Spraying Post-Op

Does anyone else get paranoid about the spraying? I've been spraying but I'm thinking now I haven't sprayed generously enough, or maybe I have. How important is to totally soak every inch of the recipient area every few hours in the days following the transplant.

The spraying in my opinion isn’t necessary. Just follow your instructions and no need to be paranoid.

I didn't spray mine at all tbh, just regular shampooing from day 3 or 4 onwards.

I had my transplant 2 days ago and I still haven't shampood yet. How important is to start shampooing at the soonest juncture post-op. In my doctors instructions it says to start shampooing the day after surgery but many sources here say they didn't start shampooing until day 3 or 4, and I'm paranoid about touching the grafts, so I'm thinking of waiting another day before I shampoo.

Cool man. You really think its not neccesary? Its a wonder why some surgeons stress the importance of it. HRBR reccomend generous spraying and they say its super important to keep the grafts hydrated.

What is the deal with salty water, why don't they reccomend regular water? I'm asking because I'm paranoid I haven't put enough salt in my refill 😂

Salt water helps with recovery and infection and all round cleaning. Did you not get given saline, do you have to make your solution?

I would say shampooing is important because you need to help the scabs fall off but that probably won't happen until day 10+. The best advice I can give is to follow your post op instructions from your surgeon, regardless of what anyone else may say.

I was given a saline solution but it ran out so I refilled but I may not have put enough salt into my refill. Is the salt really mostly just for infection?

I can't speak on behalf of Dr. Saifi mate but generally it's used for cleaning and to help the healing process. Just follow his process and if anything concerns you drop them a msg. Do they have a WhatsApp etc?

I never used post-op spraying. I just used cups to gently rinse my hair for the first week (mixed with shampoo and water). Pat dry the donor area. Air dry the graft area. Wore button-up shirt or zipper jacket (no crew neck t-shirts). On day 9, I went into actually scrubbing the scabs off and using the shower head on my grafts. Typically your grafts are pretty much secure after the first 3 days (requires actual surgical intervention to pull them out). And by day 10, they are 100% anchored and secured.

Ok man thanks very much for that. I'll do my first round of shampooing today. I don't have many big scabs up there yet. I'm also super paranoid about touching the grafts or applying too much pressure to them so I'm a bit scared of washing this early, but it has been reccomended so I'll do it. I don't think I'll massage shampoo into the recipient area. Do you gently massage the recipient area?

I agree with @Kruchiehere. We will all give various advice depending on our own experiences. Always best to follow your clinics advice.

Cool. Thanks. In that case I'll start gently shampooing tonight. I'll do it with extreme caution.

They have email and they're good at replying so maybe I'll email him :) I seem to be doing ok with healing and staying clean at this stage. My main point of interest with the spraying is how important it is for growth. Some say its of utmost importance for keeping the grafts hydrated because if they're not kept hydrated they die.

Cool man. I am going to do my first mild shampooing tonight. I'll do it with a cup and water. I think I'll let it run off my head rather than rubbing it into the recipient area, and likewise I'll let it dry naturally in the air instead of patting it with a towel. I'll scrub the donor area properly though.

I just edited my post with more info, check it out. Yeah you can scrub the donor area properly on day 1. You can start applying more pressure on the grafts on day 4 with your fingers.

I know exactly how you feel but you'll be fine, just do a gentle massage all over you scalp with the shampoo for now, you can use more pressure around day 10 onwards. Use a cup to rinse the shampoo off for the first week or so, then you can use the shower head. I think we all felt paranoid about touching the grafts in the beginning but you'll be okay, try not to worry.

Happy growing. 😊

I just read your post there man. Interesting. Cheers. I'll probably not touch the grafts for another two days so, I'll just let the shampoo-water dribble off it and I'll let it dry itself instead of touching it with a towel. That's cool about day 10. Do you reckon once day 10 is over the rest is faith? No matter what you do beyond day 10 won't effect the new growth?

Thanks man. Naturally I just want to be super safe so I get good growth. I already had two little bumps to the head and it drove me mad. I'll use the cup and gentle touching method up until day 10 bro.

Here are what my instructions look like. I've been told to spray every 2 hours for 7 days. Shampoo comes in only after that.

Cool. Interesting. I've never seen instructions like that before. Its weird the way everyone's instructions are different isn't it 🙈

I bought more saline solution off amazon I think it was like £6-7 for a litre with prime. It was called Baxter 0.9% sodium chloride my Dr confirmed it is fine it was the same as the label on the one the clinic gave me. I just did a few sprays until it started to run down my forehead and wiped the drips away.

After 10 days unless you apply the shampoo with a pick axe there's not much you can do to affect them 😂 they are anchored and growing. The main thing you can do is maintain a good diet and drink plenty of fluids, as the saying goes 'a farmer wouldn't plant seeds in bad soil' and the same applies for follicles. The only other thing that affects hair besides DHT is nutrition. Eat well, take supplements and enjoy watching them develop!

I know, tbh I've been contemplating about the shampoo after 7 days part. It's only day 3 and my heads starting to stink.
