Dr. Paul Shapiro - 1 Yr Result of 2693 Grafts/5193 Hairs

Dr. Paul Shapiro’s patient who had 2693 grafts placed to restore the frontal 1/3+. His frontal hairline & forelock was intact so Dr. Shapiro made incisions surrounding it. Interesting note – the two hair grafts were all planted into coronal incisions, tough to tell if it made a difference. Patient’s donor strip width varied from 1.2cm, 1.4cm & 1.5cm, which was taken in three sections. The donor pics were taken at patient’s 6 months follow up appointment. The donor incisions scar was difficult to locate. Patient is happy with his results and does not feel he needs another session as long as his hair loss does not progress.

Graft breakdown: 2693 grafts = 5193 hairs

1’s – 749

2’s – 1419

3’s – 494

4’s - 31

"Patient’s donor strip width varied from 1.2cm, 1.4cm & 1.5cm, which was taken in three sections."

Janna, what was the reasoning behind 3 different widths removed in 3 sections? Just curious.

It's excellent results for the graft number. Everyone should be so lucky!!

Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily

Avodart 0.5 mg. daily

Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily

5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily

Biotin 1000 mcg daily

Multi Vitamin daily

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? :D

Someone asked the same thing on another forum - here is my reply:

During many cases, our doctors like to take strip in sections as to not get stuck taking out a certain width in case the laxity is not what it seemed initially before surgery got underway. Generally, the middle tends to be more loose than the sides too so the width in the middle section is greater. Dr. Paul started out 1.4 on one side but felt it'd be more prudent to go 1.2 on the other side. The scar line throughout looks perfect.

Spanker,

It depends on the session size and how much existing hairs are present in the recipient area. If the session size is greater than 2500 - then we'd most likely insist on shaving.

SMG should be having some full FUE results coming up that I am really interested in seeing.
