Scottish guy, Nice job...10 weeks off! I don't know to break this to you....but you will be quite abnormal for the next few months, probably 6-8 months. There isn't much you can do. This is the sacrifice you will have to do, in order to get back your hair. Best advice is to cut down your hair (half inch)before the operation to make it less conspicous.

Yomommyz, You seem to be frustating yourself too much. Go on minoxidil and finasteride and stay on it for the rest of your life. You will get sheds as you body deals with the drug. There is no such thing as waiting 6 months, 12 months etc. You're in this for life.

Firstly, we need to establish if your hairloss is from MPB. If it is so then you have to begin medication, watching for negative side effects. Hairloss due to psychological stress, or trauma/shock inflicted on your scalp from caustic hairstyling chemicals is another matter. Retardation is slowing down or deccelaration.

My understanding is that full cosmetic result can be as far as 15 months and not necessarily 12 months. I don't know what Dr. Alexander told you about the growth period. But I understand how you feel, and like you said, the game is not over yet. Keep hope!

The effects of zinc sulphate and azelaic acid on 5?±-reductase activity in human skin were studied using an in vitro assay with 1,2[3H]-testosterone as substrate. When added at concentrations of 3 or 9 mmol/1, zinc was a potent inhibitor of 5?±-reductase activity. At high concentrations, zinc could completely inhibit the enzyme activity. Azelaic acid was also a potent inhibitor of 5?±-reductase; inhibition was detectable at concentrations as low as 0.2 mmol/l and was complete at 3 mmol/l. An additive effect of the two inhibitors was observed. Vitamin B6 potentiated the inhibitory effect of zinc, but not of azelaic acid, suggesting that two different mechanisms are involved. When the three substances were added together at very low concentrations which had been shown to be ineffective alone, 90% inhibition of 5?±-reductase activity was obtained. If this inhibition is confirmed in vivo, zinc sulphate combined with azelaic acid could be an effective agent in the treatment of androgen related pathology of human skin.

Unless you have had a transplant, in which case the pimples are due to hair growth. In itself minoxidil can irritate the scalp by drying it out. This is due to the alcohol in the product. You can soothe the area with folligen or some other such product.

No. Once to start to notice the effects of MPB, start on Finasteride. Start on minoxidil also. Make sure your hairloss is due to MPB.

From my limited understanding, these are the facts: 1. All scars stretch, but do fade, with time; there is a difference. 2. The propensity for stretching occurs just above the ears. 3. The propensity for stretching occurs depending on the region where the donor tissue is extracted. Scars below the occiptial bump stretch more (some one correct me if I am wrong) 4. Scars can stretch at any time, and stretching can occur up to a year after the surgery. 5. The underlying factor that increases the likelihood of a scar stretching is the tension in closing the donor excision. 6. Time is the only healer, and no type/amount of topical preparation can reduce the appearance of a scar. (BTW, there is a new treatment, that is in its experimental stages for reducing the appearance of a scar)

You have to contact your doctor immediately. They can give you a better opinion. I don't think one can tell if a hair follicle is dead by just looking at the surface. The death of a hair follicle involves fibrosis (scarring) which is something that needs to be determined under a microscope, or 10X magnification. Other posters will give you their recommendations.
