  1. Rhodeman Who did you have your procedure with in RI. Thanks TMAN
  2. It has been a long time since I have posted on the website, having observed and shared with our friends up her in New England!!!! The comparison outlined here is a double edged sword, yes, medical research has indicated finasteride may reduce prostate cancer. At the same time finasteride may mask the results from a PSA test, according to my physician reducing the PSA level test result by up to 50%. The bottom line it is good and bad, go for a complete workup from your primary doc and urologist. TMAN
  3. Hairworthy Did that include tax and did you get the airline reimbursement/hotel room also. Thanks
  4. Well this is certainly a 'lively discussion'. I think it is important to realize that this forum while providing an great benefit to the HT community through education also is not perfect as with any forum like this. There are several docs part of the 'coalition' that are wonderful, ethical, perform great things and do offer mega sessions, which I personally think is an important option to have!!!! I applaude Pat for this forum and all the contributions to educating and supporting people looking for HT's. I also caution people as there are physicians in the 'coalition' that have had less than favorable reviews about wide scars, low growth rate, past history with other clinics that butchered people etc, nothing is perfect. You need to be your own best advocate, follow the advice of this forum and research, research, research!!! As usual just my opinion.
  5. There is a lot of positive feedback about Dr. Cooley and many others on this and other sites. The only issue that comes up with us of the NW5-6-7 world is the amount of ultimate work that is needed (4-6000 FU's) and wanting to get them done in one sitting may be of importance. If this is the case make sure you confirm the maximum that a doc has performed many times and check them out. Good Luck TMAN
  6. Welcome to the forums, I agree you need to have this evaluated by a dermatalogist. A friend of mine recently had an area that he was born with diagnosed as stage 4 melanoma, in case you are not familiar with a stage 4 check out the web, not great. TMAN
  7. Ifloss Welcome to the forums, are you on any meds? It appears you are at a level of NW6/7. Look at the patient gallery here to see the results from similar cases. Also look at some of the patients of H/W, Feller and others who can do large sessions in a single sitting to maximize you results and preserve your donor area. Good Luck TMAN
  8. Mike I also started losing my hair at a young age 21, I noticed it however life went on. The facts are the facts you can try to slow it with the meds, and perhaps some of the hollistic methods. I waited until 40 to get my HT, remember you will still make a living, in my case a very good one, have relationships, as many as you want, enjoy life and get older. You have to make a choice at this point, freak and let it rule your life or accept, attempt to control and live life! Eventually you may elect to get a HT! Good Luck HT
  9. I am sitting here reading this, I really do not post a lot anymore however saw this topic, which has been one of hot discussion to say the least over the last year. I would like to get a little scientific about this for a moment: 1. Dr. Bernstein & Rassmans book 'The Patients guide to Hair Restoration' which I have found to be an excellent resource quotes on page74 'These naturally occuring groups (called follicular units (FU)) have a relatively constant density in the scalp of 100FU/cm 2) 2. Qwert quotes '1.8cm to 2.4 cm wide by 35 cm long', so if we average at 2cm x 35 cm long we have 70 cm, 70 cm x 100FU/cm 2 = 7000 FU's. My doc put in 2154 with my procedure which as veterans of this site know has made me very happy. We have plenty of documented photographic evidence of mega sessions by H/W as well as others which show marvelous results. If there is such a question I am sure H/W or any other reputable group (Feller, Rose, Keene, Distefano, Shapiro etc.) would allow other physicians to view the surgery and prep for verification. I personally applaude Qwert's results and wish him the best, cannot wait to see the progress over time. As usual this is just my opinion. TMAN
  10. You have to be very careful about this most would discuss the safe zone being below the ear line in the back of the head to just above the ear on the side of the head. It is important to pay attention to the HT loss pattern in your family, there are several cases of Class VII hair loss cases that show the safe zone out of what is traditionally thought of zone. I would suggest you take your family history to several reputable HT docs and get their opinions. Good Luck TMAN
  11. KJP This is very possible. I would suggest you talk with Dr. Bernstein out of NY as he is a highly qualified HT doc who has written extensively about this subject, prepare to open your wallet for this work. TMAN
  12. Hi Outthere Understand that Propecia and Proscar are the exact same medication (Finasteride) in different strengths. Propecia is 1mg of Finasteride and Proscar is 5mg, so taking 1/4 of a Proscar is 1.25 mg vs. 1mg in a single Propecia tablet. You can never cut a Proscar exactly into 1/4's however many of us HT clients do this as Proscar is generally covered by insurance for treatment of an enlarged Prostate gland and Propecia is specifically for hairloss. TMAN
  13. Eric 123 How has everything turned out from your last transplant, sounds like you need some minor touch up. I continue to be happy with my results now 18months later. TMAN
  14. Terry Welcome to the forums with a lot of happy educated HT recipients. I also had a great experience with Dr. D, straight forward and delivered on what he said he would. If you go to NEW on the website toolbar, drop down menu of Photo Album and follow the instructions.
  15. Welcome to the forums, I am glad you found the site it will assist greatly in your search. I had my procedure done with Dr. Distefano in Feb 04 who has surgical offices in Rocky Hill, Worcester and RI. If you search on my name you will find the results of my procedure, I am very happy with the outcome. If you need more information send me an email. TMAN Full Time Patient and part time consultant for Dr. Distefano
  16. Terry Welcome to the forums, there are several of us that have gone to Dr. Distefano with great results. Search on my name and Hair Hope. I had 2140 grafts in Feb 04 with strong results, can you post pics of your procedure!! The doc recently asked me to join the team as a part time consultant to showcase his work, that is how happy I am. He also tells me he is using scopes so cannot really address your question. Good Luck TMAN Full time patient and part time consultant Dr. Distefano.
  17. Mahair I have followed your posts, what an experience. I met with MHR/Steve prior to picking Distefano, wow a doc and consultant that would be so difficult!! The clinic does do all Follicular Units for the clients, as I have a full time career this is more of a hobby for me so relaying accurate information and more importantly letting patients see the work I had done is the most important factor. TMAN
  18. As many of you know I had a HT with Dr. Distefano in Feb 04, my results in my opinion have been what I wanted to achieve. The doc asked me to join his team partime as an example of the results the clinic can provide to clients so here we are. The doc is planning some upcoming open houses in the Newton MA, Worcester MA and the RI locations to review individual cases as well as see examples of the work he has done over the last 10 years. If anyone is interested in seeing the results and having a consult email me for the dates. TMAN ------------------------- You never know until you try 2140 Follicular Units Feb 04 Dr. Distefano, effective May 05 Full Time Patient Part Time Consultant

  20. Welcome to the forums Zennism, there are several docs that do strong repair on scars and bad HT's. My doc Distefano (Boston) has done this for years as well as Bernstein in NY/NJ. Good Luck TMAN
  21. Robert You did not finish the story, what happened to that little female!!! TMAN
  22. Yes Peter it may not have worked but I bet you had a blast helping her apply it!!!!
  23. Scarcrow If your credit is good you must get the offers in the mail with special intro offers on credit cards for like 0 or low interest rates for 1 or 2 years. Most clinics will take credit cards so you can get a no or low interest loan by using one of these, make sure you make payments on time or the interest rate goes into the double digits. Good luck. TMAN
  24. Lightning1 Congratulations you have joined the ranks of the previously follicely challenged!!!! We would like to get the details of your procedure, amount of grafts, NWlevel, length of surgery etc. Dr. Rassman and Bernstein have provided an enormous amount of published material on this subject and appear to be among the most comprehensive of docs!!! Welcome to the club, we need pics!! TMAN
