  1. Different docs use different terms sometime ( like Hairpieces almost). You are right to ask questions Take a look at the coalition docs and what they say .If you go with a proven surgeon, you will see most use the same lingo and will have everything explained as well by them. You are in the right place!
  2. Hi Sounds like a situation similar to mine. I started receding around 21ish and by 23 I had a Caesar cut and was follically challenged. Propecia wasn't available back then so by the time I was 24 I was using concealer ------- I would most likely speak with your doctor and consider Propecia ( or cut the pill of Finasteride which is the best to do) and start with Nizoral and thickening products. See where that goes as it stopped my loss Of course today I had had 4 HT's and still on Finasteride and I enjoy a nice head of hair. Don't sweat it, if you decide to take Finasteride it will probably stop it Happy Holidays
  3. Concealers are great and got me through over 10 years of hairloss with maybe 2 or 3 people ever knowing I used it . I remember my mother giving me 2 towels "one for my hair" (and then having to clean the brown stuff) So glad those days are over but they really work!
  4. Back in the day I would just rinse my hair with water and leave it in (I'd use a little hairspray after brushing). It actually worked well for me and my hair is a bit on the drier side as well. Many people do not wash their hair everyday .
  5. Nizoral is good stuff but it dries out my hair. The best stuff I have found is to use Fructis triple nutrition moisturizing treatment 2 x a week. Good stuff!
  6. Dermatch is great for short hair. If you need more coverage you can use Couvre'.
  7. Its tough to say. Most people do have recession when they age ( unless you are one of the few who get the perfect head o hair for life - insert Ronald Regan) My hairline started to recede in my 20's and then - BOOM I hit 24 and it was down hill. Other people recede but not lose their hair unlike my situation. At this point, relax and keep an eye on it . Does hairloss run in the family -
  8. First of all, you have some good growth ahead if you are at 8 months ( I just hit 1 year for my FUE). Each procedure I have had people have commented that I "look" different. People think I got a nose job, lost weight, new haircut, whatever.....The funniest is the comments are on who I look like as far as celebs. When I had little hair , all the celebs they brought up were with little hair. Now ( 6500 grafts later) I always get celebs with great hair. Nuts how it changes perceptions - So cool to have been on both sides of the coin. Even seeing people with hairloss and the things they wear, do .... I don't forget where I came from!
  9. Regarding Scalp exercises. I remember years ago the debate on this with some docs pro and the others saying it had marginal value. I had 2 procedures with Dr. True at the time (4 total to this day) and we discussed it . I believe he said I could certainly do some exercises but don't expect too much from them. Fast forward to the procedure he was actually vey surprised how much "looser" the scalp was and we were both pleased as I had the largest yield of the 3 FUT's (4th was FUE). Personally, it did help me and I felt the recovery was a bit easier with less tightness in the donor area. Hope this helps
  10. You can do a lot, just take it easy (and I would'nt play contact sports yet)
  11. I hear ya At 23, my hair started to fall ( which means it probably was doing so for years). Hats were next and by the time I was 25 I was using concealer regularly. It certainly puts a damper on your "youth". The good news is at 43 now, I have more hair than I did 20 years ago Those days are over!!!
  12. Hi I kept all of my procedures under cover. Of course this depends how many grafts you get (and if you have to shave your head). Just keep the back and sides longer to cover the donor area and use concealer about a week or so after (per your post surgey instructions) Jobi
  13. I love hearing all of the rationalization of what causes hairloss ( from the average Joe). I myself had this thought process and really stuggled with these crazy thoughts
  14. Also remember if you want to "hide" your procedure, be sure to allow the hair on the sides to grow significantly longer ahead of time to cover the donor area. I did this on all of my 4 procedures (including FUE) and it worked very well. In combination with some concealer (Dermatch is my favorite), you can be very conspicuous about your Ht's!
  15. I can honestly say I have not seen this "delay" in my progressive procedures. Actually , I just had my last (FUE) and at 2 plus months there is a distinct improvement. I kept many of the grafts and the crown area is now lacking that "shininess." Ironically it is also suggested the crown takes longer to grow than other areas. This too has not been the case with me. That said, I exercise regularly, eat very healthy and take vitamins everyday.
  16. It takes time to heal #1. I have had 3 FUT's and I just have my stylist trim the sides and bad with scissors and it works like a charm. I get it cut very short without any issue I never understand the majority of people so concerned with "buzzing down" their sides. In my mind, the whole purpose of a HT was to have a normal haircut. How many 30 -40 year old professionals are walking around with crewcuts? If buzz cut is the focus then yes, FUE may be the answer but it is very expensive and generally small in terms of graft count.
  17. Personally I like dermatch with the applicator. With a bit of artistic touch, you can fade the hariline and add less or more based on your needs
  18. Hi I think it is important to stress the different between a full head of hair and the illusion of density. I have had over 5000 grafts and have the illusion of a full head of hair. Of course I cannot style it 100% in every fashion but I do very well. With realistic expectations and the right characteristics, you can get a very good result
  19. Happens to the best of us. Donor area and recepient area.
  20. Not doubting any potential effects as metioned in my mail My point is the many posts where the person is claiming all sorts of outlandish side effects from the drug, many of which they report within a day or two. Any drug or vitamin can cause certain reactions For the record, I have been on Finasteride for over 10 years and have no problems.
  21. I always chuckle when I read the proposed "side effect" of Finasteride . No doubt any drug may have side effects but I always say "you can make yourself believe anything". The same faulty thinking which suggests "my" hairloss is from Shampoo, stress, hats, etc. is repsonsible for many of these "side effects". I'm not saying there cannot be any however people tend to always look for "Causality" and many times will automaticaly assume events to "fill the gaps"and give their mind an explanation.
  22. Hello It is easy to attribute many factors to hairloss however I would bet it is simple MPB. You are on the right track with Propecia as this will slow/stop the loss. Wait a year and then see where you are
  23. Looks good! I waited about 2-3 months post op to continue weight training.
  24. Hello I had some shockloss from FUE but it is all part of the process. Further, the "U" shaped buzz needed to grow back as well so concealing both were an issue. I used dermatch and kept the surrounding hair a bit longer prior to surgery.
