  1. African americans are prone to hypertrophic scarring. It causes the scar to be raised and quite dark and usually quite wide....The gentelman you saw probably had other body scars that would look the same. If you want to know how your scar would look, check other scars on your body to see how they heal....Hope this helps. Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  2. Sometimes, it's those slight im-perfections that make a HT more natural looking...Mother nature is not perfect, hairlines don't grow perfectly, look at anybody who dosn't have a HT, if you look at their hairlines, you will find "stray" hairs, wiery hairs, some forward hairs, cowlicks, etc.,...That's what a HT surgeon tries to mimic...No dis-respect B, bit I don't think you understand this... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  3. The hairline, along with the top of the head naturally grow forward....not back...as you get to the temples, they slowly angle to the side and down...going towards the crown the grow back..Guys who have had hair flaps, hair lifts and scalp reductions can attest to this, because they can never have a natural growth angle...I think the hairs that are pointing down are the was that are done right B, it's the ones that point "up" that are wrong. If I understand you correctly... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  4. You need to give it more time....18-24 months...Yes, that long...Hair can be quite tricky...Don't rush into another HT, your still very young...and quitting the Fin. didn't help you much either...Be patient you look o.k.... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  5. Sorry guys, but I have to agree with LMS...Being the recipient of 2 HT myself,(happy with the results so far), I have to admit that it is not an exact science, and I think we all know that..Hair loss forums, like this one, need posters like LMS to help other un-informed newbies in making the right decision. To many young guys get bam boozled, from seeing "great" results on the net, but they don't realise that pictures can be deceiving, (along with some un-ethical clinics). Posters like LMS, help balance the scale....I'm not saying that HT's are "bad" or they don't "work", but they are deffinatly not for everyone!...Back to Dr. Rahal. I have met him and talked with him, I have seen some of his patient's, ( without Dr. R knowing about it), and I have to say he is quite a great person, ethical, passionate, and very professional...But if your in this buisiness long enough, you are bound to have some un-happy patient's...That's life...Sometimes it's because patients have high expectations, healing, or the Dr. just had a bad day...IT'S NOT AN EXACT SCIENCE.... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  6. Aside from the fact that the procedure might be noticable, you need to take as much time off as possible to allow for proper healing, and to regain your strenghth, remember, you could spend up to 10-12 hrs in a chair with thousnads of cuts being made to your scalp, plus all the meds, pain-killers, valium...The body and the mind can take quite a beating...Don't underestimate the post-op recovery...I think to many guys go for HT's without really nowing what there in for...Some get depressed, obbsesive, etc., ...Everyone always worries what they will look like on the "outside", when they should be thinking of what they will be like on the "inside"....My advice, if you can spend 20 or 30k on a HT, then you can afford to take at least one month off to recuperate.... 7. Leeson, miked, bash. Sorry to rain on your parade, I've been taking (methyl-sulfonyl-methane), MSM, for many years...It was prescribed by my physiotherapist for back pain, muscle spasms, etc., I was on anti-inflamatories at first, but they were hard on my stomach...So I was told to try MSM...It works well, but does "not" grow hair or nails faster...That's just a myth...I have asked many different Dr.'s,(gp,HT,surgeons, even the pharmasist), they all laughed at me when I mentioned that it was rumored it can help grow hair faster...Remember guys, never and I meen never take a drug or supplement for anything other then what it is ment for...Just MHO.. Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  8. May i ask bash, what are you taking MSM for? Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  9. I think that many posters don't give Dr. Bernstein the credit he deserves. He is really a pioneer in the field of HT. Being consevative, when it comes to HT that is, can sometimes be a blessing in disguise...Remember that Dr. B was doing HT when some of the other surgeons were still in school...I'm sure he has seen it all...the good the bad and the ugly....being consevative, always leaves the patient with many options further down the road! I think your HT n2S looks quite good for 6 months...and choosing Dr. B was a great choice... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  10. Hi chantal, when the new grafts begin to grow, it's almost like baby hair, sometimes wiery, corse, or frizzy...It might seem that the hair is growing in the wrong direction, but the hair just needs time to settle down, mature and take on the characteristics of the native hair...This can take 18-24 months....Sometimes the new hairs need to complete a full hair cycle, 3+ years before they can be completly managable....HT's are not like any other cosmetic surgery, you have to wait quite a bit of time to see the real results...Take care.. Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  11. Hi jeevan, you reaaly have to be patient with HT, after my first HT, 2 years ago, I looked exactly like you at 4 -6 months, you will only see the true results after 18 months or so...beleive me your doing just fine...Happy growing. Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  12. To much sun is never a good thing, (uv rays), but a few minutes a day is actually good for your new HT, it helps with healing and growth, but only a few minutes, maybe 10 min. or so, at least that is what the medical text books say. We are not that much different than plants or other animals for that matter..We need the sun to survive and grow... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  13. If your first HT was more than 2 years ago, than it's possible that your hair from the first HT can shed due to shock, just like you can have shock loss in the doner area...Some Dr's beleive that if you have a 2nd HT within 2 years of the first, you can avoid shock loss in the recipient area because the hair has already gone through its resting phase, hair follicles usually have a 2-3 year cycle...usually...Hope this helps Scorpian. Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  14. Welcome to the forum Ikki. I personally beleive that if you want to slow or even stop hairloss, Fin. is the way to go...Minox. is more for thickening existing hair, miniturised hair that is, it can also cause shedding in the beggining, and your ahir becomes dependant on it..I have been on Fin. for over 2 years and have been able to stop my hairloss + iI have had 2 HT's, never used minox...never... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  15. I had 87 staples, your right it didn't tickle... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  16. I have to agree with miked, rogain is a royal pain in the ass. You will probably get better results with the fin on it's own. I thinbk that hair can become dependant to minox over time, and it can cause some major shedding.... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  17. Kai eyo eimai ellinas, apo to kanada...Eyo piya sto Dr. Konior sto Chicago...Den ithela na xiriso tin kefali mou...lol...Ton Dr. Rahal ton xero poli kala, kai yamo tous yiatrous, kai o Dr. Hasson einai telios..Sou efhomai kali epitihia jbkg, kai se sena tsatsara...lol...Otan tha ftaxis sin Ottawa jbkg, eimai 45 lefta apo to Dr. Rahal, ama thelis tipota boithia, PM me...Yiasas.. Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  18. Looks really good baxter, but you have a ways to go, 6 months, (as you already know), is just the begining.....Happy growing buddy... Just a thought from the peanut gallery....
  19. Looks like you are right on track....Very natural looking...For me month 10-16 was when I did the most growing and maturing....Think of it as lawn seed....It always comes out thin and patchy but eventually it turns into a golf course...lol Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  20. I've said it before and I'll say it again...Dr. Rahal, and all the other Dr.'s aren't going anywhere....Take all the time you need...Once it's done, there is no turning back...I'm sure if you express your thoughts to Dr.R he will tell you the same thing. That's what he told me last year when I consulted with him...He saw I was very stressed and un-sure, he told me I should wait a year or so, even two, before making a decision. They are there to help you, not make your life more difficult...Dr. R always gets to thumbs up from me.... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  21. Sweeping the hair back will cause the hair to bend or bow at the hairline, therfore exposing the hair itself instead of the root or shaft, but only if its dry, think Elvis. If it is wet or gelled, it will stick to the head and expose the hairline and roots at the leading edge, if a HT isn't done properly, or donor hair is very course and dark, this could look extremely un-natural. Combing the hair forward or to the side, can look more natural and undetectable, but again not everyone is as educated on hair and it's "flaws" the way we are...lol...So it might just be a matter of prefrance for some...One man's garbage is another man's treasure... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  22. I also remember those threads on HLH. I could never understand why the hell would anyone, (except for repair patients),put PUBIC or BEARD hair on their heads. I couldn't even understand why any ethical and professional Dr. would do that!!! Some people are just ridiculous...D.'s and patients....Well said LMS, I agree 1000%..I'm in your corner on this one... Just a thought from the peanut gallery..
  23. I always read your answers to questions on other sites, (hlh, hairsite, bald truth, etc..) I must admit you are quite knowledgable about what's what when it comes to hairloss and HT in general, I think you are a great asset to this site...VERY HAPPY YOUR BACK...By the way, always tell it like it is...We should all stand up for what we beleive....good or bad... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  24. I don't know about coffee. but I would have to say that I smoked all through my 1st HT...Still smoking after 2nd HT....Honestly, it's the worst habit ever...I've tried to quit, but didn't succeed...It didn't affect yield or healing...Had this confirmed by two seperate HT surgeons, (Dr.Konior, Dr. Rahal), actually Dr. K was so surprised how quickly I was healing post HT #2...At 4 days he said I looked better than most of his patients at 10 days..Had almost no swelling, no redness, in rec. and donor...Altough I don't recommend ANYBODY smokes, before during or after a HT...I didn't make a difference for me... Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
  25. I would think that a 2nd HT woul grow in faster..The previous follicles, from HT 1, will increase blood supply to the area making for a better enviroment for the second...I just had my 2nd HT 3 weeks ago...Hope I'm right...lol...lol Just a thought from the peanut gallery...
