This could be a watershed moment for hair regeneration and healing!

Good news that Dr Barghouthi is performing hair transplants in London at Westminster Medical Group. Another great option for a proven surgeon in London. Perhaps some more Verteporfin trials also? 😄

So does this mean if we choose to get a transplant with Barghouthi at Westminister, we can request verteporfin (at our own risk)?

I’d be keen to know this information also if possible to have the verteporfin injections when having a hair transplant with Dr Barghouthi at Westminster Medical? Is it possible?? I see Dr Ted Miln works for the same clinic and is getting involved with verteporfin also

Hi guys,

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Just few updates regarding the last trial and some other issues.

1. The patient came back for his monthly follow up. He is doing well in general. The hair was quite long so the photos weren't showing the areas clearly but I did take photos and it shows typical FUE healing although I did feel them to be slower than surrounding ones (similar to how they behaved in the first trial). They still looked red and demarcated, while in other areas -where No Verteporfin was injected- they started to look like typical scarred tissue. I have asked him to come back so we can clip the donor again sometime this week or next week. He just has some event he needs to attend prior to shaving it again. I will take more photos when he gets back so I can share them. I think clipped hair will show the areas better.

2. I am invited to present about Verteporfin in the upcoming WFI workshop in May. Hopefully this will spark more interest in further studies with colleagues.

3. I am considering another trial mostly regarding old FUE scar extraction.

4. I’m also glad to share that I will be doing consultations and performing surgeries on a regular part- basis at the Westminister Medical Group in Harley street-London.

Thank you again for all the feedback

@DrTBarghouthi thank you for considering doing a fue scar revision. I think it is the best step forward as no one will be able to say that there is transection or play of light. Where there is FUE scar there is no hair, so excising the scar and injecting verteporfin would be a really efficient test.

There are a lot of people in this thread claiming to know how verteporfin treatment will work and even how the potential follicles will behave, despite it never being tested. If it hasn't been tested, you do not know. That's literally why we do tests.

At any rate, I've procured some verteporfin and will be starting my own test on myself this week (deep microneedling of the thinning area).

Hey, have you done it yet?

Yes, I started it on Sunday, for a 2cm-diameter section on my scalp.

2mg/mL concentration, 0.7mg/cm² dosage, and then manually microneedled with a 12-pin cartridge. I did it manually so I could press the needles in to their deepest depth, and apply some rotational mechanical force.

I also applied some benzocaine-ethanol solution to take the edge off any pain.

Holy crap man massive respect to you! I’m very excited to see what it looks like in 6 months or a year. Here’s to hoping verteporfin can regenerate some hair follicles!

Regardless of what I think the end result will be, I commend you for taking the initiative.

Are you on any hairloss prevention medication?

Also, do you have a control area? The amount inflammation and growth factors that will come about due to that level of wounding will likely cause some level of hair growth. So even if it works in some capacity, one will be left wondering if it is due to the VT or the wounding itself.

Thanks, and no I'm not on any medication. I've done microneedling in the past, even deep microneedling, with no results and I consider that a good enough control.

Did you mix the Verteporfin with PBS? How deep did you go?

Dr. Behnam purchased the Verteporfin. I hope he gets a trial started asap.

Hey Doc, great update. Please start another trial. The more the better certainly 👍

@Fox243, among us you are the only one who has some communication channels with Dr. Bloxham.

Do you know why he doesn't update ? Did he drop the trial ?

If we see at least some improvement on older FUT scars, it would be very likely that with old FUE scars we can achieve results comparable to fresh FUE.

Even if I knew, I wouldn't be able to share anything publicly that he has not shared.

I feel Dr Bloxham is waiting for 12 months as it takes 12 months for scars to mature. So right move in my opinion. Just three more months.

@Killian hi brother !

Sorry if we on the forum bother you with a lot of requests. I know you plan to update on verteporfin at month 5. However if it works, there should be some early good signs already (as was fast healing at the beginning weeks).

Can you please describe the progress so far ? The whole community will be grateful .

We are 34 days into the current trial.

With the previous one, hair growth was clearly present at day 56.

Fingers crossed we are 3 weeks away or less from confirming the biggest step forward in hair restoration since the release of Propecia in 1997.

Some areas show improvement, other areas less so. There are a few hair coming in on the scar tissue regions, but these are just emerging and can be seen as short/stubby or some fine in calibre. Only time will tell.

I stand by my original expectation of a mixed matrix with fibrous tissue/skin appendeges.
