if you ask 10 different people you might get 10 different answers, but to my way of thinking HT surgery is quite a dramatic step & not something I would do if I wasn't going to be on meds. it is traumatic when you wake up & begin seeing hair loss behind the transplants.

One of the biggest surprises for me since being a member of this forum has been the common practice of dense packing even a centimeter of recession on hairlines with anything up to 2000 grafts! To my way of thinking this kind of practice uses a massive % of total donor for such a small area (admittedly the most seen area). What happens if hairloss continues behind the transplant? I know most HT patients utilize DHT inhibitors but I don't think they work 100%. How many HT patients experience further loss behind the transplants and are then left with one hell of a problem down the track?

I don't wish to elaborate but I no longer feel comfortable with all of the glowing endorsements that I have written on this thread. When it comes to hair transplantation I think it is best if people investigate as much as they can, consult with several surgeons & form their own judgements/make their own decisions.

Your hair looks good to me. Good news that you are on Fin. If you look after it you should be ok for years imho.

Best to wait for Replicel/Sheisedo to offer an injectable stem cell cure now I reckon lol. Seems likely to be a lot less risk. Hopefully in 2018 - fingers, toes....everything crossed.

I had a tiny touch up of 31 grafts right on the front hairline. Within 3 months I suffered significant permanent shock loss, 3 inches away in the left temple region. Worse still, it was not miniaturized hair - I have no idea what happened despite several visits back to the surgeon & consults with others. Some have said to me that even the anaesthetic can knock hair out?

If you live in Melbourne, Australia have you considered consulting with Rhett Bosnich? A plastic surgeon in Adelaide recommended Rhett to me. I have met him and was quite impressed. Good luck

Pretty sure it can only improve what is already there... From what I have read, Acell + PRP is the best product.

Which Aussie docs did you visit & why have you ruled them out? Im going through the rounds now myself...

Huge issue. Huge! Would hope to hear from some Drs & senior members from the group in regards to this...

surely wayyy too early to be transplanting into that scalp based on the pics? id think a good chance meds could thicken that up really nicely?

Are you taking Fin or Dut? Fin has really thickened up my crown in the past 18 months. IMHO meds are a must for anybody that is concerned enough about their hair loss to go down the transplants route...

The FUT scars now can be quite immaculate in my opinion. If the Dr does a Trichophytic Closure the scar is so fine...I have had 2 FUT surgery's, wear my hair on a 3 guard and nobody ever comments. Using two mirrors I can see it, but only because I'm looking for it, but it is really fine and doesn't bother me in the slightest. My doc did do a good job with that, credit where credit is due. If you go to a good Dr you should have no probs with a FUT scar. Good luck....

Thankyou for replying Dr Bhatti. Yes, I have been taking finasteride medication since April 2014. The small procedure occurred in Mid February 2015 and I really noticed the shock loss at its worst in May 2015. I feel it has partially recovered and I am consulting with two different Australian Dr's in coming days for their opinion. I have seen many of your fantastic results on this website and am an admirer of your work. Again, thanks for taking an interest in my situation.

I guess it has improved from its worst in May 2015. The other photo's on this thread were taken in the past couple days.....this one was at its worst. Maybe I should keep giving it more time? Can shock loss sometimes take a long, long time to recover???

Funny you say it would look worse wet, I think it looks better wet as quite diffused when dry! Look I know it could be worse but I was always a receder & never had any evidence of thinning behind the transplants before. It is now quite diffused in the affected area & is really traumatic! I had thought the last touch up of only 30 grafts to even out the front of my hairline would mark the end of my hair loss journey but not to be.

i am now & caught like a rat in a trap. if I do nothing it will gnaw away at me everyday & if I do proceed I could end up in a worse scenario & embarking on a game of chasie across my scalp that only benefits the clinics. i think i have learnt how some dr's play the game in this kind of situation now. hence my recent post on small hair loss sufferers almost being at a disadvantage. i think all i can pray for now is an ethical dr or give up on it and take up meditation.

Hey guys, I'm consulting with a couple of surgeons in coming days to discuss a possible small HT to correct this perm shock loss incurred a year ago. This was caused by a tiny 30 graft procedure 2-3 inches away at the front of my hairline! Apart from this my hair loss had been stable for 10+ years and this was caused by hair greed on my part... Any thoughts on risk/reward & how many grafts I might need? It is just in the left temporal area, the right side is pretty good. It is nerve wracking given my past experiences with shock loss but doing nothing will just keep grating away at me.

Feel free to pull me up on this but please consider! If a Norwood 6 walks into a surgeons office both the Dr & The Patient know its going to be a big job & therefore big $$$$$. All being well if the Patient has gone to a competent Dr the result from this scenario should be all upside as long as the Patient has realistic expectations. Now consider someone that is really hurting from minor hairloss fronts up at a Dr's office. Trust me, the pain from minor hairloss can still be intense. The way I see it the Dr may not be interested because there isn't enough $$$ in the job, or worse still, the Dr performs unnecessary excessive work on the Patient that could lead to an increased chance of shock loss or accelerated permanent hair loss. I would hate to think that some Dr's perform surgery on a Patient with a good head of hair, but some hair loss and string them with future procedures in mind. I am sure the veterans of this site would know all too well that poor surgical techniques can lead to almost certain permanent hair loss. I would like to think that the majority of competent & ethical Dr's would charge a reasonable minimum fee but take every Patient's feelings seriously and undertake surgery with the intentions on the best outcome for the Patient. Or perhaps the person with minor hair loss just has to come to the conclusion that the risks outweigh the potential rewards? Obviously I have been hurt with something along these lines happening to me. It makes it very hard to not be skeptical, cynical & find trust in HT Dr's if you are suffering from minor hair loss. I think it is a real dilemma.

Can anyone add info to this phenomenon? I essentially have a good head of hair but suffered some degree of permanent shock in the left temporal region following a tiny HT in Feb 2015. The area of work was 2-3 inches away from where the perm shock loss has occurred. I think the best way I can describe it is that this area is now diffused with a degree of miniaturization. I have photo's posted on my thread *warning against frequent procedures*. I really want to get this fixed but terrified of further shock & embarking on a game of chasie across my scalp. I am not happy with how it is now but aware it could be much worse. What the hell do I do in this situation aside from asking a top doc?

Just wondering if anyone on this forum has tried Dr Prasad's hair regeneration? As I have posted, I have encountered some permanent shock loss in the left temporal region from a very small procedure approx 12 months ago. Think I'm too scared to undertake another transplant to repair it as more to risk than gain. My trichologist has examined my scalp under the microscope in the temporal region and all follicles are still there & open but many are empty. Wondering if my best bet is acell & prp or another light ht procedure & hope to hell I don't shock out again.... Any thoughts?
