Regular Member shahswap Posted January 3, 2012 Regular Member Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) Hello Everyone, I am 26yr old male, who started losing hair in past 2-3 yrs. I went through my first HT on Dec 28th, 2011 at Dr. Mysore's clinic in Bangalore. Even though he is not on list of doctors on this forum, he is reputed and experienced doctor. I have attached my before and after pictures. I had 1200 1 Hair, 900 2 Hairs and 500 3 Hairs transplanted, adding up to 2600 grafts and 4500 hairs. He took 27cm x 1 cm donor strip. As you can see in pictures, doctor brought my hairline forward, filling up frontal/parietal/vortex portion. He said that my top or crown area still has good portion of hair and he feels medicines will help to make it better or atleast retain what I have. He prescribed me Finax 1mg tablet and Hair 4 U 5% spray/lotion for long duration and Folliderm tablets for 3 months. He recommended Hexilak gel for sutured area for 2 months. (1) I will like to know your opinion on how it looks and what shall i expect in 6-9 months? Do you think I will need a surgery in Future? (2) Do I need to use the gel for sutured area only for 2 months? Is there anything I can do to reduce the scar mark? (3) Are this medicines/lotions, etc normally used available in US over the counter or do I need doctor prescription for it? Thanks. Edited January 3, 2012 by shahswap
Senior Member Spanker Posted January 3, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 3, 2012 This is not going to give you great coverage but it will be a good start. I would probably go ahead and plan another pass. I am an online representative for Dr. Raymond Konior who is an elite member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians. Regular Member shahswap Posted January 4, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted January 4, 2012 Thanks for the reply. You mean in front portion it won't give enough coverage? Or middle and crown area where he didn't put anything. I have never used any medication normally used by everyone. I am starting to use it now. So, I want to see how it looks 9 months to 1 yr from now and then plan further surgery.
Senior Member orlhair1 Posted January 4, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 4, 2012 In 6-9 months you should experience most of your growth although it takes a full yer to see your final results. With the number of grafts you received over a pretty large area, you will see a big difference, but it is not likely going to have a dense appearance. As Spanker said, it is a good start, but you will probably want/need another surgery. Senior Member southbeacharchi Posted January 4, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 4, 2012 I don't want to repeat, so...ditto to what they said above. But, if you are in no rush, it is not going to hurt to give this a full year, and in the meantime try Propecia or cheaper Proscar 5mg which you have to divide into 4 pieces - and Rogaine, to see exactly what level you can get to with the HT you already completed and through medication. Then, with your doctor reevaluate and see if another HT is what you want. Best Wishes. Regular Member shahswap Posted January 4, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted January 4, 2012 Thanks for your reply...This is what my doctor has recommended too..He is hopeful that medicines will help with remaining area where there is no transplant as he feels hair is still not completely lost in this area...But results of medicines is not as predictable as the HT... Also, 2600 grafts are not transplanted in complete front portion. If you see picture, there is a big circle in center where I still have my original hair...Still it might be over big area.. Anyways..thanks for response..I will keep everyone posted with my progress..
businesspro Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I am a newbie and plan to get a consultation soon. I would think that 2500 grafts would be enough to see a significant improvement. Then again, I am no HT specialist but I am concerned about what other people are saying here on this thread. Does this mean that he will need another surgery sometime in the future, to get a more denser look? How many grafts is one supposed to get, to get that dense look.
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted January 4, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Work looks ok. Smart of you to get on finasteride - stay on it! I've never heard of gel being applied to the donor area post-op (except bacitracin for the first couple of weeks). Just let it heal naturally - unless your doc says something else. You'll definitely need another pass (both in the frontal third and behind it) but that doesn't mean this transplant was a failure. Hang tight. It's a long road. Senior Member Khali Posted January 5, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 5, 2012 Wow! That is an amazing hairline. What was the cost per graft ?
Regular Member shahswap Posted January 5, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted January 5, 2012 It was 40 INR / graft which is approx $0.8/graft. I am sharing the cost as doctor has it on his website and he doesn't bargain. Its fixed price.
Senior Member bonkerstonker Posted January 5, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 5, 2012 I think the posters above have not looked properly because 2600 grafts in the small area you have had them put into should give a great result imo. Bonkerstonker! http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1977 Update I'm now on 12200 Grafts, hair loss has been a thing of my past for years. Also I don't use minoxidil anymore I lost no hair coming off it. Reduced propecia to 1mg every other day. My surgeons were Dr Hasson x 4, Dr Wong x 2 Norton x1 I started losing my hair at 19 in 1999 I started using propecia and minoxidil in 2000 Had 7 hair transplants over 12200 grafts by way of strip but 700 were Fue From Norton in uk
Senior Member NEWHAIRPLEASE Posted January 5, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 5, 2012 Shahswap I have too agree with most of the posters here..I think you will certainly need another pass!!! However, you appear to have the benefit of a " skinny " balding area and what looks like a TON of donor hair!! Good luck!! Newhairplease!! Regular Member shahswap Posted January 6, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks for your replies. I feel its reasonably good density considering in how much area its applied. If you look closely in center, there is a patch of original hair and not transplanted hair. But, I know I will need atleast one more surgery to give more density to top and crown area and if I lose more of my original hair which is definately possible, I will need more grafts...Lets see how it looks in 6-9 months after transplanted hair grows and also I am taking medication for first time, so will see what it does to my original hair which are damaged.
