  1. As I recall, there was a pretty recent 10-year study showing that finasteride(propecia) was effective for the length of the study, with a low risk of side effects(and the side effects that did occur were minimal). Finasteride has a pretty strong clinical backing.
  2. What does countasian mean? Like...caucasian?
  3. Set up a consultation with a reliable hair transplant doctor. That's where you'll probably find the best advice. David gave some good references; I personally would recommend Dr. Gabel (I've seen nothing but really good work from him on these forums, although I haven't seen his eyebrow surgeries).
  4. That is sacrilegious. Pitt's hairline is the best. I know we want to say "oh, it's subjective, there is no best", but that's wrong. The best is Pitt's.
  5. Makes sense to me. I know it's early yet, but are you still feeling good about the progress?
  6. Plus, it's really cool to have an aloe vera plant around that you use. And they're easy to take care of.
  7. This is good to hear. I've been interested in biotin for a while, but haven't seen much evidence to back it up. I'll probably give it a try soon. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  8. Like others have said: get on Propecia, and be prepared to spend a lot of time researching and reading these forums.
  9. While this forum is good for general questions, the best option at the stage you're at is a consultation. A lot of HT docs offer free consultations--try to find one who seems honest(these forums help with that) and see what the doctor says about what realistic goals you can have.
  10. Using a shampoo that's sulfate free accomplishes this nicely. Sulfates are what's used to cut grease from dishes; it wreaks havok on your hair.
  11. People definitely laugh at acne. I don't want to make excuses for people making fun of balding; it isn't right. But I think there IS and explanation, and it's that non-balding people find balding to be a pretty inconsequential attribute. To them it's goofy rather than traumatic. Of course, we understand the matter differently. But one can see how without experiencing balding, people don't understand how traumatic it can be.
  12. A lot of people also suggest taking a biotin supplement; there's a pretty good amount of evidence to show that it helps to keep hair healthy.
  13. This is just speculation, but do you think the difference comes from Gabel's treatment or from your body? I'm just wondering what the cause of the difference might be.
  14. If it's really bothering you, check with your physician. It can never hurt to get a professional opinion.
  15. "Whey protein contains nothing which causes hair loss. But, what you have to remember is, protein (any protein) coupled with weight training increases testosterone, which increases DHT, which in individuals cursed with balding, will make them balder – if they aren’t taking a DHT blocker such as Propecia. If you are training and eating for muscle, it’s inevitable your testosterone will increase, and if you have the baldness genes, your hair loss will increase. You then have a decision to make – do you stop training, have a Mr. Average body and just slowly watch your hair fall out over a longer time period… or do you continue training, build a great body (and enjoy doing so) and maybe run the risk of losing hair quicker due to higher DHT levels? That’s your choice. If you’re going bald – you’re going to go bald anyway, sooner or later. Why agonize over it? Also, I’m no doctor, but my logic is this: Get an appointment with your doctor and get on Propecia." So the answer seems to be that there IS an effect. But I imagine it differs from person to person, as our biochemical makeups are all really varied. It's kind of impossible to answer whether or not DHT is reduction "cancelled out"--but it's certainly affected.
  16. Good luck--I don't have any ideas for how to treat those bumps, but I hope it all turns out OK.
  17. I think this is a great idea. But as David said, it's a huge undertaking, one that requires a lot of time.
  18. Good luck Ireland--it's a long track and sometimes hard, but most of us think it's worth it.
  19. Like Migel said, retinoid creams--usually labelled as containing "retin-a" are clinically proven to help rpevent wrinkles.
  20. Also, I don't think most non-balding people know what a big deal hair loss can be. It's really devastating to see part of how you identify yourself disappear without having any control over it. People who don't experience it just don't understand.
  21. This is great news. Scientific progress is always slow to become practically viable, but it's good to know that in the future hair loss will most likely be curable. Unfortunately, it's too late for most of us who post here.
  22. Like others say, there's no sure dietary thing. Biotin is supposed to be helpful, so that and a multivitamin can never hurt.
  23. I thinks speeg's advice is especially wise. Working on hair loss prevention is a long and sometimes frustrating process. Go into it knowing that it isn't always easy.
  24. Figured I'd chime in with everyone else: this looks great. You picked good docs.
