  1. SJD, Look Im not trying to be a buzz kill, but this comment is exactly why you SHOULD NOT have a HT procedure. Im really not trying to sound like a know it all I promise. I am only trying to telling you that until new technologies come down the line you will not be able to achieve what you are looking for. hairthere, Sorry but the "island effect" is when someone has hair on the top but is receeding on the sides and the back leaving what appears as a island surround by water. Hope you can visualize this. This is what SJD's potential is if he decides to have a HT.
  2. hairthere, Did you miss the fact that he is 25 years old? That coupled with the fact that he is already a NW6 is the reason he is not a good candidate. What would you say if SJD came back here 5 years from now having had 7000 grafts done but instead of being bald on top now he just has the "ISLAND EFFECT" ? Would this look natural?
  3. Considering where this gentleman was at before i think this is a great result. Nice and natural!
  4. I agree!! I especially like that the hairline was not lowered to much. It suits this gentlemans face well.
  5. Yes! The older we get the less women focus on hair loss. Unfortunatly younger women are more concerned with that. However older women want you to have money, a good job, a sense of responsiblilty, do your share of the house work, pick up the kids from school, and on and on and on!!! So who is worse!! LOL
  6. I am having a hard time with the fact that any one is suggesting anything but shaving his head. This community is here to support, teach and learn from eachothers successes and mistakes. SJD it WOULD with out a doubt be a mistake for you to have a HT right now. I know this is not what you want to hear but its the truth. You will never have the head of hair you are looking for with todays technologies. However like I said before do to the fact you are so young, you have time on your side and advancements in technology for hair loss is something people are vigerously working on. My intent is not to shoot down anyone elses opinions or your hopes, but to call it as I see it and have seen it before. I truly hope for yours "as well as my" sake something big is just around the corner in hair loss technology. Until then I would stand fast!
  7. I had posted a comment on this thread last week, but it appears to have been removed.
  8. SJD, NO HAIR TRANSPLANT!!! Dont make that mistake. You are so young and your hairloss is so advanced that you are destined to be a NW7 or greater. The good thing is that you are 25 and new advancements in hair loss are on the horizen which should benefit you greatly, but until there is solid evidence that these advancements are present you would be doing yourself a diservice by getting a HT. Shave your head, start on minox and finesteride and wait it out. Dont make the mistake so many of us did before you! It seems you have a nicely shaped head so shaving should be your 1ST OPTION right now!!!!
  9. Ask the dealerships how cash for clunkers is working out. You know the ones that are still having a hard time getting thier money from the government. And oh ya I re-read my post and I cant find where I said I wanted to keep pumping money into Iraq??? Im not an elephant or a donkey so I have no agenda or preferance. I think both parties do an aweful job running this country. They are too concerned with shitting on eachother and ignore the wishes of the american people. If a republicans in office we wish a democrat was and vice/versa. BTW when did this become a political forum?
  10. Great question, I bet it all depends on how good or bad the scar is. The pics I've seen are ones where it looks like they traumatize the skin "poke holes" to apply the product.
  11. LOL... I do agree with you for the most part but saying the government is spending money on us is like saying my 1 year old kid bought me a christmas present. Sure the tag might say it's from him but I ultimately paid for it. BTW how'd the cash for clunkers work out?
  12. You wouldnt be saying that if you were one of the ones with an aweful scar! We need to give it some time. They are erring on the side of caution because they need to do some more research. Knowing that Dr. Cooley is one of the pioneers of HM research Im sure he hasnt released info to the public every time he thinks he's on to something. I believe that because this info has become public knowledge that they may really feel they have something here.
  13. Great news!!!With 2 big name docs leading the way with this technology I certainly feel more confident that hair cloning is only a short time away. Not to mention it sounds as though this may be beneficial for scars as well. It would be nice for Dr. Cooley to make an appearance here and add some more input.
  14. I agree with you Trican. I have also seen some good reults with the permanant makeup tattoo's. The only thing that concerns me is that tattoo's fade over time "even permanant makeup" and just because you tattoo the same color pigmintation into the scar doesnt make it less noticable. Now if you do this along with fue into the scar than I think you can hide it very well.
  15. I am a diffuse thinner and I can attest to what ScottishGuy says. You do have a higher chance of shock loss if you are transplanting between native hair, but some doctors here have had alot of success transplanting into diffuse thinners. As a diffuse thinner however your chances of becoming a NW6 or 7 can be higher so keep that in mind when thinking about a HT.
  16. I have been reading alot about permanant makeup tatooing, where they match the pigmintation of your skin with dye and then tattoo it into the scar. I've been impressed particularly with one doctor/artist who seems to have quite a bit of success with this and has even been featured on Fox,ABC etc... for the work she has done. This may be a viable option along with scar revision and fue into the scar to make the scar as unnoticable as possible.
  17. Hi biger_beter! Welcome to the forum!! Im going to give you the only advice that you should heed at this point and that is to get on propecia and minoxidil. At 19 you should NOT consider a HT and anyone who says you should is just plain crazy. If you have seen a doctor for a consultation and he is willing to perform this procedure on you he should have his license revoked. As far as the question of "can you shed that much in 6 months", I would say absolutely! I did! When I went thru a divorce several years ago I lost about 30% of the hair on the top of my head in a matter of 4 months due to the stress I was under. Try to relax and like I said get on Propecia and minoxidil and ride it out. Thats about all you can do. BTW, You still have a great head of hair so doing as I recommend will help you keep it. Good luck
  18. I cant answer for you but I was in your place several years ago. Having to make a decision whether to have a HT or not. I made the decision to have it and have regretted it every day since. Keep in mind though that I went to bosley. I am now in the process of trying to make the scar look as nice as possible. I believe at this point that HT's can not offer me what I am truly after "a full head of hair", so until there is a cure "if ever" I will not consider another HT. I know that there are alot of others here that will disagree with my opinion but thats what makes everyone different. I would say to you that if your hair bothers you try shaving it down or try another style before making this HUGE decision. If you still cant live with it than do alot of research and choose a doctor based on patient results, patient recommendations and definatly dont choose based on location or cost. Good luck!!!
  19. Mattj, What does this have to do with anything? Is this a sign of a future NW pattern? I also have thinning in the same spot so I'd be interested in your answer to this question. Thanks!!
  20. I am more selfconcious about the scar now than my lack of hair. I wish I had thought and read a little more before rushing into a HT. Now I shave my head and only think about the scar.
  21. So lets get this straight. It sounds to me like you are making fun of balding guys for shaving thier heads to hide the fact that they are going bald right? Well, what does it say for you that you had a HT to try to hide the fact that you are going bald? This thread makes no sense at all and you contradict yourself by making fun of people for trying to hide something. Are you really hearing what you are saying here?
  22. No explanation and no response to the questions! Just another post. Before you can be reputable you have to atleast entertain the questions Talzi.
