  1. wanthairs: yeah, I know. this has always been my biggest concern. donor scar? big fucking deal. but, if Im left with some hair on top and a moat of skin around it, yeah that worries me. Why doesn't anyone talk about this more? Im not saying everyone will face this scenario, but how do we know who will?....
  2. I recently posted a topic regarding the safe zone not being safe. I got one reply in which someone said that after their ht they lost more donor hair all the way past the scar in the back and down to the scar on the sides. This has ALWAYS been my biggest worry regarding ht. Why doesn't anyone discuss this risk? Everyone discusses their concern regarding scarring, but to me this is BY FAR the worst case scenario. One could end up with a moat of skin wrapping around their head with some transplanted hair remaining on top and some hair on the sides and back. Not a natural result to say the least. I have two basic questions: (i) does anyone know what NW level one would have to ultimately become to lose the hair most doctors consider the safe zone? (ii) does ANYONE have anymore information regarding this topic? *Im very suprised to not hear anyone else (that I have read) discussing this topic. this is by far the worst case scenario regarding ht's and in addition, I dont see how any doctor can be certain that any of their patients will not end up in this scenario in the future as hairloss is unpredictible...Any thoughts?

  4. BeHappy: No shit!!! Thanks for your post. Im really sorry to hear about this. Could you do me a favor and adress the following, as I have NEVER heard anyone discuss this and would greatly appreciate your input: (i) when was your first and last ht? (ii) how old are you and at what age did your balding pattern extend beyond the so called safe zone? (iii) whose your doc? (iv) were you thinning in the safe zone or show any signs of becoming a NW6-7 prior to the age of 30? (v) did you take any meds? This is something that has ALWAYS concerned me and I have NEVER heard anyone discuss this. I wish alot of people would get in on this thread because I think this would be the worst case scenario as far as ht's go. Everyone is always concerned about the scar, but this would be way worse.
  5. thanks guys. YS: how do docs perform a miniturization study? Im assuming the simply look at your hair under manification as they are trained to see which haris are miniturized.Have you had this done? H&W are a very reputable clinic, so do they do the miniturization study on all candidates prior to surgery? Bill, thanks but the link did not work.
  6. gfs: from my understanding shockloss is only going to occur when your native hairs have been transected, so if your really paranoid about it then yes you could avoid it altogether by simply not having the doc transplant within your native hairs. This is something Im paranoid about as well, as I dont want to lose my existing hair. But, some of the top coalition docs claim that permanent shockloss will only occur on hairs that are cosmetically insignificant (i.e. hairs that are in the latter stages of the miniturization process and would have fallen out within 6 months to a year regardless). Furthermore, this is why some docs want to shave your hair down, so in the event of transplanting hairs within native hairs they can more accuratelly view the angle of grwoth of the native hairs and thereby greatly minimize the chances of shockloss occuring. How old are you? I dont recall reading your age in any of your posts. Headnames: I dont think anyone calls the front part of your hairline a "cow lick" just simply the hairline. temples: the triangular points behind your eyebrows. hairline: hairline. crown=crown. *I think most docs and patients, from what Ive read, divide the head into thirds. The crown being the back third, the middle being one third, and the front being a third. I would assume that everyones head shape is different, so not every ones' head is going to be perfectly symetrical (i.e. one person might have a really large crown and could make up more than a third of his head). But, regarldess this is how I have heard it being chopped up. hows sydney? I heard the girls are really friendly.
  7. youngsuccess: thanks. your the ONLY person who responded. Maybe I will post a picture later. I have tried checking it out with a vanity mirror, but the lighting in my bathroom is VERY bright (almost flroescent). So, I guess Im hoping that is making it appear more thin. I sent Jotronic some pics for a consult. But I dont know how they can give you a resonable assesment and recomendation without seeing you in person. They say it works out for 75% of their patients, so maybe Im wrong. the whirl pattern, tiny bald spot thing: yeah thats EXACTLY how mine looks. But, in the pictures with the flash it makes it appear REALLY thin all over the crown. Does the flash tend to over exaggerate this? Thanks.
  8. Im sorry I missed it especially with the docs there. Like mrknd said..."is there a transcript?"would love to read it.
  9. pushing40: yeah I havent had as much hair as you have now since I was like 15! You lucky bastard. I hope if I go through with this I end up with nearly as good results as you.
  10. thats great man. Who was your doc? it sounds like the scar healed perfectly. how short can you go without exposing the scar?
  11. from my understanding, virtually all coalition docs have a history of very high yield. As far as the percentage goes I dont know, I think Ive read Bill comment on this somewhere, but this is something that has always bewildered me. I mean, come on, NOONE is counting the individual grafts after they grow in. Furhter more on the same token, how can docs report virtually no shockloss? In reality how does anyone know if what they are growing in is the new transplanted hair or their old hair? I would really like some guys to weigh in on this (especially the shockloss bit) because this is something that Ive always wondered.
