  1. One thing about your age is you are so young that I predict huge strides will be made in the hair transplant field by the time you are in your mid thirties and possibly losing more hair.
  2. Looks good to me. It's possible down the road you could go bald, but it appears that could be years away. If you have some minor thinning I suggest getting a really good skilled hair dresser to possibly change your style to bring out your best. So many posters on this forum would die to have hair like yours. Relax, get on Propecia when you first start to see any more thinning.
  3. Those are my exact words I say to myself about when I stopped taking Propecia for 7-8 years. I would give anything to have those years back being on Propecia. I had almost zero crown loss. None, nada. Then I went off Propecia for several years and boom there went my crown. I am confident had I stayed on Propecia my crown would be much fuller today. Instead of just dealing with frontal loss now I have both...and crown loss prevention would have been so darn easy by taking Propecia. Oh well....
  4. Dutch I checked out your post op pics. Your donor area seems kind of high on the head which would be better for hiding with a cap. How long after the surgery did you get the staples removed from donor area? And how long after was the donor scar covered with hair? I am considering a similar number of graft surgery...maybe even a few more...with Dr. Wong or possibly Dr. Shapiro.
  5. I think we may all remember the first time someone said to us "wow...are you starting to lose your hair?". I was much younger than I am now and so ill-equipped to handle that moment. It was terrible and I wanted to find a hole to dive in. I can remember at a high school reunion several years ago a particularly mean spirited female classmate said to me "whats that baseball cap hiding?" without hesitation I smiled and asked her "what that makeup on her face was hiding?". Today I feel totally at ease talking about my thinning hair, but it certainly was not always that way.
  6. Never thought about that.....good point. I have some "fitted" baseball caps that are not adjustable thus don't have the hole in the back...I wonder if a size bigger fitted might work well and hide scar 100%?
  7. Thanks Dutch. I plan on wearing a loose fitting baseball cap when in public for 3 months, at least I hope I can do that.
  8. Thanks Dutch. To be clear, Dr. Hasson cut your sides down when he shaved the top? Are there guys that are not pre-op slick tops that post-op actually walk around or go back to work with the sides long to cover the scar and have the top shaved? Also would you say most of the scar would be covered if you could wear a loose fitting baseball cap?
  9. I was curious why so many guys don't shave their hair down quite a bit right before they go in for their transplant? I see so many pictures of day one post op where you can see the surgeon shaved down the top and the patient is left with longer hair on the sides that looks rather ridiculous. Wouldn't a buzz cut of some degree at least match up somewhat better? What is the primary reason patients wouldn't stop by a barber shop a day or two prior to the hair transplant surgery and get their hair buzzed down quite a bit so that the sides dont look so crazy the first few days after surgery? Wouldnt it be better to not have to fool with getting the sides cut after surgery? Is it because they want the surgeon to see and get a feel for how they look with their hair? I am sure there must be a reason and I was just wondering. Thanks guys.
  10. I bought one of those expensive laser combs and saw zero results over a 2-3 year period.
  11. On the Hasson/Wong site it says the price is "before tax". Actually I was unaware there is a tax on a medical procedure. Does anyone know how much the tax charge would be on say a $16,000 procedure in Canada? And is there tax on this surgery in the US as well?
  12. Can you explain why would you be "terrified" of Propecia?
  13. Looks good to me. How's your crown? It's possible with a slightly high forehead that your future could hold some thinning, so I suggest like the others stated get on Propecia as soon as possible. And stay on it, many people stop taking it because they don't see any new growth. But think of it more as a tool to stop or reduce new loss than regrowth. Afterall if you can "stop the bleeding" that's half the battle.
  14. I have never heard of such, except getting a part time job where all the money is placed in savings toward a HT. If I was "low income" I'd wait tables or mow lawns to gettter done.
  15. gstar....one other thing to consider is getting on Propecia (Finasteride) as soon as possible. I was on Propecia in my thirties and didn't see much new growth so I stopped taking it. But what I didnt realize is even if you dont see a lot of new growth it allows you to at least hold on to what ya got. So after being off it for a few years I then noticed my crown was in trouble. I am back on it now every day, but I wish I had not stopped taking it, because I would probably not have lost nearly as much of my crown. I suggest getting on it and staying on it to greatly slow any new loss and hold on to as much as you can.
  16. gstar, not sure where you are, but the link below is a wonderful resource in learning about hair transplantation as well as finding a great HT surgeon. I know I will just end up at one doctor, but I am trying to watch each and every video because each doctor brings something different to the table in the way of education for us the patients. Watch them when you have time. Patient education is vital to have a happy result. Interviews with our recommended hair transplant physicians
  17. gstar....well it all depends on your particular hair-loss. Make an appointment with on one of the best surgeons and get a consult. A good HT doctor can educate you on your options. Some guys just seem to lose hair at the crown, so they can eat up much of their donor hair and not have to worry as much about having to balance the donor hair between front and back. Age plays a big factor. If you are in your 20s-30's a doctor is usually more conservative with donor hair because you have a finite amount and since the doctor cant be sure what type of hairloss you will have 10, 15, 20 years down the road...they want to save some donor hair for future needs. Here is a video about crown transplants, but be advised this is not really about donor supply and the crown, which you should discuss during a future consult with your HT doctor.
  18. gstar...you are correct the frontal region gets the most attention and focus from the doctors. Most good hair transplant doctors are concerned about donor supply. A crown can eat of lots of donor hair. And a balding crown can continue to grow even after a transplant leaving a donut effect. So usually the surgeons try to "frame the face" with hair at the front because that is where most people look at you and notice. Of course age, donor supply, level of of over-all hair-loss all play a factor in the game-plan. But there are doctors doing great crown work, in fact that is one reason I may go see Dr. Wong of Hasson & Wong. Just from what I've seen he seems to be very skilled at crown work and I am sure there are others.
  19. ok...add another large grocery store to the list of no Nizoral. ordered some on-line this morning.
  20. Kind of surprised today when I tried two pharamacies, a grocery store and a Target.....none of them had any Nizoral. A couple of them had the shelf space for it because I could read the little shelf tag but it was all sold out. Is that typical?..go to 4 places and none of them had it? I suppose I will order on-line.
  21. Just curious if anyone else has ever experienced hiccups after hair transplant surgery? I had a small hair transplant back in about 1997 and I remember on my several hour drive back home the next day I kept getting the hiccups. I have the end/all hiccup cure so it was no biggie, but when I got home I read in a hair transplant book that hiccups sometimes appear post op but soon subside.
  22. I am buying my first Nizoral tomorrow so I await the answers as well.
