  1. I read this once from a top HT surgeon: Hair is deliberately transplanted at lower than naturally-occurring densities and so we depend on some illusion to make it look fuller than it actually is. Transplanted hair will always look fuller when 2-3 inches long, dry, separated, and styled to layer like shingles on a roof. It will always look thinner when cut short, spiked up, parted through, wet or clumped with product.
  2. This is simply not true. I see a lot of stellar results - both FUT and FUE - posted on here after just one procedure.
  3. Isn't that what propels us all to do it in the first place? The money spent on meds and other products trying to halt its progress; the inordinate amount of time it takes trying to conceal your hair loss or style your hair to minimize it until you just give up and throw on a hat? Right now I totally get the consuming part. What I can't imagine yet is the relief you describe. Looking forward to it.
  4. That is an amazing hairline design. Every stage has shown significant improvement - even from 7 to 10 months. One for the record books.
  5. Ha ha, I've done the same thing - checked the post-op pics to make sure there were grafts there before they shed. Wishing you the same. Grow well.
  6. Takes a lot of faith and that's easy to lose at times. I still have some bare patches and wonder if they will fill in and whether the fuzz will thicken to become actual hair. One of my concerns coming into this was having a thin, 'see through' result that screamed HT. Hang in there, man.
  7. Agree. I'm at the 3 month mark and I am tired of hiding under a hat. While I've had noticeable growth - to the point where my daughters have said I'm looking fuzzy - it's hard for me to picture it fully grown in. And so of course I think what the hell did I do? I've found the experience to be a little isolating.
  8. I started using Rogaine 10 days post-op, then quit after using it for 10 days because I started shedding hair in my crown. It felt like one step forward, two steps back. I debated whether to start again around 3 months (I'm 11 weeks out) but have decided against it. I don't want to become dependent on it and my progress at this stage looks to be (more or less) on par with others who I have seen use it. I do use Propecia and have been since 1997 with no side effects. From my research, I have seen a lot of good results without the use of Rogaine. You just have to search the blogs. You'll find them. Here's one…he tried Rogaine a few months before his procedure and stopped for the same reason I did: http://www.hairlossexperiences.com/view_topic.php?id=2187&forum_id=3&page=1
  9. I've been wearing a loose-fitting adjustable ball cap since about 8 days post-op. As long as it's not coming into contact with the grafts I don't see the problem.
  10. No worries. I've done everything on my end to ensure a good outcome. Not much else I can do.
  11. I used Neosporin on my donor incision for about a week after my sutures were removed per my surgeon's post-op instructions. I am two-and-a-half months out and my hairstylist couldn't get over how barely detectable my scar was - and that was over a month ago.
  12. I'll be in South Africa next month as well and will be 3 months post-op. I planned on wearing a hat as it's for work. Here is a link on the recommended time to wait before exposing your recipient site to sun. Both Spencer Kobren and Dr. Feller weigh in: **outside link removed by moderator**
  13. My experience with Fin (Propecia) is that it initially halted my hair loss and seemed to actually thicken my hair a bit, then gradually the hair loss resumed, although at a much slower rate.
  14. I had no worries or concerns taking Propecia while my partner was pregnant. Neither did she.
  15. Styling it correctly is everything. I'm always suspect of a result if it doesn't show the hairline. And it's really difficult to tell with these single pics you post.
  16. When it fully grows out I would try it combed to the side so you layer or 'shingle' it. Here's something I read recently from a surgeon: Hair is deliberately transplanted at lower than naturally-occurring densities and so we depend on some illusion to make it look fuller than it actually is. Transplanted hair will always look fuller when 2-3 inches long, dry, separated, and styled to layer like shingles on a roof. It will always look thinner when cut short, spiked up, parted through, wet or clumped with product. The combed forward Caesar look is very ER-era George Clooney.
  17. Who was your surgeon Ropain? I don't see it on your profile. Same one for both procedures?
  18. Here's a sort of 'shingled' look - this patient was at 6 months when he took these photos but it's the general idea. Hair Restoration Journal for dude - 6 Months (addl)
  19. This is what I used before my HT. http://www.amazon.com/California-Hair-Play-Molding-Health/dp/B000FP7ZLM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390597675&sr=8-2&keywords=kms+hairplay It's light and with just the right amount it will 'thicken' up your hair. Too much and it will flatten it. As for style, when my HT surgeon first met me he said he was glad to see the way I styled my hair because it was pushed to the side and forward. It was a clever combover basically. You have to play with your hair, muss it up a bit so it layers up.
  20. Here is something I read recently from a surgeon - can't remember who: Hair is deliberately transplanted at lower than naturally-occurring densities and so we depend on some illusion to make it look fuller than it actually is. Transplanted hair will always look fuller when 2-3 inches long, dry, separated, and styled to layer like shingles on a roof. It will always look thinner when cut short, spiked up, parted through, wet or clumped with product.
  21. I'd put that at 35-40. Percent of men who will have noticeable hair loss by age 35 - 40% Some fun facts: Percent of hair loss sufferers who would spend their life savings to regain a full head of hair - 47% Percent of hair loss suffereres who said they would rather have more hair than money or friends - 60% Percent of hair loss suffereres who said they would give up sex if it meant they would get their hair back - 30% More hair loss statistics: Hair Loss Statistics | Statistic Brain
  22. Do you have any before pics? So has the dermatologist seen this kind of thing before? Did he seem to have experience with HTs? I imagine any kind of reassurance you get at this point will be of little comfort until it starts growing back. Hang in there.
  23. I'm 2 months out and I still wear a fairly loose fitting ball cap. You should be fine but I would consider wearing something that doesn't restrict or hinder blood flow.
