  1. You should not have to pay money for a consultation. Surgeons will usually take a look at you for free and determine if you are a candidate for a HT. If there are clinics that are charging you for a consultation, run away. Use the recommended hair transplant surgeons list on this website and do further research on who is the best for you. Also many people who have gone through hair transplantations on this forum will provide priceless advice to you completely for free. We are like a family here and take care of our own.
  2. I was provided a sterile staple removal by the clinic (don't live near them). Has anyone let a family member take out your staples? Instead of paying $100+ to see a doctor/nurse/etc for 5 minutes. Seems pretty easy.
  3. Hell yes. A person with a decent donor can harvest an average of ~3,000 grafts. Very likely. But not from just one surgery. May require two to satisfy your expectations. And possibly a 3rd if you continue to lose more hair on top. When choosing FUT, you will no longer be able to buzz cut your hair without the scar showing. The shortest I believe you can go is a grade 3. You can eventually hide your FUT scar after you've decided you no longer want more transplants in the future with an FUE procedure. Or you can choose to do an SMP. The surgeon will be the best person to answer that question after inspecting your scalp. Most likely he will start at the front third or half of the scalp and fix your hairline. The second will cover the back/crown area. With multiple transplants, you can choose to not take any medication if it affects the quality of your life.
  4. When going in for FUT hair transplant, keep in mind that you won't be able to rock a buzz cut without the scar showing. I believe the shortest you can go is a grade 3 to cover the scar. I will find out when I trim my hair in 3 days. After understanding this, also know that when you decide to stop doing hair transplantations (after your 3rd or 4th or however many you decide to), you can do an FUE at the end to fix your scar and put grafts in it. There's also SMP as an option.
  5. I would take a buzzed haircut over a shiny bald head any day!
  6. You should post pictures of your hair so we can give you feedback. But before I decided to get a HT, I shaved my head just to see if I could rock it and like it. I did not. So I got a HT.
  7. I just wanted to make sure from people with experience: When is it safe to do like a grade 2 or 3 buzz cut with a trimmer after a hair transplant? Currently, my hair on the sides and back are still long. And my transplanted hairs on the top are super short. Is 14 day post-op safe enough to self-trim?
  8. I just edited my post with more info, check it out. Yeah you can scrub the donor area properly on day 1. You can start applying more pressure on the grafts on day 4 with your fingers.
  9. I never used post-op spraying. I just used cups to gently rinse my hair for the first week (mixed with shampoo and water). Pat dry the donor area. Air dry the graft area. Wore button-up shirt or zipper jacket (no crew neck t-shirts). On day 9, I went into actually scrubbing the scabs off and using the shower head on my grafts. Typically your grafts are pretty much secure after the first 3 days (requires actual surgical intervention to pull them out). And by day 10, they are 100% anchored and secured.
  10. Update: Dr. Bloxham actually recommends to start normal washing and shampooing on post-op day 4. I was hesitant at first with what everyone else is saying and waited till post-op day 9. I was able to scrub/remove so many scabs and now my scalp feels softer and cleaner! I did not bleed at all. Removing scabs is better for the healing process.
  11. I am post-op day 8 and have some white scabs forming around my grafts. Is it safe to scrub my grafts with shampoo tomorrow morning and rinse under the shower head? Or continue to pour water with cups? Also when I tried peeling a scab off, a hair follicle was attached to it. Is this normal? Or did I take out a graft? (no blood followed). Or are they just dead hair follicles attached to the scabs?
  12. also that's still pretty crazy that we will still have numbness at the recipient and donor area 2.5 weeks out! I wonder how long it takes to regain normal sensation in the whole scalp like we were before the surgery.
  13. Is there a difference in the healing process of the scar? I want to take my staples out as soon as possible (10th day mark), but if there is a benefit in waiting 4 more days, I would endure it.
  14. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, I really needed to hear this and be reassured that i'm not the only one going through the same symptoms. Is there a difference between removing staples at 10 days vs 14 days? I really want to take them out as soon as possible (10th day mark), but I also want to make sure that my scar has the best healing possible and would tolerate 4 more days if there is a benefit.
  15. is it common to have numbness to your frontal scalp/mid-scalp area where the grafts were placed?? Because I have numbness there and above the incision line at the back of my head.
  16. when did you start sleeping down (with belly towards the bed)? I miss wearing crew neck t-shirts and sleeping in comfortable positions (but obviously don't want to dislodge any grafts).
  17. [I'm just looking for a timeline from others' experience]: How long after the surgery until you start feeling normal again (like you were before surgery)? how many weeks/months does it take? when does the pain, tightness, and numbness go away? when do you get your normal sensation back? I'm in post-op day 5 and the back of my scalp still tingles/burns/stings. It is also numb in certain areas. The staples hurt like hell at night and can't sleep properly due to positioning & putting pressure on the staples. My scalp is still feeling tight.
  18. I am 26 and decided to get a HT, knowing that I will need at least two more procedures in the future. If you do decide to get a HT, just make sure you have a long-term strategy/plan and realistic expectations.
  19. Getting my first hair transplant in 2 weeks. What is the best time to buzz cut your hair after the transplant? 2 weeks later when you go for staples removal?
  20. I've done PRP with Dr. Arocha and did not see any improvement. Maybe it's just me, but it's not worth the money in my opinion considering I paid a little over $2,000 for the procedure. Since then I've consulted with other hair transplant surgeons and I've been advised not to do PRP anymore. (Maybe because I have an aggressive/diffuse hair loss that it's just not worth it long-term). Just stick to oral medications (finasteride - if you are lucky and don't get side effects) or solely hair transplant (acknowledging you may need to undergo multiple surgeries to keep up with the hair loss).
