  1. Not sure on the number of rows but when I had mine done I remember the doctor asking the techs for 400 and something singles...I'm guessing this was for the hairline...I was pretty drugged up and tired.

Yeah, But that cannot be through out right ? I mean to then have a fuller look, to add density after a point say first 1-2-3 rows he may want to use 2's and 3's and 4's to add density right ? Cannot be just 1's right from the beginning till the end !!

  2. I am aware of the thumb rule in creating a Natural Looking Hairline is to use single hair follicle in the frontal hair line, but I am not sure how many rows in a hairline should have this 1’s (is it only First 2 rows) because to add density after a point a lot of 2’s and 3’s hair follicle will have to be used right ? so till what row from the frontal beginning is a single hair follicle required ? any Thoughts ?

I know a lot of people would say the HT Surgeon who I am gonna get it done from would be best to handle this, but as a Patient undergoing this procedure even I need to educate myself as much as I can about this…

  3. Augustya,

You should not use toppick immediately after the transplant, you should wait between 7-10 days for the scalp to heal and be free of scabs. It will effect the healing process of the skin in the early stages and should be washed out every night so your skin gets a chance to breath.

Different doctors may have contrasting opinions of course.

Ok so how about in 3 weeks time after the scabs have fallen ? is it safe using then ? what is the safe time to start using a Product like Toppik after a Hair Transplant ?

  4. Hi Guys,

I had a quick question, after someone has had a Hair Transplant, is there a restriction on not to use a product like toppik if yes till how many days? I was thinking maybe I will have to star using toppik to camouflage my frontal hairline took the grafts grow... I am only doing a hairline job. Does using products like Toppik cause any obstacle in the hair grafts growing ?

  5. Hi Torip,

Taking an issue with your point #2.

You have every right to form an opinion about a Surgeon or Surgeons but brushing an entire nation of over a billion people with your "general rule of thumb as being "less honest than Westeners" .......sounds kind of racist to me. Not sure which Indian IT companies in the US you are referring to. As we all know, US law is a pretty strict and no-nonsense law.......it has no tolerance for "fake and dishonest individuals/companies". Dishonesty exists in every corner of the world. Can we please not point fingers here. If you say that there is less accountability in the entire South East Asia region (including India), I will agree to that. This forum pertains to hair loss issues and treatments. I am sure that this is not the venue for insulting a country, nation and/or ethnicity.

    Thanks,

    California

Had it been in my hands "California" I would have Reccomended the Indian Government to grant you an Indian Citizenship for your such encouraging words for this country :)

  6. I had an HT 4 weeks ago and everything has been pretty good so far. However, something has just got into mind and this is freaking me out.

In my post-op instructions I was instructed to use Aloe vera gel two times a day starting from day 5. Since I was using my fingers to dab the Alove vera on transplant areas, before the Alove vera application I washed my hands, and then sanitized my hands with an hands antiseptic (hands sanitzer) let them dry for half a minute or so and then dabbed the Aloe vera on my transplanted area. So good so far.

But I just happened to check the ingredients of my hands antiseptic (hands sanitzer) and it mentiones that it contains Denatured Ethanol. By Googling, I find out that Denatured Ethanol is actually alcohol. This is freaking me out that the alcohol-based antiseptic on my hands while rubbing Alove vera may have killed my grafts. Any opinions? Or is this just a paranoia and am I worrying needlessly?

Ok, Firstly I am not done with my HT yet, so I have not experienced it as yet but I can tell you on basis of what I have read. First Post 4 Weeks you are out of the danger period my gut feeling says the most critical phase is 2 weeks as after 2 weeks one can have a direct shower on the head and start having a gentle hair/head wash. So frankly speaking your grafts are in much better position post 4 Weeks.

Your second question on the alcohol based antiseptic may have killed the Hair Grafts is Practically not possible after 4 weeks. I mean hair grafts dying is more likely possible during the transplanting procedure By your surgeon, technicians and there are other technicalities to it. Your Scalp not being conducive for a Hair Transplant is also one area that the Book of HT talks about but that is the rarest of rare possibility. So the alcohol in the antiseptic that you used can (if you still wanna hold all your fears true could at the most cause a scalp irritation) But not killing of hair grafts Not possible in my humble opinion :-) Rest ONly Time will tell. Just forget it and hope for the best !