  12. I took some pics today (all with the flash on) to send out for an online consult. Before I took the pictures I didn't think I really had ANY loss in my crown, but in the picture it looks really thinning. Does the flash REALLY exagerate this, because its making me worried. I feel the back of my head all the time and it feels really thick. Its hard for me to check it out myself.

  14. Rikky, Bibarz, and Justgrow: who performed your surgeries?
  15. Sanjeev, how old are you? Its hard to tell how much loss you have, because you have great coverage with the lenght you are wering your hair. Regardless, I wouldn't know how many grafts you would need anyway. Sorry, Im sure some of the other guys on here will comment.
  16. guyfromsydney: you crack me up. Im just like you, I dont want to have to book my appointment and wait months. Shit, Ill probably be stressing every day over it. I want the doc to come over to my house, have a few beers, draw on my head (maybe him and the techs can play tick tack toe on my head) then put as many hairs on top of my head as possible. No seriously though,Im with you, if I go through with this I would HATE to have to wait months stressing it.
  17. is this really going to be ready anytime in the near future? I only skimmed through that link, but from the tone and content I would say its primarily a sales pitch to investors. Maybe their looking for some heavy hitters to get them off the ground. hair cloning would be great, but Im not going to hold my breath.
  18. oblivioun: man sorry to hear about your experience. I would go to a coalition doc for a free consult and see what they say. Not only can it not hurt, but I bet they can do a fantastic job at fixing you up. But as far as your life goes (Im no psychologist but this is just how I see it): by withdrawing and staying in, your probably focusing on the problem, making it your entire obsession and thereby making it probably a thousand times worse in your head than what everyone else thinks. Maybe the pics dont tell the whole story, but from what I see if you wore your hair down in the front and grew out the back to cover the scar, I bet no one would even notice. Your too young to withdaw, especially from your own family.
  19. I heard the laser comb is a bunch of bull shit, and I read (although I dont know if its true) that some guy paid 4K for one!!! Thats nuts! Ive never tried meds, with the exception of rogaine which I just started and have little or no expectations with it. Alot of guys say they get great results from propecia as far as halting loss, but Ive never trid it. Im considering a hair transplant as it is the only thing that (I believe) will significantly alter ones' appearance and is permanent. I think most docs want to wait until the age of 25 before doing surgery though. ..."deploying to the Horn of Africa"...god, you have a much more colorful life than mine. Im watching James Bond tie up some octopussy in HD and eating soggy fries from Mceedees on my couch...oh well, you and bond get to have all the fun.
  20. ...this has been a good read. NN: well, I guess we just differ in opinion. You are right that hairloss can be very slow. I remember looking at my thinning top about eight and a half years ago thinking I would be totally bald in two years. While it has thinned out significantly more and slightly more recession Im still not bald. But I know these hairs cant last forever and they continue to shrinken with less and less of them growing. So, in the end we just differ in opinion though.
  21. Looks great, especially at only 5 months. Youll look amazing in another 5. You make me want to jump on a plane to Canada tonight! Nervous Nelly: your perfectly entitled to your opinion, but I completelly disagree with it and do not understand your take on this. I have read a couple of other guys respond similarily about toj and other patients, so heres my take on it and Id like to hear your responses. His pre-op pics show such few and cosmetically insignificant hairs that he could not even attempt to style it (no offense toj) and they will certainly be non-existent in the future. In addition, wasn't this his first procedure? That means, from my understadnign, that hes' a virgin scalp and has the best potential for getting the most amount of grafts possible on this first surgery. The little hair he did have will surely eventually fall out. Why not take the absolute most possible grafts now and (possibly) spare him a few more years under the knife? Maybe he would have looked decent with less, but if one can look fantastic then, why not? I havent had a ht yet and currently have quite good coverage, yet this would surely be my line of attack as I know that the hairs I do have are miniaturizing and will be lost one day. Maybe its just a difference of opinion, but when I go for my first round under the knife (or blade rather) Im going to try and get as many grafts as possible. When you factor in all of the variables into the equation: downtime (I know Im going to look like shit and more bald than ever for the first few months after surgery), native hairs will eventually be lost, transplanted hairs will remain (hopefully) for life, the desire for as MANY hairs as possible on the top of your head; then for alot of guys the cash issue is insignificant and even superfluous. Especially if taking more now means sparing someone, if even for only a few years, from having to go through the whole experience and down time again. Maybe some guys, such as yourself, just want a fair amount of coverage on top. While others, such as myself and I assume Toj, want as much hair on the top of our heads we can get! just my thoughts.
  22. yeah I just hope Im not totally bald by then...cheering for all the other guys who get to keep all of their hair. That would suck! ..."you guys are so lucky you get to keep all your hair" then they can rub the top of my head and feel sorry for me.
