What happens to a lot of posters?

Recommended Posts

If I'm happy with my results I will be like a girl with a new boob job wanting to show off the improved me to anyone that will look.

Just make sure you are showing off your hair and not your boobs. I don't think you'll get many who are interested in seeing that icon_razz.gif.

I think you'l be ecstatic with your results my friend. Just hang in there icon_smile.gif

lots of us have lurked around here for months and even years, lots don't join until they have definitely decided they are going through with the ht procedure. Only then do we decide to join the site and ask the nesessary questions. this is selfish, and I know firsthand as I was definitely one of those people however plan on staying around as long as I can be of any help to future posters.

Whether our results turn out to be good or bad we owe it to this board and the people who put long hard hours into answering our questions and giving us all this very valuable information that we get here. Especially for us newbies, just post ht, who get such benefit from hearing from the experts here and give us that little bit of positive feedback that we need and long, to get us through the harder times to come as we wait for the results of our surgeries. For better or for worse I plan on staying around and hope I can help even a few people along the way. People do not fully understand know what this board has done in the advancement of hair transplant and imagine what it will do in the next 10 years. It has encouraged excellence in practice with in all honestly only the internet and this site and others like it has been able to achieve. It has told fly by night hairmill operations that we will not tolerate sub-par practicioners and you better get your A+++ game on or you will not make it in this industry. so help where you can, don't disapear because you got what you needed from this site, help a few others first!!!

it seems to me that posters dissapear from this site because they are unhappy with their decision and when they make a post about it their posts are removed and they are banned. just my observation.

botchedinati,

If you are going to make this kind of accusation, I expect you to back it up with evidence.

We've been very tolerant of the fact that you do nothing but attempt to discredit this community because you claim to have had a bad hair transplant. Yet despite member's attempts to get you to post your photos so we can see why you are so bitter, you do not.

We are very proud of the fact that only a select few members have been banned over the years and the only time threads are removed, is if they are unsubstantiated or other good reason. Patients are welcome to share genuine experiences here whether they are good or bad. There is plenty of evidence that we allow this simply by using the "find" feature.

But should we allow you to continue to post on a number of threads and do nothing but spread lies about our community?

botched,

How could it possibly seem to you that is the case? Have you spoken with any of them?

I can tell you fellows, as the hair starts growing in and one becomes his old self; it gets less and less interesting. I admire those who stay around with a nice looking head of hair, but some of us spend so much time here initially, it just becomes necessary to move on to something else that will deprive us of our work productivity throughout the day... icon_biggrin.gif

I am finding myself posting less, for mostly that reason. And, another fact is that after several months generally a lot of the same questions and topics repeat themselves; because there are always new people online.

"Yet despite member's attempts to get you to post your photos so we can see why you are so bitter, you do not." Learned this a long time ago about internet hairloss forums. Any one can say anything on the internet. You need to show your complaint photos and history from start to finish so we can see what you are unhappy about. This was one of the first sites I signed up for in my ht research. I don't post that much anymore since I had a positive ht and maybe I don't agree with everything posted. But I do check in from time to time and see who is doing what in the ht world.

I think people move on 6 months to a year after surgery because they think a lot less about their hair. That's the case with me. Prior to my surgery and the first 4 or 5 months afterwards, I never missed a post. I read everything. Now I check in once a week or so. I want to keep my weblog updated and contribute from time to time because I think it's important to give back and help others make informed choices.

It's great to hear from so many members on this topic. It's definitely important that we all have a life apart from hair forums, but I'm glad to hear that many of you check in from time to time and offer your valuable input.

Oh and just for the record, Botchedinatl did change his tune on another thread and even apologized for being snappy. On a new thread, has asked for genuine help. He did say he intended on posting photos so we could see where he currently stands, but I don't think he's posted photos yet.

Nah--- I'm headed toward 2000 posts here over 5 years--I think that's more than 1 a day.

Plus with all the other forums I think I have 4-5K total so I'm pretty happy with things---the message hasn't changed--do research, meet patients in person, try to get the best deal when you narrow it down--if you feel funny or doubts, don't do it.

I'll be happy when you catch me brother,

For me, the reason I stopped posting was because after a while, there's really nothing new to learn. Wait till you're older, FUE won't leave a scar but is pricier, your erection will come back - just stay on propecia, Bosley sucks and laser combs don't work.

There's only so long you can rehash the same old topics before you get bored. For me, at least, that's what it was.

Whats wrong with staying on and helping the guys that arent as knowledeable then you.

There are alot of different reasons to keep posting well after youve absorbed everything.

New guys register and ask questions every single day.

The search feature eliminates alot of new posts but its probably nice to see up to date answers.

Younguy,

So in your opinion, what could we do to spice things up and keep long time dedicated members interested in sticking around, at least, every now and again?

Let's face it. We all should have lives outside of this community, but we certainly like experienced veterans like you to participate in discussions every now and then and offer your expertise icon_smile.gif.

Welcome back by the way icon_smile.gif

I think its a variety of things. I just last week asked a man who was almost a year out, to go back on the forums and describe his experience. He found me through the forums when I just started using them and I know that he blogged a bit in the early recovery phase.

I also know that he is happy, as he emailed me and asked if I wanted to see him as he was surprised at the result in under a year(which will only get better over the next 4 months or so).

So when I asked him if he would go back on the sites he told me "maybe in a few years when and if I need some more work", but that now he doesn't feel like he has any reason to go on the sites. Says his free time is now occupied by all kinds of activities, like basketball, swimming and dating. I told him that while I might take some credit for him having more confidence and dating more, that the other activities weren't the result of his hair. He disagreed, saying that his increase in confidence is allowing him to pursue things he hadn't done in years. I told him THAT is exactly the Cinderella story I wanted him to share online...not just for my practice's benefit, but also for the benefit of some guys out there who are trying to decide if they want to move forward.

He said he appreciated the work, but had "moved on" from the hair forums.

That may or may not be representative of why folks quit the sites, but I would guess it is some factor for many folks.

I used to post on some guitar sites when I was getting back into guitar playing, to get tips etc. Then after a few months I found that it was more fun to play than post. Same deal with hair sites I imagine.

None of us really want to be here

We post our experiences and concerns, because we seek help and support. When we get through it we'd rather forget we went throught it.

Does anyone go back to the Doctor to thank him for the medication that got us over the flu?

I'll post my results to the end but as most I'd rather not have had to consider the issue of hair loss at all

This is happening in almost all specialized forums. If you go back every month, same questions resurface with different titles.

Hi stamos,

It is true that a number of the same questions resurface, some even relatively frequently. But this is the nature of a real time forum that attracts new members and guests all the time.

We do have a "Frequently Asked Questions and Discussions pinned thread that we can continue to add to however, even then, we certainly don't want to eliminate any posts, even if the same question has been asked.

The exciting part of a forum is for members to interact with one another and to get real-time help when needed. Once suggestion might be, instead of typing a long response, to simply link to another forum topic that has a number of replies and invite the member to join in. I've been doing this for years, and though some have criticized me for it, it was a lot easier than typing the same response over and over again icon_smile.gif.

Pat and I do have some exciting things up our sleeves that will hopefully add some fun and entertainment to our educational community. So stay tuned icon_smile.gif.

But members who regularly contribute to this forum and dedicate a lot of time and energy to helping others know that the real value comes from the intrinsic knowledge that we've helped people transform their lives and acquire a new-found confidence from restoring their hair.

Best wishes,

Bill

Questions may remain the same, but the people behind the questions don't.