  7. So I'm going to go ahead and post an attachment of Dr. Rahal's post op instructions, because over the years on the forums I have seen countless patients from Dr. Rahal experience early growth and forum members commenting on the magic formula that Dr. Rahal has to produce this early growth. From my HT prior to Dr. Rahal I can say that his post op instructions are quite detailed, intense, and conservative which I believe beyond a doubt contribute to the many cases of early growth seen coming out of the Rahal clinic.

Agenteye, if the clinic has a problem with me posting the post op instructions just hit me up brotha and I will take it down. I just think from all of my years researching hair transplants, Dr. Rahal has the most definitive well thought out post-op instructions leading to early growth and graft survival in the industry I have seen.

Fantastic Job Mate ! This is Excellent stuff...Appreciate your kind gesture :D

One thing I didn't understand in this document is sleep at 45 degrees what does that mean ? I mean what position is it? I generally have a habit of sleeping on my stomach with my stomach facing down on the bed so does 45 degrees mean sleeping sideways on one side like your one hand/elbow touching the bed ?

  8. It's a pain. Main thing is keeping head and scar clean. Frequent daily spraying with saline and washing twice daily. Plus, applying ointment on scar. Taking it easy with no heavy lifting and depending on size of procedure, you will likely look aweful.

But it's all worth it in the end :)

So this spraying saline daily and applying ointment on the donor area how many days does this needs to go on ?

  9. I had this question posted on one another website and one of the HT Doctors happened to give this explanation...

"What a great question - and a complex one too!

Fortunately, poor hair growth following hair transplantation is not something that happens very often. But when it occurs we need to explore many, many possibilities, including patient factors, physician factors and scalp factors:

Patient Factors - including proper care of the grafts. Occasionally, one hears stories of patients scrubbing their new grafts off the scalp at day 1 post surgery. Of course this is unlikely but one needs to think of all things in this category. The other patient factor that is important is smoking. Occasionally, smokers have poor growth for reasons that are not completely understood. Other factors one might think about under patient factors are medications that impair hair growth or cause excessive bleeding.

Physician Factors - including overly tight packing of the grafts (too tight, too packed can lead to poor growth) improper depth of grafts, rough handling of grafts by technicians, harvesting of grafts, temperature of grafts. All these things are important. Sounds like your friend was very lucky to have a great and experienced surgeon so these issues are not likely to be contributory. But these are the things to think about in the "Physician Factors"

Scalp Factors - this is one of the most important categories. Some scalps (because of excessive sun damage or other factors) may take up grafts less efficiently and this leads to poor growth. Some scalps bleed more than others are this can rarely impact growth due to post operative "popping" of grafts. Infection post surgery can impair growth as well. And finally some patients have scalp diseases that are either present before the surgery (but could not be detected) or some patients develop new scalp diseases after the surgery that impairs the growth of the grafts. This is rare but in a busy practice, it is something that is seen from time to time. For example some individuals rarely develop alopecia areata or rarely develop scarring hair loss problems after their hair transplant. These scalp issues can impair growth partially or completely. A scalp biopsy is sometimes needed to diagnose these problems.

As you can see there are many, many possible reasons and only with a careful evaluation and a bit of "detective work" can the reason usually be figured out. Your friend will want to meet with his surgeon to review all the possibilities and possibly have a biopsy if the surgeon thinks it would be helpful."

  10. August,

The "X" factor is something that comes up occasionally on the forums. I was going to bring it up earlier (as a potential cause for why a hair transplant would never grow), but I figured the rarity of the condition didn't justify making you (or any other members) unnecessarily anxious.

