  1. It's not the norm, and you should schedule several consultations until you find the surgeon you connect with. I consulted with 6 top clinics before making my decision. I was a little disheartened after my first consultation because I felt like the rep I met with was a little too sales-y for my taste. Talk to Dr. Konior. He's incredibly responsive. Talk to Shapiro Medical Group. Talk to a few others. Patience is required. Good luck in your search.
  2. My recipient area was still pink 2+ months out. Thankfully, the kind of work I do allows for me to wear a hat. I'd contact your surgeon and see what he/she suggests to use on it. I've read on here of some patients using aloe gel, but you'll want to get your doc's okay first.
  3. I had to start wearing a hat 8 days post-op due to work. I wore it loosely, put Neosporin on the incision every morning after showering and let my donor hair cover the scar. I'm 5.5 months post-op now and my scar has healed nicely. My hairstylist can't find it.
  4. She said it was no big deal, and that her previous boyfriend had two HT procedures in Switzerland and needed a third. Which begs the question, are there any great HT docs in Switzerland? She also said she'd have cosmetic surgery if she ever needed it. About as good as it could go, I guess.
  5. I've told all my best friends, including some women, and a few people I work with. I'd rather have it out in the open and de-stigmatize it. Tomorrow is the big test when I have to tell a woman I've reconnected with after a year because we're going out of town together. At only 5 months out, I won't be able to hide it from her.
  6. I like the hairline height and think it's age appropriate. Did he tell you the height? Looks to be around 7.5cm.
  7. I'm between 5-6 months and recently thought I was at 70-80%, but I have been surprised by how much my density improves from one week to the next, so it's really hard to tell.
  8. This is a sick transformation. And at only 8 months. I hope Dr. Konior is prepared for the flood of new patients your case is going to bring him. Glad I got in when I did.
  9. Comparing hair restoration to plumbing, which requires no aesthetic or artistic skill, is way off base. Hair transplantation requires as much artistic skill as it does technical skill. And artistry is not something automatically acquired with time. Jotronic is right. There will always be a few standouts in any field that are separated by results, and in a field that requires artistic skill, that's what separates the good from the truly great.
  10. Really pulling for a stellar result for you, KD! Heal well.
  11. I'm a little more than 5 months post-op (FUT) and got my haircut today for the first time in a couple of months. My hairstylist couldn't find my scar no matter how hard he tried. So he cropped my hair pretty close. Still couldn't find it. Like Paulygon, shaving my head was never an option for me, so I was ultimately more concerned with results when it came to choosing my doctor. I think I chose one of the best when it comes to results and donor incisions. He could have harvested the hairs from my tuchus for all I care as long as he gave me a full, natural head of hair. As has been stated many times on here, both FUE and FUT have their place. I'm pro-great result, by whatever means it's accomplished. If the patient is happy in the end, that's all that matters. That said, I would be the first to educate someone on what to expect with FUT.
  12. Great choice of surgeons. Ron Shapiro was one of the three surgeons I narrowed my search down to. Looking forward to following your progress. Good luck and grow well.
  13. Depends if you're dating women in their 40s or in their 20s/30s when you're 40.
  14. Um, depends on the women you date. Women of all ages are attracted to a man who is confident. And if hair is part of that, it doesn't matter how old you are.
  15. Agreed. Especially when you consider that it was a complete reconstruction of the frontal third and hairline.
  16. That is staggering. Just keeps getting better. Really happy for you Matt.
  17. Here is a good discussion on here about hairline height: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/149969-hairline-height.html
  18. I have the straighter design - not by request, I just let the doctor do his thing. I have wondered if I should have a little more recession in the temples. What is the height of your hairline?
  19. I'm a little over 5 months out and to quote Morgan Freeman from Shawshank Redemption, "After a hair transplant, time can draw out like a blade." I added the hair transplant part.
  20. I've been taking Propecia (Fin) since 1997 and have had no sexual side effects. I've also conceived and had a healthy child in that time. The risk is minimal. Here's what Dr. Cooley (a recommended surgeon on here) recently said about it: I think Finasteride is safe and effective for most guys even when taken for many, many years. Is it perfect? No. A small number of guys will have side effects when taking it, and will decide to stop it. We may have much better medical/biologic/cell based treatments in the future, but for now, it is the most effective way to save your hair.
