  1. i would recommend you shave it down a little and see how it looks...i shave down to a zero. i included a picture. i think i can pull off the look. its all about confidence my man. i think you are doing the right things. eat right, get into shape, focus on other things....especially personality. hairloss bothers all of us differently and i understand how you feel. i am only 24 years old. it sucks but we have to make the best of it.
  2. while your hairline looks fantastic...your scar can be detected from a mile away given the length of hair you are wearing...which is the primary reason why i am not undergoing surgery at the moment. the limitation of a HT is wearing short hair. that sucks. once the incision is made, you gave up shaving and any short hairstyles for life. not something i am willing to do at the moment.
  3. first off welcome to the forum. you will find tons of information on here regarding hairloss, so i recommend you start reading some threads... you have a very heart warming story. i am glad you are healthy and beat cancer...your health and well being is the most important part of life...dont forget that. let me try to offer some advice... this is a very unique case of hairloss so i am not sure what to even recommend...the problem you may encounter from people like me and doctors is the cause of your hairloss. is it due to MPB or is it due to chemo? It seems to me like it is chemo as your baldness is not the typical horseshoe pattern. so i am unsure if rogaine, finasteride, or nizoral shampoo would do you any good. maybe some veterans or doctors can chime in... what i would do if i were you, is see a recommended hair restoration doctor or dermatologist and see what they recommend...come up with a long term approach for your hairloss and situation. although this might not be what you want to hear...i dont think you will get to where you want to be with a HT at the moment. I think you should explore other avenues first with a doctor. They will know whats best for you. Do not, I repeat do not go to bosely...find an ethical doctor. there are tons on this forum. i wish you the best of luck...i will be sure to check this thread and track your progress from time to time...i hope things turn out for the best. let me know if you have any further questions. remember to keep your head up...its not the end of the world. all of us are suffering from hairloss. you arent alone...
  4. agreed...just take the med's as directed. it is proven clinically. unless of course you are experiencing side effects in which i would agree with your approach.
  5. it looks like you have thinning in the temples and front forelock areas...i would get on finasteride as I beleive it provides the best results. it prevents hairloss by blocking DHT. Its a proven medication that works. let me know if you have any questions.
  6. ^^^agreed...i have no side effects. see my results: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/158931-1-yr-fin-results-figure-i-would-share.html
  7. one correction to make...fue is not scarless. every surgery leaves a scar. the fue procedure leaves small white dots. not a linear scar.
  8. excellent post...dont rush anything. see how you respond to the drug, then decide your next move. personally im just a little hesitant because i know the lasting effect of the drug is temporary. ultimatly if i stopped using it or i grow immune i am in a bad position. i want to be 100% that I will not lose anymore hair. the worst thing that can happen is that a surgery is performed leaving you scarred and the drug stops working. then what?!?!? as some have already stated on this site. finasteride creates deception as to how badly a person will bald. this makes it difficult to decide when a HT is appropriate. i can look good for 5 years then start shedding like crazy in the midscalp and crown area. i cant shave because im scarred...so now what? no one knows what the future holds for hairloss from a surgical, genetic, and medical perspective. part of the reason why hairloss sucks. its so damn unpredictable. even with all of this said, i have a postive perspective on hairloss and it doesnt bother me as much as it used too. being happy is the ultimate goal. good luck hope everything works out!!!
  9. my recommendation is to take some outside under natural sunlight...also take some under harsh bathroom lighting...just my 0.02
  10. i pay $70 for my fin from walgreens...30 5mg pills which is 4 months worth. To me that is pretty reasonable seeing as it will only cost me 210 for a year. Cant complain.
  11. i continue to shave and will continue too until i decide to have a HT for my temple area...my hairline bothers me the most. even if im a little thinner in the crown area i can always use a concealer however the hairline cannot be helped. which is a major bummer.
  12. All I can say guys is it does work...give it ample time and don't give up. It's at least a 1 year commitment!!! Good luck!!'.
  13. thanks...i hope this is an inspirational thread for those of you contemplating finasteride...i will provide updated pictures in a couple months.
  14. 1. Head and Shoulders does not need to be fda approved. Its a mild shampoo that helps with dryness, flakes, and dandruff. It may help reduce your itchyness. It is ok to wash your hair with head and shoulders on the days you are not using nizoral. Head and shoulders should have no impact on hairloss 2. I would recommend if you are using minox daily that you wash your hair at least once a day. This will cleanse the skin, open pores, remove dirt and grease, etc... I think you are looking too far into your hair regiment. These small changes or subtlties in hair care will not have a major impact (i.e. use of head and shoulders, or washing with just water)...
  15. I experience itching like you in my thinning areas occasionally. Unfortunately there is no medication that will stop it. If you are using minoxidil sometimes that will be the cause for a dry itchy scalp. You may want to stop using it. In addition to nizoral shampoo you can also use head and shoulders as an everyday shampoo. It deprives a lot of itchiness and dryness. Give it a try.
  16. i think its my mind playing tricks...its interesting, i never miss my dose and i experience it almost daily for a few minutes. hmmm thanks for the feedback.
  17. some minor thinning...wouldnt go into panic mode. just monitor the situation. if it makes you feel better, talk to a derm or ht doc. see what they would suggest. might be a little premature for meds. good thing you caught it early. just keep an eye on it over the next few years.
  18. I take 1 mg if finasteride everyday... Here are my results as a refresher... http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/158931-1-yr-fin-results-figure-i-would-share.html
  19. I experience a tingling sensation in the receding area every now and then...it always bothers me that its the dht killing another hair follicle. anyone else experience this? note i am on finasteride and have had excellent results. only have been on the drug for a year.
  20. agreed 100%...i never analyzed anyone elses hair until i started losing my own. now i notice a huge number of guys are expereincing hairloss to some extent...eye opening experience.
  21. i think all we are saying is like i mentioned "nothing with hair ht's is a slam dunk. everyone should know that going in. to convince yourself otherwise is silly and ir-responsible. " so to try and respond responsibly to the threats we are bringing to your attentioned is ill advised...not trying to deter you from a HT just know that there are many unknowns. which is why i am holding off for now...hoping something better comes along.
  22. what happens when your body stops reacting to the finasteride and DHT resumes its effect on hairloss. i have read that finasteride loses its effect after 7-10 years. then what. your hair continues to be lost with no real solution in sight. you have built your hairline but the mid scalp and crown are bare. that would look a bit silly to me. who knows maybe you even progress to a NW 6 or 7 at which point a HT is not advisable. instead all your donor hair is in the front (awkward looking). nothing with hair ht's is a slam dunk. everyone should know that going in. to convince yourself otherwise is silly and ir-responsible.
  23. i just did a little research and read something dr cooley stated...i guess finasteride has a half life of 7-8 hours but the drug remains in the body for 5-7 days...he actually recommends taking the drug everyother day for older men and everyday for younger men...interesting... i have read varying reports...
  24. i would continue your regimen...i was in your same boat. check out my thread to see my results. i understand people react differently to the drug but you should give it at least a year. http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/158931-1-yr-fin-results-figure-i-would-share.html
