SMP for Donor Area

I'm looking for a clinic in the northeast or mid-atlantic region that can provide SMP for a thickening effect in my donor area. 

 

I had a FUT procedure back in 2012 and a FUE procedure in 2015. I have naturally fine hair but lately I feel my donor looks thinner especially because I'm trying to have shorter sides and back and longer top. 

I reached out to AHEAD Ink and they said they do not provide thickening service on long hair which confused me because their website says otherwise. Either way, I was hoping the forum can provide some recs.

Interesting. I too would have thought long hair made no difference with regards to SMP... did you reach out to any others..?

Not yet. Honestly the SMP industry scares me with all the botched results I've seen so trying to get some personal recs before simply Google searching.

Sorry, yes I did at one time but do not any longer, my website is need of an update. This particular procedure is too physically taxing on me and my machine.

Can you buzz your sides to get the smp done, then let your hair grow back out?

I know @EvoXOhiorecently had SMP done as a thickening effect. I think he went to Hair Ink Chicago. You might want to reach out to him- his results look excellent!

Also, @Gatsbyhas SMP and seems to know quite a bit about it.

I thought about this too. But if I did grow my hair out, wouldn't the smp be too light to make any noticeable difference? I'm thinking the thickening effect requires more ink than it would to mimick a shaved look.

I’m just looking at your photos and looks like what 1-1.5 month of length of hair. It doesn’t seem your losing too much by shaving to have the procedure.

That looks awesome man! I live in Jersey and really don't want to travel much for SMP if I can find a reputable clinic here. If it were a HT it would be a different story.

Hard to say since I really don't go shorter than this...but there are noticeable gaps when a little shorter than this and it's not evenly spread. The pics I attached are a week and half after my haircut.

This is what confuses me though. I need to follow up with the clinic to see if they would do the thickening if I shaved my back and sides. Not preferred but I don't have a problem doing it.

There are lots of examples (myself included) where SMP density treatments add the illusion of hair even if your hair isn’t shaved. The place I went to has examples from people of various hair lengths. The key is not hair length, but rather making sure you have enough hair density in the area to get the illusion. You need to have enough hair so that you’re just filling in small gaps. Meaning a fully bald crown you can’t do anything about, but thin areas like I have and the OP has would work.

I live in NJ too, and I went to ahead Inc once for the consult, and then when I wanted to book a couple months later, he said he stop doing smp for thickening effect because of mixed results.  

I went to a couple places in NY for consults, but I never pulled the trigger because I never trusted any of them.  I always asked to see how results look in person, and the only one I saw in person was Jonathan Gerow, and his looked terrible.   And his shop is the most expensive in the city.

I don't remember the other office.  

I went to ahead Inc nj.   And 2 locations in NY.   One of Jonathan Gerow, and I can't rember the other one...   It was all white offices.   Very expensive too.

All, just an update, I have my first session of SMP booked for this Thursday, 7/29. Will keep you posted and will share pics. My 2nd session is slated for next Friday, 8/6. Wish me luck!
