Hairline enhancement by Hasson and Wong 2600 grafts FUE

I've generally been happy with my hair, but have always been somewhat bothered by my natural hairline. I decided to get a procedure done by Hasson from Hasson and Wong on 5-18-22. My second choice was Konier in Chicago, who I will use for smaller touch ups if needed in the future. I attached some before and after pics below, although it's early.

Also, I found it unusual that most of my hair grafts were removed from the side of my head. Is this a common practice? The degree of trauma was also concerning. What are you guy's opinion on the job on the hairline and grafts as well? He told me that since I have plenty of hair, he thought an extra dense packing on the entire hairline would deliver a great result.

The last pics of the hairline and sides are from today, 5 days later.

Edit: I added the graft chart, that details the number of grafts and types. Is it unusual that the majority of the grafts were doubles for my front hairline?

My impression is that in about 6 months you are going to be one happy man. The amount of grafts used should address in spades the "v" frontal recession and should produce for you a strong, youthful hairline. I think you are helped by the abundant native, wavy thick hair. You were very capable of hiding the recession pre-ht but now you will have more styling choices, Good decision going with a recommended listed elite doctor--dramatically increases your chances of a stellar outcome.

Here's some other pictures of the donor site. You guys don't think it went a little high? I'd hate for them to have got into the hairs that would be DHT sensitive. Not sure of the pattern of extraction, if there is one. Also, it is somewhat painful still and seems pretty noticeable at 6 days compared to some other poster's results. But if you guys think it's fine I'll wait it out lol

I'm sure you will be fine.  It's such quality work.  Even if let's say 5-10% of the grafts were taken a bit 'high' in the donor - if you eventually get on preventative meds (or are already on them) or even if you don't - you may not lose this hair for many many years if at all.

So, I wouldn't be too concerned.  H&W utilize the entire donor zone frequently & take into account donor hair quality & probably look for lack of any miniaturization in those higher-up donor zones and if they are all clear - they take a small % from that area.  That's my guesstimate of what your surgeon is thinking.

Its the exact same as my extractions looked like at similar timeline, you can go through my post I had two transplants with Dr.Hasson and my donor looks great even after a total of 5600 grafts taken out of it.

Day 10 photos. I took these right after I got out of the shower, so my hair is really wet just fyi. I'll post some more in a couple of weeks. There seems to be some thinning compared to what I saw initially before the scabs fell off. However, I did see hairs fall off with the scabs, so there could be many more roots in the empty spaces (I hope).

How much did you lower hairline from the very front? 1cm?

Did Hasson tell you the density he was able to achieve?

The hairline itself was lowered half an inch at the front. The largest space covered was the right side of the temples with 1 and 1/4th inches from hairline to side of the scalp.

He did not tell me the density, but stressed several times he would be going for the most dense pack he could since I didn't have a large pattern of loss and plenty of donor hair. We'll see.

To me this is a substantial number of grafts for a rather minor recession. how old are you ? did hasson recommend some sort of prevention treatment?

I'm 30. I did feel like it was a lot of grafts, perhaps for a dense packing it was needed I'm not sure. I told him my history of hair loss has been slow, bilateral, and that I was born with naturally high temples. He did not recommend any treatments.

Also I'm sure this will be hugely unpopular, but I can not in good conscious comfortably take finasteride knowing the possible risks. There are a plethora of studies detailing these risks. I'm not saying everyone will be affected by the side effects, but the percentages are way too high for me to be as dismissive of them as many people are. There are some links below to published, peer-reviewed studies that persuaded me.

Excerpt: "Subjects that reported new-onset persistent sexual dysfunction associated with the use of finasteride: 94% developed low libido, 92% developed erectile dysfunction, 92% developed decreased arousal, and 69% developed problems with orgasm."

The work looks incredible. I think your extraction pattern looks terrific this early on. I really wouldn’t worry about graft count. That amount of grafts per cm2 is going to give you a very dense look but should also blend in very well with your naturally existing hair. You went to one the absolute best doctors. Following.

*** 3 Week Update***

Seems to be healing pretty well, hairs have started to shed. How does the donor area look? I think it's somewhat thin, hoping it wasn't slightly over-harvested.

His temples went pretty far up, so I wouldn’t call it “minor”.  Think the number of grafts was appropriate

@Axel I'm curious do you know why your temple points weren't reinforced? Did Hasson mention those at all?

He said the temple points looked good and didn't want to make them look unnatural. You think maybe he should have? I'm thinking next year if the density is mediocre in the main areas, I could have Konier add more grafts, maybe 300-400, and I could also do the temple points if needed.

I'm really not an expert enough to say. But it seems your MPB is mild enough, and a great donor to work with, that there would have been zero complications if Hasson did do your points.

But yea I wouldn't worry about it that much, especially if they are good at this very moment.  My intuition is telling me you seem accepting/resigned to needing a touch up procedure at some point in your life, and you can always get them reinforced during the touchup if needed.

Yeah my thought is that I'll see where they are in 5-10 years. Mainly I would be focused on the middle of my hairline when it recedes in 6-12 years depending on my luck. Can't have a hair moat out front lol.

I assumed a touch up would be needed to the new hairline in 1-1.5 years after the swelling is 100% gone. How many grafts can realistically be placed per cm and survive in one session? If it was 85% that of the surrounding native hair that's fine, but is that realistic with my procedure?

***Update Day 47***

Not a lot to update on, but here are some pictures. The temple area has pretty much shed completely. The front area, weirdly, has not and I'm not sure it will. There is still a lot of redness and I am having some issues with dandruff, but nothing too bad. I'll update again at the 3 month mark.
