Finally Sick of it!

Hey guys, i really dont know what to do. When i was 17 i Joined the Army, Shaved heads were standard and it was then the lads said i was receding already, albeit minor. Back then i didnt really care, i ignored them and i genuinely believed it was just my natural hairline shape.

Anyway the years pass, i reach 21 and it gets a lot worse and the realisation sets in thats its MPB :(. I decided to bury my head in the sand and hope that it stops, naive i know but i just didnt want to think about it. Im now 22 and i absolutely hate. Im getting sick of it, i hate it so much and the way it makes me feel. It makes me so depressed and im sure like many of you all i can think is, why me? Why has this happened to me? I go to the hairdressers and see guys in their 40's with a full head of hair, and im sat there 22 years old receding. Lifes a bitch.

Ive decided its time to do something about it, first thought was surgery but after doing my research i realise this wouldnt be a good idea at 22? This leaves me with little to no options.

Buzz cut! A big no from me, i love my hair and look ridiculous with out it.

1mg propecia and nizoral 2%? Do you guys think this is the way to go? Its sad i know but i just dont feel like i can confide in people i know about this as i dont think theyd understand.

I hope you guys can advice me correctly, so thanks in advanced. Here are some pictures of my hair, taken today. I think im a NW 2/3?

I would suggest propecia and monoxidil. You seem between a 2 and 3 to me.

Actually, I think you have pretty nice hair. Get the loss stabilized with meds and a good cut and your good to go. I know this is not helpful but just maintain perspective. To me, your hair is basically a full head of hair. Sure, your juvinile hairline has changed but so what. My brother receeded like you at 20 and then it stopped and he has great thick hair how with a nice mature hairline.

I was going to start propecia 1mg daily? Going to purchase it online as I don't know whether I would get a prescription from the uk.

Can you recommend where I can purchase minoxidil? Is this basically rogaine?

What do you think of nizoral 2%? Worth it or just minoxidil and propecia?

Contact SPEX he will sort you out ,you can trust him 100%

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Sorry I'm new to all the abbreviations and stuff

Thanks for the reply mate. Sadly I feel the only pictures that show off how bad it is are the ones where I tilt my head forwards. I just hate it, everytime I catch my reflection in something, the feeling drops in my gut and reminds me how much I hate having this hairline.

I don't know my biological father however what I remember of him from when i was young is that he was bald lol! Well he had a skin head so it must have been bad enough for him to shave his hair off. Thank you for the positive words though.

You right life is a bitch and unfair. We have been all through that phase. First step is acceptance of this unsavoury discovery ! And then start to take action and deal with it !!

You should look in to meds to stabilise your loss. I could never condone propecia due to personal experience but its a totally personal choice and understand some people dont get too extreme side effects. Totally personal decision. Minox Nizoral, Saw palmetto. Trial and error and see what works for you.

One thing is as you get slightly older i must say it becomes less painful thing to deal with. But Guys in their early 20's i know it can be totally devastating.

Then look at a HT maybe 4/5 years down the line to restore your hairline shape once you have it under control. Look on the bright side. You have noticed it early. Most guys dont deal with it until they have lost way more hair than you. You are ahead of the game in that respect.

While you do have some recession you still have a nice, full head of hair. I bet if you went to see a proper stylist you would be much happier. I would grow it out a bit longer first and then get something a bit more hip. This would require you going to a salon--not a barber shop. Most cities have salons just for men if you are not comfortable going to one.

He clearly stated that he is not interested in a transplant just yet, so I'm not sure why people are suggesting to speak to Spex. Spex is a representative for Dr. Feller who is a very good transplant surgeon based in New York and I believe one other doctor. If you want you can speak to him and see what he has to say, but honestly i would hold off on the surgery for now.

Anyway, the good news is that you caught it fairly quickly, I started taking Propecia at age 22 and at almost 27 my hairline is almost the same as it was at 22. If you have no severe side effects then you should keep what you have for the foreseeable future. The other good news is that all current hairloss treatments work well in the crown area where you still have plenty of hair, so if you manage to keep what you have a transplant down the road (5+ years) will get you a full head of hair.

