  1. Interesting concept. L'Oreal working on 3D printed hair follicles that grow NEW strands | Daily Mail Online
  2. Asmed seem to be getting fantastic results atm. Hard to go past them imho....
  3. I had 500 BHT (beard hair) in Australia for strip scar repair. The scarring to the beard area is a non issue for me, virtually no scarring.
  4. looks like classic shock loss to me. if it is temporary expect to see some improvements between month 3-5. its really hard, ive been there! one reason i say that those of us that still have a lot of hair are almost at a disadvantage. small area's of hair loss can still hurt, but we carry the biggest risk with trying to address it. those that are significantly bald have almost blue sky upside (not much to lose). good luck.
  5. I have seen the good & bad. If a person has significant loss and goes with a great surgeon the results can be fantastic & a big boost to confidence/self esteem. If however the person has minimal loss & has perfectionist traits HT's can be dangerous. Small surgeries can lead to shock loss & a worse outcome, which lead to further surgeries & the person can find themselves on the merrygo'round.
  6. zhairz. how do you explain men that don't go bald then? there is still a reasonable % of older men with good native hair intact. i think it is a lot more logical that some men have androgen sensitive follicles and some don't. also the overwhelming majority of bald men retain the donor fringe & those hairs, when transplanted remain permanent.
  7. Dr Knudsen (Sydney) & Dr Bosnich (Melbourne) are both American board certified and I believe do very solid FUT work. The inventor of FUE also resides & works out of Sydney and I have had a procedure with him 6 weeks ago.
  8. Im going through it too atm (6 weeks post op). It does suck but from about the 3 month mark it should be worth it as long as we go with a very good surgeon. In the wrong hands permanent shock loss can occur & that is a nightmare. Surgeon selection is crucial - nothing can protect us from poor surgical technique.
  9. Im in Australia too. Have you investigated or consulted with any of our surgeons? Lots of Aussies (particularly on this forum) head overseas now which has surprised me given that i feel we have some good local surgeons.
  10. The problem with "touch ups" can be shock loss. If a "touch up" causes shock loss somewhere else you can end up chasing the bloody thing forever & it could turn into a nightmare scenario. Hoping to get some responses from surgeons and/or experienced posters on this.
  11. Would like to raise a question on the consensus of opinion in regards to HT touch ups. So you have had your procedure, 6+ months have passed and the new growth is coming through nicely but there is a small gap that is irritating. Some gaps may even be filled by as little as 30 or so grafts but is it considered safe in having this done? I myself have experienced significant permanent shock loss occur approx. 3 inches away from the area of work after having a tiny touch up of 30 grafts performed & therefore agonize over a situation like this. Similarly if a long time has passed since the last procedure & you notice some weakness or a gap appearing. At what point should a person take the plunge & proceed with further work? I think its a really relevant question for hair restoration and one that is rarely mentioned. Cheers.
  12. I have just finished reading this thread in its entirety. The results from the first surgery look fantastic! So good in fact that I am staggered that you even needed a 2nd surgery, let alone another 2490 grafts. The photographs of the final results of your first surgery give the appearance of a full head of hair but you then went for another 2490 grafts? I know you said you wanted a lower hairline and increased density in some perceived weak spots but I still find it hard to imagine how another 2490 grafts would have been fitted into that head of hair! Not taking anything away from the look of the results though, it looks amazing but I think 90% odd of people would have been happy after the first pass, let alone another largish surgery.
  13. Very impressive. I'm really surprised with how quickly your regrowth came through. I thought the new growth only began breaking through the skin at 3 months but judging by your photo's you had the beginnings of healthy regrowth at only 6 weeks & by 3 months were looking very good. You said you didn't have much shedding at all? Congracts, your procedure looks like it has worked great.
  14. I personally don't think the idea of "sweating in the sauna" is too good. I wouldn't do anything that is going to generate excess sweat of the scalp so soon post op. Just my opinion.
  15. He is very young to have had so much work done, but then again the loss was significant for such an age. The coverage looks very good.
  16. Yes. I have experienced temporary and permanent shock loss before! Interestingly on previous occasions the temporary shock loss hit me 2-3 weeks post op, whereas the permanent shock loss hit me approx. 3 months post op. No idea if this is common or of any relevance.
  17. It truly does suck doesn't it! That said, I cant be any more certain that my surgeon did a fantastic job! I watched every implant on a TV monitor & saw the quality of the grafts he was using. His attention to detail was amazing. I think for those of us that have considerable native hair left, shock loss is something that can't really be avoided completely, regardless of how good the surgeon's technique is.
  18. As a last resort, I believe a person can always fall back on the wig! If there is a scalp condition that prevents a normal hairpiece, even the pull over wigs these days can look very impressive. Put on in the morning, take off at night & get on with life.
  19. You keep going around and around in circles Sam. You NEED to look at the options, make a decision & implement it.
  20. Is it low self esteem to look after your teeth & visit the dentist? Is it low self esteem to go to the gym & exercise for a healthy body? Unfortunately with hair, for those of us that take pride in our appearance & want to look good, sometimes the only solution is surgery which many in the general public consider quite radical.
  21. Looks strong to me. I wouldn't be worried about that.
  22. If you go with a cheaper/lesser Dr & get a bad result - the saved $$$ will be the last thing on your mind. I hope you never experience the pain of a bad HT. Surgeon selection is crucial and the good ones cost $$$$$.
  23. IF you are going to consider BHT make sure you select your surgeon very carefully. As far as I know I think there are only a handful of surgeons in the world that have good success with this. I had a procedure a month ago with a surgeon that invented it & actually placed beard hair into my strip scar for repair. I know he has had good results with Norwood 6/7's so it is not impossible. It would be expensive however and you would have to be willing to travel.
