  1. Hi Cali, Thanks for the reply. Yeah I get that. I guess it's probably never been attempted, but I think it would be interesting to see if there was a difference in graft survival. Personally, I would be much more keen on having a linear scar on my chest than across my head... Interesting you say that about Dr Bhatti...do you feel he would be more receptive to the idea of using BHT from the beginning before exhausting the donor area? I'm 26 an probably around NW4 or 5, I'd much prefer to get work done now and get as thick coverage as possible whilst keeping the donor intact for later procedures which I will most likely require. I've actually approached him before for an online consult but had to postpone doing anything for financial reasons. He's definitely on my short list of surgeons I would consider though.
  2. [quote name=gilgamesh;2443354 When I turned my attention to surgical hair loss' date=' I was stunned by the lack of recent peer reviewed, blinded research comparing the two procedures. Especially considering the massive interest in it in the lay hair loss community. Viewing the proceedings of the ISHRS, it seems to be a common topic of discussion in the medical community as well. It is odd to me that a more recent study comparing the two procedures has not come out. And the only reason I can think is economic (or lack of economic) incentive. Let us continue forward, instead of looking at well designed webpages and frequency of internet posts as some sort of Litmus test for the legitimacy of a procedure. Let us return to the evidence, away from inductive reasoning, and back to basic science. It is a candle in the dark in this demon haunted world, and really -- it's the only chance we have at truth. Great post & very true. In the interest of science, I would gladly offer my own napper up as a case study in which FUE & FUT are used on separate areas & results subsequently compared as well as donor area fibrosis etc. Haven't seen many clinical trials looking at HT's though....
  3. Really interesting discussion. Ideally, I would like to go for FUT where half of the grafts were BHT (I have more chest hair than you have ever seen on a young guy, a lot of 2/3 hair grafts in there). I have asked several surgeons about this, however the general response has been to exhaust my donor area on the scalp first. I believe, however, that assuming the complete exhaustion of the donor area will be reached at some point anyway, that blending the two techniques will have a better long term result. My issue, I have blonde scalp hair, brown body hair and red/brown beard hair. If this was being implanted beside scalp grafts, would there be a noticeable colour difference? Also, out of curiosity perhaps Dr Bloxham or Cali can answer - Would FUT ever be considered for BHT, and would you expect it to have a higher graft yield/survival?
  4. This is when I genuinely wouldn't get on it. As we age, Testosterone decreases. Introducing something which is going to further eradicate male androgens at an age where they are already declining seems like a recipe for disaster. Slowly receding hair line and some thinning is nothing tragic, why not try a few lifestyle changes & natural things and see if it slows down or stops first? I disagree with the "JUMP ON FIN ASAP OR ELSE" approaches on this forum, especially where it concerns non aggressive MPB
  5. Dr Feller, You have argued your case well and have pretty much convinced me on what course of action I want to take, I am comparing different surgeons at the moment with a view to going for surgery in November of this year if possible. Originally, I had been set on getting FUE given quicker recovery times (I play a lot of sport) and given the lack of scar (I would like the option of shaving my head if baldness progresses - I am 25, NW5) I am very concerned about scar size, and would be interested to hear your input / reply to what Dr. Bhatti has posted above. How likely is a result like that? In your opinion/experience, how short can the hair be kept whilst still disguising the scar? From pre-op consultation/ photo consultation, are you able to estimate the scar length & predict how it will turn out in the end?
  6. Another post confirming that Voxman is the most entertaining guy on these forums by far. I really like the idea of occasionally being sober enough to fly to India to deal with hair loss, then getting back to substance abuse. I read Claptons autobiography once and he writes about a 10 month period where he had absolutely no idea what went on...Imagine getting a HT...getting wasted for 10 months...having a moment of clarity and realising you had hair again. Back to the subject - everyone reckons it is a risky strategy, I have asked and looked into it myself. Thing is, I love my sex life too much to have even the slightest decrease in the quality of it, so I will instead opt for a different approach to Fin. I believe it is probably the most effective way to slow or stop MPB, but I also believe that certain lifestyle changes can help.
  7. Hi mate, I am in the exact same situation as you and also t roughly the same age, and have the exact same worries about taking propecia. I agree that you should take all the negative posts with a pinch of salt, but also the positive ones too. A few guys posting about its efficacy means nothing if you are one of the unlucky ones who gets side effects.. Was also at docs asking for it, doc was horrified and told me about a guy younger than me who he had prescribed it too who had just gone under plastic surgery to remove breasts, and was still unable to get any form of erection a year after stopping the drug. Scariest was, he wasn't on it long term apparently. What i'm saying with this is, really think about it and weigh up the pro's and con's, Maybe get DHT checked, and definitely look at alternatives first of all. If you still have a lot of hair, maybe a natural supplement like nettle leaf, PSO or SP could help. Like i said, i'm in the same situation and am also still considering propecia, but if it doesn't work the consequences are worse than baldness. (btw, my current htinking is getting a HT now without propecia relying on it looking okay for the next 5-10 years as by then there will be better meds to deal with hair loss, or i'll just shave it and deal with it. If you've faced this young, it's a huge deal, I think it's easier to deal with when older)
  8. Guys who are taking or have taken Finasteride - Did you check DHT levels before hand? I have recently spoken to my Dr. about going on it (he scared me out of it initially) but have had DHT tested now. Waiting on results, but if DHT is high (which I suspect based on ridiculous body hair and libido) then is it safe to take?