Essentially, the "X" factor represents an unknown variable inherent in a patient's physiology that simply prevents transplanted hair from growing. In my opinion, it is probably related to something like a lichen planopilaris; which is an inappropriate immune/inflammatory response from the scalp surgery that prevents the grafts from growing. It is quite rare - I found one article that noted 17 recorded cases of lichen planopilaris after hair transplant surgery -, so I'm not certain how concerned you should be (aside from understanding that the phenomenon exists and anything is theoretically possible).

Seven centimeters is a realistic hairline height, but it is a value used when rebuilding/recreating a hairline; not lowering an existing non-affected hairline. If the grafts don't grow, then you would likely need to figure out why and try to fix the situation. However, before discussing/analyzing this, I think it may be important to take a few steps back and possibly explain why you want to lower your hairline and provide some images of your current hairline. This will help the community evaluate your situation and offer accurate advice.

Thanks Blake for your detailed response, so you are saying the possibility of this is very rare like one in thousand cases, but my worry is what if am that 1 out of 1000 case

So anything one can do to not let this happen before doing the HT and before doing the procedure...

I have been on this forum since last 6 months or so I have already shared my pics in my earlier posts :) people here have suggested that I am maybe Norwood 2 or 3 and that yes, I do need a hair transplant (I mean one could obviously live without it) because it is not a life threatening situation but aesthetically if one feels in my case it is advised.

  11. August,

The above replies discussing hairline lowering are excellent, so I won't comment about this issue. However, I did want to state that I think the chances of a modern, state-of-the-art hair transplant - performed by a trusted physician - not growing at all are slim.

There was this case here of a person who was operated upon by Dr.Bhatti (Dr.Bhatti is also world class in his own right) and he faced this problem. His Hair Graft never grew, which even left Dr.Bhatti perplexed and then he did some Skin Biopsy or something to diagnose what went wrong. I don't know the exact details but that is what the case was somewhat.

People here are confusing that I am planning to do a aggressive hairline, no I do not plan to get done a very aggressive hairline. It is gonna be lowered maybe upto 7 CMS distance from Glabella. But if this thing happens that hair grafts do not grow ? What are the corrective measures to be done then ?

  12. One thought that really scares me in going for a HT especially when I am only doing it to lower my hairline, which means I do not have a crown which is bald or my back or my sides nothing this is just to lower my hairline and I came across one case here where the person even after undergoing the HT the Transplanted hair never grew in his case. Whoa !! That's dead scary !! Especially in my case when I am doing it to Lower my hairline, imagine how will it look on me, a certain sq.cm of area on my scalp with some tiny holes, instead of enhancing my look further it will hamper my appearance and put me in minus ?

So what are the chances of this happening Guys ? Any advice ?

  13. Without being judgemental here I don't know why but suddenly HAIRGUY'S comments have started making sense and have started gaining solid ground !!

But I still really can't beat it, why would Dr.Umar do this ?? I mean there is no real reason for him to do this. It sure cant be negligence with the amount of fame he has achieved !! Nor HAIRGUY is his enemy. So it is really baffling what's going on here...

  14. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the inquiries. I have not posted any updates since July as I felt my hair growth had plateaued. That said, attached are some recent pictures. I have been keeping my hair cut to a shorter length. The transplant with Dr. Bhatti has definitely built a solid frontal hairline for me which is nice. I wish that I had enough donor hair to fill in the density on the top and crown area of my scalp + repairing my two FUT scars... but I do not think I have enough donor hair.

Let me know if I can answer any questions!

Why in your donor area there is a strip kind of Mark left is this also the case if one does a FUE vs FUT ?

  15. I thought I would post some more natural pictures I recently took along with a few of my before shots!

    enjoy!!!

From the situation you were in, Pre HT it looks good but I still think your hairline is still placed high it could have been a tad lower. I have seen some of the pictures posted here of Dr.Bhatti's work. In my opinion all of them are still high it can be a little lower maybe by just a cm but Dr.Bhatti is placing his hairline higher infact quite higher ( According to the formula from your eyebrows which should be 7-8 CMS, it looks even higher than that) I am not complaining about the quality, but the length in my opinion is too high considering the person is undergoing a HT. Again it is my opinion.
