Oral Minoxidil vs Topical Minoxidil Which is Better?

I've been using Rogaine foam 5% on my crown for the last several years. Pretty sure its done nothing short of MAYBE maintaining some ground back there. Initially it gave me a pretty big shed then never really seemed to recover. Never used it in the front out of fear the foam could thin it out like it did the crown. Bc of the hype (and my inability to take Fin due to sides), i'm considering Oral minox. I'm wondering though does oral minox cause a shed?

Would be nice to have feedbacks from people taking it.

I've been on liquid/foam minoxidil for about 5 years with no real results, I just assumed it was somehow helping. Recently I've been noticing my middle hairline getting really dry and brittle, and this is transplanted hair. They're still alive, but just getting thinner and whispier with kinks in them too (they weren't always like this).

So I've been on the Kirkland Minoxidil Foam for a couple months but even that has some form of alcohol in it. Considering the oral minoxidil has potential side effects that will go away after stopping medication, I think it's a no brainer for me to test it out considering I'm 30 and don't have any heart issues.

Called my Dr today, she's gonna prescribe a dosage soon. I'll keep an update on this thread.

You can see from the photo below the lighter color/dryness in the middle compared to the other hair.

I've started oral minoxidil last week. 1.25mg/day (quarter of 5mg). 1 week in no issues. Will increase dose to 2.5mg/day possibly in 2-3 weeks.

I actually did about a week ago :)

Early to say, but I will be updating once in a while, especially if I feel there's something wrong.

How are you doing on it Melvin?

I haven’t been as consistent with it, not used to taking pills daily. So I would like to be strict before I comment fully and make a video. But so far so good.

I know I don’t have to use the topical anymore but if I still wanted to would it be okay to use it eod now?

I believe you could use oral EOD and on days you don’t use the topical version. Bro science, but it may reduce sides like puffiness and edema.

That could work too! I didn’t know puffiness was a side effect, we shall see anyway but I’m super exited!

I say be careful. From what I've heard, oral minoxidil half life is only 6 hours unlike topical, which is about 22 hours.

When taking oral minoxidil, it goes out of your body in shorter time than topical, so you might have hours without it. Not sure if this could be a problem, but worth keeping in mind.

So are you still using the topical in this case?

i personally don't. Whether or not you should - IDK. Do some digging & ask doctors.

Considering Oral Minoxidil is been used to bring back to life some hair after Chemotherapy, I'd say it's safe to assume it's much more powerful than topical.

I went through intensive chemotherapy for advanced lung cancer…lost every hair on my scalp and my entire body…all hair grew back without the use of minoxidil or any other drugs.

Now that is interesting, I wasn't aware of this.
