  1. Bobby love the videos. Keep it up, they are interesting. Personally I would only have a hair transplant from a doctor that has his/her entire practice dedicated to hair transplant surgery. Most of the top hair transplant doctors don't do anything else. Just because someone "has been doing hair transplants for 12 years" really doesn't necessarily mean much. For example if they have been doing hair transplants for 12 years but only do 1-4 procedures a month compared to the top doctors doing several a week the skill level is just not going to be the same. Also a doctor that is 100% dedicated to hair transplants is going to usually have a deeper, more skilled staff of experienced technicians. Skilled, fulltime, experienced technicians are vitally important in the over-all success of the surgery. A doctor doing hair transplants part-time as just one of many services he offers would not be on my list. A small nearly empty office would also scare me. This is something you will spend some serious change on, and will have to live with the rest of your life....save discount coupons for something else and go with one of the world class hair transplant surgeons.
  2. Not at all. No more than I hate brushing my teeth everyday for the rest of my life, or taking my multi-vitamin everyday for the rest of my life, or wearing shoes everyday for the rest of my life, or buckling my seatbelt everyday for the rest of my life. We do things everyday that in some way provides something we want and don't think twice about it. People with high blood pressure or acid reflux take a pill everyday..a lot of people take an aspirin everyday...whats the big deal about taking a pill everyday for hairloss? I've never quite understood the "oh my you mean I've got to take Propecia the rest of my life"?
  3. For me it's mainly about returning to the point of having something to work with. My hair was always very important to me. However it has been slowly thinning for 20 years. I have done a heroic job of making the best of what I had, but as time marched on.... it became more and more of a difficult task. I have in the last 3 months even graduated to concealers to try and hold it all together. And BTW I am actually kind of surprised at how well the concealers work. But I knew with the need for concealers that something was going to have to change. It become apparent that the road ahead was staring me in the face with 3 realistic options: #1. Go back to Hair Club....which I had tried for a short time. (hassle & fake) #2. Basically shave it all off & embrace a balding super short cut. (scary as hell) #3. Get a 4500-5500 graft hair transplant. (my choice) It's funny how all of us have different goals and I suppose that's natural depending on where we are along the hair-loss journey. The young guys in their twenties want their "full thick mop back" and many of us older guys just want something that we can work with again. Give me an "illusion of density", something I can work my magic with and I am going to be happy as can be.
  4. I also had read some horrible things on the internet about Dr. Sam Lam in Dallas/Plano, Texas. None of the negative reviews (that appeared to me to actually be made by the same person) were signed. All anonymous. Notice this is the very first post of this poster slamming Dr. Lam. Sure it could be legit, but worth noting it was the first post. To be honest after seeing the negative reviews, I thought about cancelling a consultation appointment with Dr. Lam a couple of years ago, but since he was right here in the Dallas area actually near my house I went anyway. I came away from my consultation impressed with Dr. Lam. He was a good listener, very patient, educational, had a very nice office/staff and was quite open about the internet bad reviews. Basically he stated he had an unhappy patient whose apparent mission in life was to make life miserable for Dr. Lam. I since have made an appointment with Dr. Wong of Hasson/Wong, but the main reason I did not go with Dr. Lam is he doesn't do hair transplants full-time and offers many other cosmetic services. I wanted a doctor that does nothing but hair transplants, but I do think Dr. Lam gets some nice results.
  5. Sounds like my adjustable bed will be helpful for something besides curing my acid reflux!
  6. 1800 + 2500 = 4300 grafts before he is 30 years old 1800 + 2000 = 3800 grafts before he is 30 years old
  7. The problem is....with his already "balding at 29 or even younger genetics" will he still have "so much hair in the front" 15 years from now when he is a relatively young 44 years old? I would be careful in preserving as much donor supply as possible. Already at 4300 of a limited donor supply at 29 years old with a very uncertain future is something to think about. I am sure he will be thrilled for awhile and I sincerely hope it works out long term. One thing working in his favor is even if he gets low on donor hair in his forties I predict by then this field could be revolutionized with new technologies, discoveries, and procedures that are unheard of today.