  9. Impressive! A huge improvement. Will the patient be seeking to undertake another procedure in the future to add further density? His hair characteristics are very similar to mine (thin, blonde, straight). Does anyone know of similar cases to this? I am trying to build an idea of what outcome I could eventually expect.
  10. Nope, and I won't be. Have been thinking on it a lot recently, and have read a lot of recent scientific studies in which very worrying side effects have been proven to exist, not just anecdotal forum reports. Was still considering it so spoke to my doc, he's a great guy and I trust him a lot, so was fairly surprised to see how agitated and massively anti propecia he was, which came down to the fact he has been treating a young guy with anti depressants and different t-boosters for the last 6 months after the guy (who is my age too) got seriously bad sides from propecia which he had prescribed him. He's just had plastic surgery to remove breast tissue and suffers from "significant, demasculating sexual sides" according to Dr. - Reason I'm going so descriptive is because I know what everyone will say -" you need to be on fin to save your hair etc etc etc." I think these arguments are null and void compared to what this guy is going through. Guard 4, hmm that'd be like 3-4 cm I guess. Obviously surgeon skill comes into play, would be great to hear from former Dr. Feller patient on their scar/ others who have undertaken FUT.
  11. Very impressive! Also in need of 4000 grafts and have a terrible time deciding between FUE and FUT. Unfortunately i'm in europe so Umar isn't an option, although i'm really impressed with this. We have very similar hair characteristics so enthused to see that a good result can be expected!
  12. Before reading this forum, I was definitely a victim of FUE myopia and hadn't once considered FUT. However, as a young guy in need of a large HT with fine, blonde hairs, several of the HT surgeons I have contacted have recommended going for FUT. Notably, these are surgeons who perform both techniques. None of the FUE surgeons (several of whom are on here) I approached said anything about fibrous scarring, less donor area etc, even when I mentioned that FUT had been recommended due to hair type. As it stands, I'd go for FUT at the moment, but I would love to hear a well informed or professional opinion on the following - 1) how short can one realistically have the hair to avoid scarring being noticeable? 2) How long following the procedure before one can lift weights & play a contact sport (rugby) 3) How would a 4000 graft scar look? Where would it be taken from, which shape, length etc. Is it even possible to answer these questions?
  13. food for thought...i eat at least 4 eggs a day when i'm training. Better start smashing back the Biotin!
  14. Don't know and don't care if it is you in the twitter account, but I'm still highly dubious about the efficacy of the product or of people pushing it so enthusiastically. Probably another rip off snake oil. And i'm sick of people who pull on others insecurities to make a few quid, and have no qualms about calling them out on it
  15. Have only ever used 2% but I have found it to reduce shedding a bit. Where I am ( Austria) it's prescription free...i'd expect that to be the case most places.
  16. Looks great! I was considering Dr Civas for a while but was put off by the fact he isn't a recommended surgeon on here. How much of the work did he carry out himself? Did he extract the hair and do the slits himself?
  17. Did the decision to go for FUE over FUSS come from the patient side or from yourself Dr. K? Was there any explicit reason FUE was chosen?
  18. Have been keeping up with Follicept for a while...slow progress and results but they seem to be confident things are working. What I like about it is that they are transparent and keep the public well updated through video and pics content which all looks very authentic. I trust it a lot more than TRX2 or this HR23+ bullsh*t which is purely marketing. Current stand, they hope to have it out by end of year in the US, charging a price similar to regaine (possibly lower, a lot of talk about production being very simple). It will be a gel product and registered as a cosmetic product in order to avoid clinical trials.
  19. Hahaha the guys latest tweet as well! Hilarious seeing someone who flogs HR23 referring to anything else as a ripoff! End of the day...don't buy a hair loss product from someone with no background in meds/pharma
  20. Sadly I think you will be right, it is going to probably be beyond what anyone here can afford and will remain so for a number of years, if not on a near permanent basis. People will always go bald, they will always be able to skim the top of the market and make the same money from the top 5% as they would with a cost strategy targeting the average HL sufferer. This is why I hate the pharma industry so much. Health and happiness should never be the subjects of cold transaction On the other hand of course, we the consumer, alongside the numerous HL surgeons and practitioners could use these forums to encourage HL sufferers to resist those treatments and force them to bring the cost down to a reasonable amount through boycotting doing it....in an ideal, utopian, completely unrealistic world of course.
  21. Can anyone update on this? Would be interested to find out what kind of results people have had in the longer term?
  22. The US army (god knows why) are apparently patenting a hair cloning method revolving around follicle neogenesis....?!
  23. Very disappointing...was just about to order some
  24. Common sense (and most HT Surgeons I have opened a dialogue with) is telling me to go FUT/FUSS for a first large procedure and ensure that my donor area is still intact enough for later procedures if needed. Financially, it makes more sense and in terms of growth, it makes more sense. But takes away the option of ever shaving my head when things progress (I'm 25 and not on fin) Irresponsible optimism is telling me to go for an FUE session, restore at least some kind of decent look for a few years and then either a) things progress but i'll be older and will just buzz it all, or b) there will be a permanent cure or something which will halt my HL progressing, enabling me to maybe get an FUE top up of fewer grafts. Currently require 3500-4000 grafts. Bloody tough decision.
  25. Had some really spam-like banners pop up on a website earlier so checked out the website...What an absolute load of crap. Basically a ridiculously expensive herbal supplement which probably wont work, or if it did, you could put together for a quarter of the price yourself. Bloody disgusted with these moron snake oil salesmen preying on peoples insecurities.