DepressedB-

Cheer up pal! Like everyone else here has already mentioned, your hair looks great.....and you shouldn't be self-conscious about it at all! I know it is hard to see a recession in your hairline, but as Can't decide has mentioned, it looks as though you are just ending with a more mature hairline.....the rest of your hair is still very thick and full! I think hairthere offered you really valuable advice as well.....go see a stylist to help get you sorted out with a new look! You'll be surprised at how pleased you can be using the hair you have in the hands of a proper professional.

Anyhow, chin up!!! I promise it looks a lot better than you think! =)

Keep us posted on what you decide to do along the way.....

Best,

Mike

First of all thankyou for all the kind words. Its nice to hear that some of you don't think its too bad, even though in my head it is, lol!

Im still not sure what to do, Ive said im not keen on a HT only because ive read that it is not wise to get it done around my age, ive no problem with actually getting one, ive just read its best to wait until i am older. To be honest id love it if i could just pay someone some money now, have surgery and have a perfect hairline for the rest of my days!

Im really unsure about the finasteride idea now aswell after reading that it makes a lot of peoples hairline receed more and only sorts out the crown area? Its really put me off!

I have also read that finasteride doesnt work as well as propecia? I have read this over and over yet it is the same thing? One guy was taking propecia, switched to fin for financial gain and his hairline got worse.

All these things making the decision alot harder and making me want to bury my head in the sand again, like i have done for the past month :(

Thanks for all the advice.

Hi

Sounds like a situation similar to mine. I started receding around 21ish and by 23 I had a Caesar cut and was follically challenged. Propecia wasn't available back then so by the time I was 24 I was using concealer -------

I would most likely speak with your doctor and consider Propecia ( or cut the pill of Finasteride which is the best to do) and start with Nizoral and thickening products. See where that goes as it stopped my loss

Of course today I had had 4 HT's and still on Finasteride and I enjoy a nice head of hair.

Don't sweat it, if you decide to take Finasteride it will probably stop it

Happy Holidays

Your hair is great...you will benefit huge from propecia and rogaine...

Also, with the shape your hair appears to be in, I really dont see you as a high risk as having surgery in a few years..

Finasteride will not make your hairline worse. If it does become worse it's because MPB in the temple region is usually much more agressive than anywhere else and Fin is not able to keep up. That's why all of the currently available hair loss products are most effective in the crown and midscalp region.

You might experience an initial shed which will make you think that you're losing more hair due to Fin, but just keep on taking it because shedding especially in the beginning is normal. Those hairs usually come back thicker and stronger.

So you guys think finasteride is the way forward? Im just worried that it will make my hairline worse?

Silly... Your hairline will probably benefit from propecia. Use propecia and start using rogaine foam on your hairline too. It will help as well.

The irony in hairloss is it gets worse before it gets better (generally speaking) . Whether it is meds or HT's , you have to get through the inital phase in order to get better

No doubt it is worth it!!

Ok, I'm just going to bite the bullet and do it! If I order finasteride this is the same as propecia?

Finasteride and Propecia are the same thing. Propecia is just a name brand and marketed accordingly. Usually fin comes in a 5mg tablet and most guys cut it into quarters and take 1.25mg per day. Propecia comes in 1mg tabs. Finasteride is dirt cheap if you get a prescription and buy it from a place like Walmart.

Got my pills today, woohoo! The guide says to slowly introduce them in over 7 weeks, is this what everyone does? Took my first one today. Okay apart from I'm getting a chest pain in my left hand side, I hope this is a coincidence!

If you're thinking about HT, I would recommend FUE, it is less invasive that the FUT, doesn't leave scars and ensures satisfying results. For medication treatments I would recommend you Renew Skin & Health Clinic, a friend of mine had a FUE hair transplant with them and was very pleased with the results. Look into their website, and also they have clinic branches all over England. Hope it goes well! :)

Cheers!