  8. Scar5 is it widely accepted as fact that "shockloss" is much more severe in the crown area? I was not really aware of that until your post and just want to make sure I am correctly reading your input about crown shock loss vs shock loss else-where.
  9. Thanks again Dutch, after seeing so many outstanding results Hasson & Wong is achieving for patients I am not worried. Hasson & Wong has their playbook and appear to be one of the leaders in this field, so I have complete trust in them.
  10. Thanks Dutch, it's not really a major concern vs the great reputation Hasson and Wong carries. I do know Dr. Ron Shapiro says in his video he never schedules more than one procedure a day per doctor. Just curious when you had your surgery did the doctor have more than one procedure going at the same time as yours?
  11. Wow Shane....thanks for the witty but very informative story of your experience with Hasson & Wong. Lots of great info. I have recently set an August 2012 date with Dr. Wong so I was happy to see you share such detailed information. Besides your overall glowing report about Hasson/Wong my only question/surprise/concern is about "Dr. Wong being in the middle of another procedure" on your surgery day. I was under the impression that Dr. Hasson and Dr. Wong only schedule one surgery/one patient per day per doctor. Do you know if it is common for them to be involved with procedures with more than one patient on the same day?
  12. And in my mind he is the "King of the Crown"....no pun intended. Dr. Wong just seems to do outstanding crown work.
  13. Yes I would be curious as well? since I just set an appointment this week with Dr. Wong for later this summer
  14. Not really until I read you had extreme pain during your procedure so it made me curious. I actually had a small transplant about 13 years ago so i am somewhat familiar with the routine. But since mine was so small compared with today's standards I thought maybe pain could play a larger role in mega-sessions due to pain killers wearing off in such long sessions. Sounds like you are saying you are the rare exception having that much pain due to your body's reaction to the drugs.
  15. Thanks for the clarification Bonker. How many days passed until you had the staples removed?
  16. How common is this with large sessions? Anyone else experience "extreme pain" or even increased pain towards the end of a large session due to the pain killer wearing off in such a long session?
  17. Talented people who push the envelope are often chastised. "hey you can't do that....no one else does!" "that's not the way it's done around here" "thats never been done before!" Some lead....others follow. Hasson/Wong & several other top doctors lead the field. 2EachHisOwn....
  18. have not heard of it..... http://www.nuhairproducts.com/dhtblocker.aspx
  19. Baldone.....study these videos: Interviews with our recommended hair transplant physicians
  20. I just started using Nanogen too. I do not shower or wash mine out before bed. I shower at 5AM every morning so I cant see how 6-7 hours is going to make a huge difference. Have noticed zero stain on pillows thus far. But I am new to this and will let you know if my routine changes. BTW....this Nanogen is amazing stuff. I even bought some for a friend with a very defined small bald spot on his crown. He has black hair. I showed him last week how it works and after we applied it the dude almost got emotional how well it worked. I mean his bald spot was freaking GONE! The only issue I can see is upon extreme close inspection someone might notice something is up, like if someone was standing right over you at the office looking over your shoulder at your computer or at a sporting event sitting on the row above you, maybe in the dental office chair...but in like 95% of circumstances it seems it really works great....I am quite happy how well it works.
  21. I would ask things like: Does the doctor/staff only perform surgery on one patient a day? Does the doctor do hair transplants on a full time basis and what percent of the practice is hair transplants? How many full time hair technicians does the practice employ? Since the tech's skill level is very important, what is the techs level of experience? How long have the techs been doing this that will be working on me? How long has this doctor been doing hair transplants full time? Will the doctor doing the consult actually be the doctor that performs my surgery? Here are my general expectations.....are they realistic? After looking at my hair, what do you envision as the long term plan? Will I most likely need more than one surgery? How do you rate my donor hair? Do you offer discounts on grafts after a certain point like many cliincs? Like first 2000 grafts are $5 per graft, after that they drop to $3 per graft. Will the clinic be able to see me the following day to check and shampoo the first day post-op? Does this doctor prefer to shave or cut down my hair for the surgery? Can you give me a brief tour of the facility? (so you can get a feel for cleanliness/professionalism/quality) Are there past patients I can talk to and/or meet?
  22. Whoaaa....those are some great results with Dr. Rahal!
